You are funny and too narrow minded. Nigerians are generally too slow to react to price increase. I thought it should have been our major focus during the protest. One of our demand should have been #openourborders.

The cost of most stable food items have increased astronomically.

1. Sachet of tomatoes paste now cost between 100 - 120 naira in Rivers State.
2. A foreign bag of rice is about 40,000 naira as against 9,000 when Buhari starred ruling.

I could go on and on. It's not just about onions. Onions price fluctuates and it will certainly drop depending on how the supply comes.

But the price of rice hardly drop.

The border closure is the cause. In any case, the rice still find their ways in illegally. They have to bribe security personnel and some go through routes where they spend more. And the local rice price is determined by the price of foreign rice.

If the borders are opened, the price of rice will crash.

The high price of rice also make those selling Garri to increase their price. So, the border closure only succeeds in bringing inflation and affliction to poor Nigerians.

Government should open the borders and local rice producers just have to find ways to make their products much cheaper and availability in commercial quantity.

If foreign rice sells for 20k and local rice for 12k per bag, so many might go for the local rice but if the price is close like say, 17k, many will prefer foreign rice.

Here in Owerri the smallest one in that pic above is #100. I learnt that the hausa's are no more bringing food stuffs because of hoodlums. I think when the country is calm, things will be better

At MARKET ( eg Adatan & Elega), total cost is N100...maximum of twenty Naira each. N10 each for small ones.....Ogun State is one that you can manage well.

Someone bought petrol yesterday for gen, @ 200 on NTA road, another bought petrol for car @ 157.50 on east west road. Prices vary across the city.

I bought some yesterday. of this quantity shouldn't be more than 150. also a small size paint bucket of tomato was 200(not all that are fresh) this can only be in the North.

Price of foodstuff has shot through the roof. 0n Monday, it was obvious to even the blind that food had suddenly become dearer. I suspect the protests made movement of foodstuffs more difficult and hence pricier to transport.

The price hike should therefore be temporary. It may however remain if it's due to the seasonality occasioned scarcity of some crops.

Also had the same experience. The market people attribute the cost of onions to the curfew in placed in most of the northern states. The hike in price is as a result of supply disruption.
