Will Dangote Have Become A Billionaire Without Government Monopoly? The federal government recently exempted the Dangote group from the border closure. He has enjoyed government monopoly under the Buhari,IBB,Abacha,OBJ,GEJ and Buhari regime. No bro. Dangote is so powerful right now that he can singlehandedly install his choice on us as president if he wants. Look all over South, if its not chinese owned its lebanese owned. If not lebanese and chinese its indian owned. Now fulani has perched on us and begin to herd us like animals. Imagine our Southern govs not able to stand up to Buhari and demand support for EndSARS protesters. Meanwhile in North arewa govs stood up and hailed their youths for not participating. E be like say buhari get charm he bring out whenever he talk and command our governors. They dont oppose, they automatically just obey. He sent ministers in SW to go their region and put things in order. They just all went down and obeyed, as if they had any hand in the chaos to begin with. How many times has he deployed arewa governors to go resolve insecurity in north? Our leaders in South have become nama, herded around by Buhari. 2 Likes 1 Share |

Dangote would have became a Billionaire like his grandfather cousins and uncle, with or without government backing He built First Sugar Refinery in Nigeria sending St Louis cube sugars packing and industrial sugars we import, he was only able to do this because Dantata family were stupidly rich, they have access to foriegn creditors When he applied for lime stone mining lisence at Kogi , Ogun and Edo people thought he was stupid, why make cement when you can import right?! Fvcking wrong.. not only did he decieve importers with sudden price crash with his own cement he made customers addicted to his brand and ditch Importation till they started buying from him and he increased prices...... This model he replicated in SouthAfrica and Ethiopia When Obasanjo gave him Telecommunications lisence at a discount, he simply rejected it and said he was focusing on everyday commodity common masses need, he doesn't even own an oil company or oil rig like his brothers and cousins because he saw a bigger picture, Sugar, Cement, Flour mill . 7 Likes 2 Shares |

TecM0:What did he have to do for Abacha,IBB and OBJ the principalities and powers of corruption to get the monopoly ?There was a time he was given monopoly to import with basic commodities before he started manufacturing I think under the OBJ or Yaradua regime. |

RuudVanNisteroy: Any proof to this so called "monopoly" because last time I checked Dangote started with sugar supply to Nigerian Bottling Company not Abacha, Obasanjo or IBB It's common sense he built the largest sugar refinery, built a major flour mill, but the largest cement factory now building the largest oil and gas refinery ( to run completely or foriegn oil market not Niger Delta oil) yet you think he won't have monopoly in an importation based economy like Nigeria . 3 Likes 2 Shares |

RuudVanNisteroy: Did you even read your own link to understand what beer parlour WikiLeaks is saying In essence to summarise it to you Monopoly of trade mentioned is US - Nigeria FG , not Dangote having Trade monopoly over Nigeria The author of the leaks stressed that, while Dangote importance machinery to build his Sugar Refinery, Cement plant from the US without any difficulty , when he commenced opreation in 1999 and later FG stopped US sugar and cement makers from selling to Nigeria because we were self sufficient with Local production It's not like it is said that Dangote was the only one allowed to make Sugar, Cement or Flour in Nigeria... Even everyone knows other brand of cement , sugar and flour, what the leaks says it FG made sure only Nigerian made Sugar, Flour and Cement are purchased in Nigeria by Nigerians a move that infuriated US government . 2 Likes 2 Shares |

TecM0:Your forgot to mention this parts of the Wikileaks reports: Monopoly "Dangote's obvious unfair advantage and support from the GON are disturbing for US companies wanting to enter a market with over 130 million consumers. Conversely, some US companies indirectly benefit from GON restrictions protecting the Dangote Group of Companies, adding complexity to the Dangote paradigm. For example, Dangote allegedly receives unfair, preferential treatment to import bulk commodities." "Because of their influence in the Hausa and Muslim communities, Dangote and Dantata have always been useful to both the civilian and military leaders who ruled Nigeria. Dangote enjoyed GON favoritism in the form of importing rights throughout the military regimes and coups of the 1980s and 90s. Though he has connections with political figures throughout the country, his link to Obasanjo (OBJ) paid off when OBJ was elected president in 1999. Since then, Dangote's market advantages and growth have multiplied. " "In part, because of this shared dream, the Government has been very supportive of Dangote. We know the company at one time or another held exclusive import rights in sugar, cement, and rice using such advantages to do volume business and undercut competitors." https://wikileaks.org/plusd/cables/05LAGOS362_a.html 1 Like |

Yes. He was already a billionaire before political connections. Dangote started in 1981 and they were importing bagged cement and repackaging it, also they were importing rice, sugar, flour, salt and fish in large scale. In 1992, he and kogi state Government were partners in obajana cement. In year 2000, government was doing privatization, he bought Benue Cement Company from the Government, that is the cement factory in gboko. He has been in the cement business for long Before you guys start creating threads and crying monopoly all over the place, go read about him, when nobody was investing in Nigeria, he was investing. 2 Likes |

thebosstrevor1:Those were not government backed monopolies. It was because of the exclusive patents and technology Google and Microsoft had they had a monopoly. US government played no part. Unlike Dangote, who had some of the most corrupt Heads of State the world has ever seen like IBB and Abacha giving him monopoly to import commodities in the 80's and 90's. |
