Governor Jide Sanwo-Olu Apologises To Lagosians by shullygirl: 9:43pm On Oct 22, 2020
We mourn the lives we have sadly lost across the state. To the families that we could have better protected, I sincerely apologise.
To the police and law enforcement that lost members, we also mourn them. Every life is important to us. And we do not take anyone for granted.

I was on Arise TV where I spoke on the efforts we’re making to return normalcy to our state. I mentioned my call to the President after which the Chief of Defence Staff called to assure us on helping to restoring security to our state.

Lagos will be stronger. We will rebuild bridges, we will deliver on the good work we started on ending police brutality and providing justice.

The unfortunate incident that happened served as a catalyst that fueled anger and looting by thugs across the state. False news and baiting was also spread across social media further causing more chaos. We indeed apologize for all the losses.

We are working to stabilise things across the state as we look to rebuild. The state team is working with the hospitals and emergency services to verify the details of everyone involved in incidents across the state.

I understand that tempers are high but we are beginning to get a clearer picture of what led us to this point, and I want to ask us to be circumspect to avoid further losses and triggering other sentiments. Do not encourage conflict through parody and innocent but inciteful words.

On our work to end police brutality, our panel is ready to begin work. We want to find justice and provide compensation for victims to the best of our abilities.
We encourage the youth to provide 2 representatives to join the judicial panel.

I want to implore Lagosians on the need to come together for genuine reconciliation to forge a better and stronger Lagos

Lagos is the center of excellence, a symbol of national pride and we need to protect it.
Once again, for all that has gone wrong in the past few days, I totally apologize.

It is my Lagos, your Lagos, our Lagos.

We will protect our home.

God bless Lagos State

My problem why didnt he stop sar since.

Once you see people attacking police before the protest and people killed by police, that should be the time to curtail them.

I undersood, SAR is a federal unit and only federal government can end it, but he should have taken action.

The problem of last minutes solution escalated all these stuff

I know it has been a very challenging and a tensed week for governor Sanwo-Olu.
I believe our leaders can now see that leadership is a position of responsibility.
May God heal our land.

I am happy he obeyed real Yoruba elders as represented by AFENIFERE.

It is a pity he governs at the sole pleasure of Tinubu. What a real waste becaus he seems like a very nice man.

Let's hope Lagosians absolve him, to an extent for this apology.

Buhari and Buratai must not be pardoned though

Protect lagosians from external force like buhari and his cohorts, he doesn't care about anyone except himself and his northern brothers. He has nearly destroyed the reputation tinubu has been building since 1999' we the Lagos youths accept your sincere apologies.

Helinues has sold his soul because of blind support for buhari, the south should come together and present a formidable candidate for 2023 who will rule and do unto the north what buhari did to the south

Baba setup. They used him to kill his own people and ran away. Cowards. Couldn’t even address the situation and resort to telling shameless and obnoxious lies. Even his boss ran and left him to his mess. He should realize that governing Lagos is his sole responsibility and he should not be taking directions from anybody. Even his boss’s son used him as scapegoat and ran away.

They're reactive not proactive!

Most Nigerian leaders (elected, appointed and in public service) operate on the level of 'leaders in a zoo', so they aren't capable of raising above their environment. They are as brutal and uncivilised as the environment that nurtured them allows them to be!

We have heard you Mr Sanwo-Olu, apologies accepted. But Lagosians would like to know those who carried out the shooting. At the cessation of this whole mess the following should be brought to face the law.

1. The arrest and prosecution of those who sent soldiers to use live bullets on protesters at the Lekki toll gate.
2. The compensation of families of those who lost their lives.
3. The police officers who fired directly at protesters in different parts of the state.
4. The arrest of hoodlums and criminals who used the opportunity of the protest to wreck mayhem these past days.
5. And an inquiry into allegations of Police brutality by members of the public.
