The issue escalated because a dolt working for the prison services in Uyo opened fire on an armless protester and ran over another one thereby killing two people this afternoon just because the protesters had told them to turn back. The chaos that followed was just the aftermath of the uniform guy's action. I'm just wondering who trains these guys in uniform. Most of them are so unprofessional.

So sad that a peaceful protest that has been ongoing in Uyo ,got out of hand today, and the looting started.
LG showroom by Itam FLYOVER was looted by over 2-300 miscreants.
Access bank burnt.
Several shops looted.
Why?
So sad that innocent business people have to suffer.
Don't know how the government will handle the situation.

what a bunch of crap! pray tell, why where security lights of the streets, off all through the period of this upheaval??Businesses on Ikot ekpene road ,were broken into by thugs, all with no presence of the police to curb them! from De Choice at Plaza ,to LG at the end of itam axis, premises were broken into, shops vandalized and no efforts made to stem the tide if destruction!
these were done by hooligans, young brats with no idea of what it takes to earn a worthy living. from our office that was vandalized and flat screens stolen, laptops ripped off, I got videos from the cctv and will not hesitate to share them with the indigenes of the state!
now, by 11.30pm,light is restored on 1 half of Ikot ekpene road, leaving the other end leading to plaza, in darkness!!
and worse still,NEPA has seen it fit to take their power at a time we need it most!
what kind of insensitive government is this and what brought about this breakdown in an otherwise ,peaceful protest?
rumours had it, it was caused by the shooting of two people by wardens, leading to this anarchy.
a lot needs to be done to remove this thieving mentality from our youth

Lol... when I heard that rumour I knew it's untrue BECAUSE my Governor Udom wouldn't be that silly to give out money just like that. Well he did say he'll send back something to the youths yes to appreciate them

stop telling Lies, the protesters were throwing stones and pure water at the prison van conveying prisoners, and BTW, why would you tell a prison van returning prisoners to the prison to go back, they should go back to where?

that is the normal time NEPA brings light around that area. don't blame Government for this. It all started from the protesters who were being aggressive to a prison van. when they provoked them to shooting, they don't want to be called protesters again.

You must be one of the dolts I referred to.

So what's the difference with what I said caused the escalation? What got people mad to the point of burning properties down?

Or wasn't someone shot? So if protesters tell you to turn back, the penalty for their offence is a headshot? Sometimes I wonder how some people reason. The prison van could have just diverted and used Uyo village road if they had sense and that would have saved some lives and properties.

Prior to that sad incident, a whole police commissioner was also turned away by protesters at same spot. Why didn't the CP drag and show superiority by using force?
Or the CP wasn't smart?

were you there? what you said is totally different and don't try heaping the blame on the prison guys because you don't know the demand of their job. if anything happens to those prisoners, their job and life is on the line. They should have turned back when stones and projectiles were hurled at them.

The Lagos State Deputy Governor, Obafemi Hamzat, has announced plans by the state government to help owners of businesses that were vandalized or looted by hoodlums during the crisis that erupted in the state on Tuesday, October 20 2020.

Hamzat disclosed this in a tweet posted on his Twitter handle on Friday, October 23 2020. The tweet also contained a link to a form that the store owners are expected to fill.

“If you are a Lagos based business and your store got looted/vandalized this week, please fill this form by @LSETFhttps:///lwPiXvFzTp. Let’s do what we can to support you,” he tweeted.

So didn't they still turn back? They shot a guy and ran over another one. In the end they still did what they were told to do in the first place, where's the sense?

They were transporting prisoners, so didn't they still transport them after killing two people?

Forget work pressure abeg, that's what they are trained to do. There wasn't any threat like people were trying to free prisoners, the prison guy was just trigger happy.
