It was reported early this morning that protesters around Kings Square in Benin City, the capital city of Edo State have broken the walls of the headquarters of the Nigeria Correctional Centre (Nigeria prisons in Benin).


The protesters, after gaining entrance into the prison through the fence freed inmates in the prisons along Benin Sapele Road, near Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ office.

One of the prisoner who escaped from Edo prison this morning speaks. He hails the protesters for what they did. When asked by one of the protester if he was in prison too, he said "Yes, that he has been in the prison for 2 years now, that he gave inspector Dele money so that he will investigate him, but he chop the money without trying him and said he is on awaiting trial".

No he has freed himself with his words..How can somebody be in prison for 2 years with trial awaiting? Which court order him detained? I was against what Benin boys did but this guy has changed my mind..what sort of nonsense is going on in this country? Human right violation everywhere.

The Benin prison break was obviously planned by the GOVT to discredit the EndSARS movement & to inpose a nation wide curfew.
That Said if Boko Haram Terrorist Who murdered thousands can be freed and even sent to school Abroad then I won't loose sleep over this because over 50% of the inmates are innocent anyway & a few others have been awaiting trials for years.

I know a guy who has been in prison awaiting trial for 13 years. If you doubt, I'll arrange for you to meet the guy in prison. I came out on bail last month after 2 years of waiting without trial too. This country is due for formatting. No regards for human right in anyway.

Some of them don't even know the crime they are being accused of. That's how one guy spent 7years in prison after being arrested in his shop at onitsha main market. His family had no idea where he was for all those years and he didn't even know the crime he committed. It was when radio Sapiensia people went to visit people in prison that the guy gave them his address and told them to look for his family. They did and the guy was freed.
It turned out that someone who had issues with his father sent police to arrest the guy just so that his father will be hurt.
Many of them can't even say what crime they committed.
Besides, only the poor go to prison in Nigeria.

What is given them for food is so small and unhygienic that those who eat them take ill and most die for lack of medical care. Imagine demanding money before treating an inmate who is critically ill and unable to make contact with their families!
