As long as there is a law there, obey it, simple. Kano State is simply showing the rest of Nigeria how to organse its territories. So you either get the laws changed or leave. This is what we have been advocating for the greater Nigeria. People gathering together to decide and elect collective values... popularly known as restructuring. Unfortunately those who should be pressing on with their own programmes are busy fighting each other, moaning that they are held back and pointing fingers at those who are moving forward. Isn't that what we call 'crab mentality'. Who has the structure it wants. ? ... The joke is indeed on lazy Nigeria. |

ILoveDemMANNA:Is Kano an sovereign state? Can we stop the mallams from their alms begging, or sale of burantashi and all sorts here because they irritate us? There would be war if anyone dies that. Do you know how many of those whose limbs were cut all in the name of sharia and turned beggars down south have done with their money realised from begging up north? Many have built mansions in their villages they come from. I remember the time fashola sent some back to the north. All of their Elites were attacking him, threatening to rain brimstone. Their emirs also waded in before it was resolved amicably. This is why we need to restructure or we break up. Its that simple. I don't drink beer but that doesn't mean I should stop people from drinking. Nigeria is a secular and not religious state. I've seen some of the hausas drink beer from inside rhein agee( kettle) . 2 Likes |

Oin I guess alcohol and wearing of skimpy dresses are only considered immoral acts. But sleeping with underage boys and girls are allowed. Killing innocent citizens are accepted. Hypocritical fools head slammers. Its still them who add alcohol into their rubber kettles to sip. 200m just for waste inspite of the north being the headquarters of poverty in the country. This country cannot be better with the barbaric acts of the north. 3 Likes |

joseph1832: It still goes back to what I said. 1) Nigeria is a Federal Republic (just like the United States). 2) The fact that it is a federation means that states can make their own laws (that's why there are state houses of assembly). This is also true in the United States and in every federation. The constituent parts can make their own laws. 3) Every state in southern Nigeria has its own criminal code. Northern states (or the Northern Region) also had its own criminal code in the early 1960s. 4) Sharia law has existed in Nigeria since before independence and the British considered it to be part of Nigerian customary/native law. 5) However, the British removed the criminal aspects of customary law. This means that customary law is limited to things like marriage and divorce, inheritance, etc, but does not include things like murder, robbery, etc. This is the reason that trial of murder suspects by torture no longer exists in the south. 6) In the 1960s some northerners complained that Sharia law was being divided into criminal law and personal law and that this is not possible because Sharia Law is one. Ahmadu Bello listened to their complaints and enacted a penal code in Northern Nigeria. Because of this, most states in Northern Nigeria have a penal code and most states in the south have a criminal code. 7) In the early 2000s, some states in Northern Nigeria passed new laws that included Sharia criminal law. Some people say this is unconstitutional, because what is in the constitution is personal law. However, this has never been tested in the courts. 8 ) The governments of the northern states say that the destruction of bottles of alcoholic beverages is done because of the penal code laws in their state and not because of Sharia law. 9) Note that states have the right to make laws, so long as the law does not contradict the constitution. Anybody that feels agrieved can sue the state government to get the law declared unconstitutional. For example, Lagos State Government had a state traffic law that permitted LASTMA to impound cars and fine people. Someone's car was impounded and the person sued the government. The court declared the section of the law that gave LASTMA the power to impound cars and fine people null because it was unconstitutional. It violated people's right to fair hearing because it made LASTMA both the complainant and the judge 10) So the northern states say they have the right to ban alcohol, but anybody whose alcoholic beverage was confiscated and who believes that his constitutional rights have been violated can sue the state government. 4 Likes 2 Shares |

360degreess: Face your quoran and stop quoting the scripture you know nothing about. The Bible condemned excessive intake of alcohol, it doesn't ban it. Jesus said "The Son of man came eating and drinking". Do you know what that mean? Face your religion please. 3 Likes |
