If you're VDB, how will you feel watching James and Mata start ahead of you? Mata isn't bad but he is only useful when we play against teams that will sit back for most of the play asking us to break them down if we can...

I think OGS went for a balanced approach. If Chelsea sat back Mata and Bruno can work some magic- that’s if we can bypass their press. And if they played from the back, James can help with the press.

If Martial was available James wouldn’t be on the pitch.

And VDB will get his games. OGS once benched Bruno for him in one game this season. It was not a pretty thing to watch.

Ultimately, OGS needs to find a way to get the best out of his players. Most of them offer unique qualities that can come in handy. Thing is what works for Newcastle may not work for Crystal Palace.

Greenwood on the left, Martial up top and Rashford on the right yesterday would’ve been a better game for us since we surrendered possession to Chelsea and rendered Lampard clueless.

James played as a winger yesterday, while Mata was on a free role, I guess because of their conjested defence that is why Mata started.

If martial or Cavani had started with rashy on the wings in place of James we will have had a better game.

VDB will get his chance, but I don't think he can play that Bruno's role, make OGS try Fred and VDB anchor with Bruno up top, and maybe Mata against a park tha bus team, mehn it will be a delightful match to watch

Which one do you want?

We have an abundance of decent midfielders. We have no real quality wingers, and 4 good forwards.


With those resources Ole should be using 4-4-2 and 3-5-2 more often than not.

But Bros o , you want a guy to play at all costs so much that you are willing to put him in his worst position just so he plays?

And when he doesn't perform in a pivot?

If i hear anybody say make VDB play double pivot with Fred. Which kain thing be that. . Deploying Fred is more effective if he plays alongside Mc Tominay. None of dem is a legit DM, but at least you can trust you have a lot of fire there. They can compensate for their inadequate defensive prowess by being present everywhere just within the second third of our half. Just wish we had a faster DM. It was obvious Chelsea was looking for a draw, if you ask me, that's progress. Lampard obviously didn't want last season's humiliation, so although they were having most of the ball, they were clueless with it. I believe that diamond formation needs a legit DM to be effective. Just wish Mc Tominay can be that person. That defensive recklessness is still there. Perhaps at 23, he can still modify his game to improve his decision making in the middle of the pack. How about Fosu Mensah? Perhaps they could play him in that position for our reserve matches. He looks like someone who could be effective in that. Once we get that reliable DM, we would be talking about devastating attacking machinery doing the lord's work in the other two-thirds of the field. Besides, perhaps we can understand that against certain opposition, at least for now VDB would just not be effective. Waiting for that Leipzig match though. I want to see something.
