No wonder countries like China do not allow social media in their country.

It can also be used as a tool to cause civil disobedient and unrest. They also do not allow unneccesary gatherings because "hoodlums" can quickly harjack it fueled by their international enemies.

We have been down this road before and it is unfortunate that we are threading same path and somehow expecting a different result. Old wounds are being reopened and it seems there is no end to this.

By the time people wake up from these destruction, the damage would have been extensive. Even those cheering it right now will reealize they could have explored other options at the end of the day.

China also has form of governance that is interested in the glory and prosperity of China. They also do not tolerate corruption within their government arms, it is punishable by death.

If restricting social media helps their economy, or nation, given their style of governance (communism mixed with some capitalist tendencies), then great! That's why they are a global power to reckon with now.

Please don't compare us with them abeg. Our government has always been a gathering of looters with no sense of patriotism to their nation. 60years later, we still don't have constant electricity, good roads, water and sound education is ruined.

If the government had listened

Would it have gotten to this?

You guys should lay the blame where it lies

The federal government

Ogun state attorney general has taken concrete steps

The govt of oyo state is also working hard
Cant the FG learn from them?
If this carnage is what will make the FG take us seriously next time

It's a steep price to pay
But I say its worth it

The Chinese government restricting info is because they are scared that what they have done would blow in their face

And this is happening with the complicity of the West

In due time
When the corporations are done with them
The CCP will be ousted

Mark it

Nobody likes what is going on

But actions/inaction have consequence
That is the truth

Look at what happened in America
You left tens of millions destitute
What were they expecting?

Yes but it must not be encouraged.

People need to start speaking vehemently against it.

The police should come out in full force to defend the livelihood of citizens.

Simple, can't cut my eye off because it scratches.

What will work at this point is a presidential address

When you have many poor people, and then add crime, injustice, etc, looting and destruction is inevitable. I saw an old video of something similar in South Africa. Even in this Black lives matter protest, looting and vandalism took place.

It is wrong to destroy government infrastructure, we tax payers are the ones it should pain more. Remember I wrote that I think poverty does something to people's mental state, at the point of vandalising and looting, none of them consider that they need these same infrastructure....only interested in sending a message.

Except for people who have written off themselves that they can't amount to anything and can't ever own an asset or Investments.

This is precisely my point

We are eating three square meals
We have fuel for gen
And we are watching dstv at home and office

Many here cant relate with the mental state those people are in

When I pass by, I see the despondency
All that

Like I keep saying
What did we expect?
We locked down

And threw the poor to the wolves
While hoarding even the palliative
Whay did we expect

I'm looking at this from their lens
Tho in some cases
Its misplaced aggression

But the conditions that led to it could have been avoided

It's sickening, don't understand the burning at all , stealing maybe.

Looks almost like a concerted effort to destroy Lagos.

The rioting has gone nationwide
Looting in Edo
Looting in Enugu
Looting in Kano
Etc

That dog whistle narrative na lie
It's not just true

Yes I'm beginning to see where you're coming from.

The Instagram live video we all saw was very effective, there's increasing evidence that thing's were exaggerated, but the government caused all of this sha.

There are tweets about dragons on twitter suggestive of burning.

Anyway make i keep quiet.

Very false narrative. Yes, emotions are high right now. Please note that many non Yorubas have had their businesses looted and destroyed too. Of course bad elements may be helping the process, but this is not a tribe issue.

To add to this, every situation has an epicentre. For a densely populated Lagos where the main protest were happening, it is expected that when things detoriate, Lagos will be mostly hit more. The government has started spinning this tribal narrative as a last resort to deflect us away from our main problem - growing poverty as well as the SARS issue itself.

My happiness is that the younger generation have shown not to be as tribalistic as us.

Politicians, criminals, frausters, youths, jobless people, anarchist, people with ethnic agenda, all sorts capitalized on the protest to actualize their aims and objectives

Happy? Who? Please don't tell me you listen too to ethnic bigots like IPOB and Miyetti Allah?

This affects us all. Lagos is metropolitan in nature, not one tribe. There was destruction in Edo state and many other southern states too.

I have always said people get the type of leaders and security agents they deserve.

Until we change our ways, orientation, thinking and values, nothing can change in Nigeria.

It is the same Nigerians that are in the police, military, judiciary, civil service, politician, business etc

Orile police station was burnt down a day before the robbery, Bode Thomas police station can't handle the numbers about 500 hoodlums.

All these happened between last night and early this morning
Even if no station was burnt, the police would still do nothing.

The mission of the thread is clear-cut; Tbills.

It matters little or nothing if the investment isn’t performing well, the fact remains that Tbills is the focus of the thread. Any other discourse (aside investments) is an abuse.

My inference of your statement is that you’re making discussions here just for the sake of discussions in order to keep the thread busy. Too bad, if that’s it. Silence has its value. Same way Nigerian leaders hijack processes and platforms, divert resources for reasons other than their initial purposes.

If you need to discuss socio-political issues, there are threads for that. Some not-too-frequent readers of this thread and newbies will be overwhelmed by the unrelated discourses on the thread.

Biko, let’s manage our resources well. Best!

Bakosokoto:

Sorry about that, but in all honesty there not much to discuss about TB for now

The criminals are taking advantage to release their comrades from the prison. Different people with different agenda whereas the main aim of the protest has long been forgotten. I am sure the owners of those businesses would not have minded if it was SARS that helped prevent the hoodlums from destroying their business.

But oga Ema, how come the market is not yet reacting? I do not understand at all.

I don't remember accusing anyone, let alone tribe.

If the burning continues it won't be long before people start looking for scapegoats, they've been told countless times not to burn, whoever is doing it.

Reacted only in the early hours, by mid day it had returned to normal. Yet the country is not sure what direction it is headed. I hope I am not being paranoia.
