michaelo2: Skin serves a vital purpose as a barrier, protecting the inside of the body.
The skin is filled with special cells of the immune system that protect the body and skin from viruses, bacteria, and other hidden threats.
For some people, itchy skin is a constant battle. It can be difficult to understand exactly what is causing the skin to itch.
Itchy skin can be the result of a rash or another skin condition. It can also be a symptom of a more serious condition such as liver disease or kidney failure.
To get relief, it is important to identify the problem and treat the underlying cause.
Itching is a symptom that is common to many skin complaints. Skin can itch all over the body or only in specific areas.
Here are some specific causes of itchy skin.
Dry skin
Dry skin is one of the most common causes of itchy skin. If you do not see any bright red bumps or notice a sudden change to your skin, dry skin is a likely cause.
Environmental factors that can lead to dry skin include excessively hot or cold weather with low humidity, as well as washing too much.
Dry skin can affect any age group, but, as you age, your skin becomes thinner and drier.
A good moisturizer can usually help to repair dry skin.
Eczema
Eczema, or atopic dermatitis, is the most common cause of skin rash in children.
The WHO states that eczema affects 1 in 5 infants but only 1 in 50 adults.
The cause has been linked to leakiness of the skin barrier.
This causes the area to dry out, putting it at risk of irritation and inflammation. It is important to keep the skin moisturized.
Eczema often improves over time. People with eczema have to be careful, however, as they are more vulnerable to skin infections.
Allergies
Irritation and allergic reactions can also cause itchy skin. Allergic contact dermatitis occurs when the skin comes into direct contact with an allergen.
An allergic reaction can cause an itchy skin rash.
The result of the skin allergy is a red, itchy rash that can include small blisters or bumps.
The rash arises whenever your skin comes in contact with the allergen, a substance that the immune system attacks.
Often, there is a time delay between exposure to the allergen and when the rash occurs.
Allergic reactions can be triggered by touching clothing, pets, chemicals, soaps, and substances such as poison ivy or cosmetics.
Food allergies can also cause the skin to itch.
Nickel allergies are quite common. When you come into contact with jewelry that contains even a small amount of nickel, they can develop red, bumpy, itchy, and swollen skin at the point of contact.
If you have an allergic reaction to a particular substance, one of the easiest things to do is to avoid that product or substance.
Over-the-counter creams or medicated creams can help to clear up a rash.
Infections
Itching can also be related to parasites such as threadworms, insects such as bedbugs, mosquitoes, or lice.
Fungal infections such as athlete's foot can also cause itching between and around the toes.
Home remedies
The following home remedies may help reduce itching:
# Using a high-quality moisturizing cream on the skin and applying it at least once or twice each day.
# Applying an anti-itch cream, such as nonprescription hydrocortisone cream, to the area to help relieve the itching.
# Applying a cool, wet compress to the affected area.
# Taking a lukewarm bath.
# Choosing mild soaps without dyes or perfumes and using mild or unscented laundry detergent when washing.
# Avoiding substances that irritate the skin or cause an allergic reaction such as nickel, jewelry, and wool.
Perhaps the most important self-care measure is to avoid scratching.
Scratching can ultimately lead to further inflammation and damage to the skin and can worsen the itching.
If over-the-counter creams do not work, if a rash spreads, or if you experiences additional symptoms beyond itching, you should see a physician or skin specialist to identify the cause and treat the particular problem.

Ademidd: I do take predisolone before I dry or cream my body, dat way it will reduce the itching or not itch at all. Before I know of predisolone tab, twas always as if I want to die when my body start itching me. A sachet is #50, u can try it and see if it will work for you. Use to be a victim wayback 2009. But when I limited d time I use in the bathroom(5-7mins), limited d intake of too much greasy foods, stopped bathing with hotwater(I use cold or warm at times), it stopped excessively. Though the hot water thingy is kinda tricky, I realised whenever I use hot water, d thing never shows up, but when I read bout the harmful effects of bathing with it, I had to stop. Lol but whenever I use cold water, I always feel like dying, it later changed sha, that was when I limited the time I spend in the bathroom. It only shows up whenever I take too much oil food, and recently I realised it’s not every oily food I cannot take. Now I eat most of them comfortably. If you are Yoruba, I think it’s called “Norun”. Ask around about it, it surely has a cure without going through all this stress. |

Most often than not, in mothers, it's called POSTPARTUM HIVES. Postpartum hives, This is a medical condition that occurs after delivery. During thus period, your body’s immune system reacts to allergeis or some hormonal changes, which causes it to release histamine, a protein, in the bloodstream. The histamine then bloats some tiny blood capillaries and the plasma leaks into the skin, which now results into the itchy condition that is called postpartum hives. Women tend to suffer this hives at different time spans after the delivery. Postpartum hives typically occur on the arms, feet, and the back. My wife experienced same, and doctor's prescriptions only subdued it for a while before it came up again. But a prescription eventually dealt with it. |

Adewalefae: Nigeria Lagos state it’s started about 4 months ago I don't know how to address yours.. mine was a result of the winter exposure, I stopped sweating, skin pores became blocked, I was always itchy whenever I am in a heater and if the heater is too hot, I itch badly.. same thing applied to the sunlight.. This was my cure, I had to find a way to make the body sweat. And this happened during summer..I boiled ,fried chicken in the afternoon, it became hot inside and I discovered my body was beginning to sweat but keep in mind as it was sweating I was itching so badly but this was a good sign as this was the first time in a long while my skin was sweating. Eventually I sweat till no itch. I took my shower and went under the sun, no more itch. But keep in mind that my body has to sweat some more for the healing to take effect.. I do not have that sickness no more..I contacted Nigerian doctor friends, other African doctors, they sent me drugs but nothing.. even the almighty western nation had no cure and they felt I was mad when I was trying to explain the condition. It was a long time course mate back in Ghana whom I called and explained the situation and she told me my cure lies in the tropics as it affected her back in the UK until she came back to Ghana, her body healed.. In your case my friend, I dont know how to explain but you have to understand your body and know what solution might work for you.. Exercising my body was impossible as whenever I try,I get the itch of my life..I tried various means but nothing. I waited till summer and then I tried the cooking experiment, closed every door and windows until I got what I wanted and it worked for me.. |

Bro please I'm having this same issue , please how did you stop yours I'm in severe discomfort help please
post=66304598]please i have the same issues, my skin had been itching me since January. Around february i went to a clinic and was given antibiotics and a pritin. It supresssed the itching while I was on the dose. but after the dosage it came back hard. itching between the fingers and on the chest then the lower part of the stomach. Then my balls started itching and there's this reaction on my fore skin like a sore. while in between my fingers like pimples then it dries off. then i went to the clinic cos it the itching was maaaaad. the doc saw the the reaction and concluded it was syphilis and I was like that's impossible I only have one gf. and we've only known each other. he started accusing me like he was living with me that I was lying. he insisted I did test i did the test lo and behold it was it was positive so I treated my self the called my gf we need to do STI tests. the she came out negative I still marvel why this is but I took the drugs and same as before. while the dosage the itch was reduced. sometimes I dont even feel it anymore. then i applied benzyl benzoate to0. now the dosage is finished and my body has started with the itching again.. this time my head, elbows armpit shoulders buttocks and between my laps and I'm really tired of this. my foreskin is messy. I went to see another doctor she said in being treated for the wrong thing that's it's scabies i checked online and found the same symptoms then I discovered syphilis doesnt itch i was so mad cos i spent alot treating this. she said I just need to apply a cream ivermectin I looked all over can't find or permectin I've been doing ultimate search for this. I'm tired of this plague. I'm tired of using drugs that don't work any one who has the solution. even if it's traditional , native doctor I'm in cos I'm tired of this mess. this is the 3rd month now. even as I write my epon itching me ![/quote] |
