Everyday my hatred for Europeans keeps rising, especially for the britains. Those greedy devilish white coloured skin bastards came to distort societies/places within Nigeria and Africa as a whole, created heterogeneous countries, looted our resources and artifacts. Till today we are still paying for their atrocities, any evil politician you see today in Africa is as a result of the actions of these Europeans. Africa lost way more than they can ever gain from Europeans and it really saddens my heart. If they hadn't interfered selfishly, Africa would be at the same level with them if not better, even though we may do our things differently in the african way but the end results certainly would be marvelous. Let this thread be an eye opener, let's learn to look inwards, focus on our own and cherish it.
No be everyone wey copy him neighbor for exam hall dey pass.

There's nothing like a ''failed country''.

Countries evolve over time. Every country began as a disorderly scrap of turf in the middle of nowhere.

Was America a ''failed country'' 60 years ago when blacks were being lynched in the streets, and denied basic rights, or when they suffered in slavery centuries before that?

Was the UK a ''failed country'' a century ago when people slept 10 to a room in London and child labour was the norm, while the aristocracy partied?

Countries evolve and develop over time, and so will Nigeria.

One day we will know all this and many other truths about our history.

Thank you so much for this elucidation. The whites came to destroy everything including religion which was the foundation of our great civilization. If only we can eschew bigotry, tribalism and build Nigeria together. But it takes great learning to understand that every country is subjected to its own peculiar evolutionary process!

Edo igodomigodo is and will always be and Igboland. You can't do anything to change it. When Onicha people and Ikwerre people claim to be from Edo, do you know what that means?? They are Igbo but they are from Edo, because Edo is Igbo. It may take thousands of years but one day you all will learn your unknown history.

This story breaks my heart. So the English man came; killed our ancestors, burnt our glorious Benin city to the ground and carted away artefacts and sculptures that identify us. Now if we want to know more about the ancient Benin kingdom all we have to do is travel to the UK and visit their museums.
Is Nigeria not a failed country? A country that can't preserve its identity or teach her citizens their history shouldn't exist.
its heartbreaking, they did it out of greed

angry

Only God knows why Edo people suddenly developed hatred for Yorubas. I know hundreds of Edolites who disassociate themselves from Yorubas and insult Yorubas on a daily basis as if they are better. A small tribe that is known for crime and prostitution has the audacity to insult Yorubas. You guys must be out of your senses, idiots!.
As for Lagos, though am not Yoruba, Lagos is Yoruba land and no stupid Benin Wizard can claim the city!

This contraption called Nigeria has made a mess of the great minds of Benin.

The country has left the state with poverty they had to send their daughters for prostitution.

When Anthony Enahoro called for independence, he didn’t know Nigeria would break Benin Pride.

Well, as the article said, Benin traded palm oil, pepper etc with them, and in return they sent guns.

And then in 1897 they invaded and burnt down the great city.

They have a lot to answer for, and will receive God's judgement.
God's judgement? Why not "The god's Judgement. You are still stuck to the Europeans. There is still a lot to answer for and top of the list is RELIGION

Calling you inconsequential is not an insult but a fact.

And who cares if Europeans did exposition or not

Akure was under Benin, that was then.

There was Igodo and Idu. In Igbo folklore Igodo, Iduu and Oba form part of ancient stories transferred through generations. The chaotic wars of Benin empire around 15th century is known in Igbo as "agha Iduu n'Oba" and because it was brought by people who crossed the River Niger to settle in the East many mocked them as fairytales also known as "Akuko Iduu n'Oba" in Igbo. Ijaw also have similar stories so it cannot be false. The name Odogwu very common among Igbos represents heroic journey of a giant Igbo warrior to fight as a mercenary in Iduu n'Oba.
The Edos always want to disrespect the Yorubas but we just choose to let them keep on believing in what they choose to believe. The Ogiso dynasty and the Odionweres system was what they practiced before Oranmiyan came into that land. They do no want to admit that Oranmiyan lineage brought in the Obaship system to them, in order not to feel that Yorubas introduced Obaship to that land, they brought a story of Ekaladerhan with no single proof to back it up. But there are visible evidence that Oranmiyan gave birth to the very first Oba that started the Benin empire, even the heads are buried in Ife. A history fact and evidence that has put a nail to the all those story of Ekaladerhan bla bla bla is the Ekiokpagha treaty. A peace treaty between the Obaship dynasty and the Aborigines of Igodomigodo. That treaty simply show that some Yorubas migrated from Ife, mixed with some Aborigines and created the Benin empire.

yes Africa already had enough so they had no reason to seek for resources by all means adding to that, geography also left west and southern Africa in the dark.

The vast desert of north Africa isolated them in time.

Early technology exchange couldn't happen as it was between Europe and Asia.
I agree with this. According to the late, great Dr Chancellor Williams, in The Destruction of Black Civilization, the decline of African civilization began with the loss of the north African Mediterranean coast to Arab invaders in 70 AD, and before then, to increasing desertification of the once-fertile Sahara.

The land was not conquered, in fact they inter married, and the people accepted even some Yoruba believe system and gods like Ogun, Olokun etc. Names lie Adesua shows the connection and how they bonded. In ile Ife, there is nothing you can trace back to the Igodomigodo land but there are lots of things in Edo that you can say came from Ife.

It took a white man to tell us this.....when you can’t tell your story then others will tell it for you and shape your ideology and in so doing shape your progress as a people. Nigerians don’t value history that was why they went and elected a man who crushed the young democracy that was handed to them on a platter, and in so doing drove us into decades of military juntas and corruption..Nigerians fought and died to gain back their democracy only to hand it back to the same man who trampled upon in the past! What a people!
