Pardon my ignorance but what are the arguements against it? Maybe I have been blindsided by the Free Healthcare service we get over here because I see no reason why members from both parties are dead against it.
The main Republican argument against it is that “socialized medicine” will enable the government to choose your doctor, determine who gets surgery, determine who lives or dies, etc

What the hell. Not even close to what is done in say Canada and the UK. Government definitely doesn't determine who gets surgery or who lives or dies. They are just retardds to think of such.

Healthcare is not a right in the US is one big issue. Secondly, our system of economy is primarily Capitalist! This system is the bedrock of our history as a country, the ideology looks to limit the influence of Government in certain areas of lives and that includes healthcare. The Republicans who are textualist when it comes to the interpretation of the constitution and our ideologies don’t want any interference from government.. They call it socialism and compare it to extreme communist situations..

The UK and Canada practice the National single payer system with the NHS while the US practices the multi-payer system with the private healthcare carrying the bulk of the load because it is in the spirit of Capitalist America. Government gets involved through Medicaid and Medicare only for those who meet very strict financial resource (total resources must be under 2K before you can get Medicaid), age or disability criteria. So you can see it does not cover the vast number of Americans.

The only way you can get healthcare treatment in the US is if you go to the ER. Legally, no hospital ER can deny you healthcare if you walked into the ER. They may ask you for your insurance card but will not deny you care because you don’t have it. This is why a lot of undocumented immigrants use the ER. Well, guess who absorbs the unpaid ER bills? We do!! Through ridiculous city/ state taxes.

Until healthcare becomes a right in the US we will continue to suffer with this system. There is more to it that I want to discuss but this is the basis. Again, this issue transcends party lines.

I do not think members of both party are against it..that is why Obama gave them Obamacare..But for 10years,the GOP has been going back and forth trying to repeal and replace but it has always come to naught..crazy people

It seems to me that their core voting demographic might be dead against it too so I see why they might be trying to appease them. All I have to say is that sickness and diseases are no respecter of persons or Party lines.

Lool this arguement is silly to say the least. All they have to do is take a look at the countries that practice the kind of system they are against and they'll see that line of thought is dead on arrival. Worse case scenario your surgery will be delayed by a bit. However if you can not stand the waiting times, there is always the private option.

Thanks for this. Enlightening!

Your last two paragraphs says it all really. So in essence you are still paying for it one way or another. Am I right?

I am Dumbfounded to find that there are First world countries were Health is not considered a right. Good Healthcare is a Need not a Want.
