I have been in the process of reuniting with my husband since February. Luckily after my first appointment in March was cancelled due to corona virus, I got a new appointment on 14th July.

* I’ll skip the part where the lady who attended to me in the consulate was very hostile towards me*

She then says that my visa application should be made through the German embassy rather than Italian embassy, because my husband resides in Germany currently.

I’ll rather I apply In the country my husband has citizenship (Italy) than a country he’s just residing (Germany). He’s been in Germany for 6 years now and hasn’t been in Italy in 4 years.

Does anybody know how to get through this?

Yes, she's right, the best embassy you can apply at is Germany embassy. Try to look for the tourist visa requirements on their embassy site.

I believe she might be right. But after going through the German consulate website, the procedure to getting German family reunification visa is quite long, I’ll have to wait till next year June to get an appointment, considering I have already legalized my marriage & birth certificate @ the Italian consulate, all the stress I went through to get these things done.

Anyway, my husband says he’ll rather rent a house in Italy and renewing His insurance card and opening a new bank account that after all there are some Italian folks who work in Switzerland and return back to Italy during the weekend.

It's just me going. My husband is already there. Proof of accomdation requires renting a house and putting it in your name. And your husband needs a bank account with money to prove that your husband can habour you for a good amount of time. Also you'll health insurance , but if your husband has a fisical code number then that shouldn't be a problem.

And your husband needs a bank account with money to prove that your husband can habour you for a good amount of time. Also you'll health insurance , but if your husband has a fisical code number then that shouldn't be a problem.

My parents are permanent residents in Italy. I am a 21 year old fresh graduate. How easy do you think it will be for me to secure a family unification visa?

The process after submitting your application doesn't take that long..

Your husband will have to apply for his work visa first, when his visa is out, you can apply for family reunion visa.

You can be able to apply for family reunification at the German embassy if your husband has certificate of registration for EU citizens or holders of EU passport (Italian passport). If he has this certificate his family will be able to join him in Germany if he's working and has an accommodation there and also health insurance.
My question is what was your experience like with legalization of your birth certificate because this is the reason I'm here on this forum,I have to legalize my birth certificate at the Austrian embassy, but the questions on the questionnaire are too much and they want proof for almost every question which I don't have all,I don't know if I don't bring proof of everything it's going to be a problem please share your experience and I can also explain to you anything you would like to know about Italy because I had my residence permit in Italy but I'm currently in Austria also for family reasons.

I would advise you to apply for family reunification at the German embassy because lots of people arrive in Italy and still run to Germany.You can ask your husband how it functions in Italy and Germany and where it will benefit you and your family more.

Back at the Italian embassy i was asked to bring my Marriage certificate and birth certificate ( translated to italian and Original copies Authenticated in MOFA). Then, I went back to the consulate and paid N22k for both documents. Then they gave me a date to pick up. Legalizing an registration of Marriage is what i did, cos the consulate has to register your marriage in Austria.

My husband and i had settled the issue already of where to apply, we decided to use Italy, process is easier and shorter. We have just on more thing to do before i head to the VFS.
Its just the Germans take a very looong time to even book appointment for FR.

The Italians did require any questionnaire from me. Or proof of anything.

I am a permanent resident of Italy .
According to the law that deals with this issue.
You can only reunite with your parent if you are below the age of 18 ( a minor) , if you are an invalid adult or if you are above 65 years of age and depend on them for your survival. So in your own case they cant bring you because you are above 18yrs and you are well.
Your best bet is if they bring you as an underage child and that means falsifying all your documents.

For your Husband to be able to bring you to live with him in italy He must be earning at least 8,931euro a year from his job or business , have an appartment in Italy either rented or bought and have health insurance . In other words he is paying his taxes in Italy. So if you say your husband is based in Germany and working there then he is paying his taxes in Germany and that means he can only bring you to Europe through the German embassy via family reunion because that is where he works and pay his taxes .
So the Lady at the Italian embassy is 100% right

Hi Irunma, please can you share the process involved. I'm also preparing to reunite with my husband in Italy.

Please may I know the person that translated your documents for you. Did you do that in Abuja or Lagos? Because someone told me that I can only notarize and translate my documents in Lagos only and not Abuja. And what about police character, did you legalize that too?

Let me answer the question.
1. My spouse paid 250k (extortion) for verification sometimes in April
2. It took them two months to issue visa after much pressure. I called the embassy at least three times before they issued the VISA.
To be honest with you, I don't know why bureaucracy is a thing with italian instituitions.

Thank you for this info. So the idea is to immediately start calling and writing to them after paying. But from my experience, they don't pick calls on the numbers they listed on their website.
