Azikiwe reeled out the names of his ancestors from Ezechima to his father Chukwuemeka.
Did you see a single Bini name in that genealogy?

Moreover the Bini origin of Onitsha is a dead story now. The Onitsha royalty as represented by Igwe Achebe no longer hold that view. History is dynamic.
Onitsha are also proud Igbos today. smiley

Between Igwe Achebe's yesterday story and Zik's grandmother's yesteryear story which is more credible considering the current political dynamics and geographical location Igwe Achebe finds himself.

Zik's grandmother stressed that Chime was a Benin prince, he carried the Benin royal blood, nobody can be more Benin than that. It may interest you to know that some of the names considered Igbo names today such as, Amadin, ugo, Eze, Okoro and the name of Onitsha must revered shrine Udo were all ancient Benin names, people and places still bear these names in Benin.

The present Igbo land was actually part of old Benin empire.

The fact that the white Americans are proud to be Americans doesn't deny them their various European heritages and lineages.

Igbo, Bini, Ijaw, Yoruba, Ikwere, Muslim, christain or whatever, as long as you're a southerner living in the north, we the riot breaks out, the fulani isn't ready to know whether you're Igbo or ikwere or Afonja or ijaw...he hardly understands English and his only aim is for him to use his bugashi to disbowel you and rape your wives and daughters....I grew up in Jos during the 2000-2001 religious riots and southerners in the area were I was staying, formed a vigilante group to protect our neighborhood from attacks, nobody cared about tribes as long as you were a southerner....

The two enemies of the southern man is the enemy within and the enemy from north. Know this and know peace.

Exactly, if the Ikwerres want to be seen as a different ethnic group, so be it. They have a right to their self-identity. The deed is done. In the event that they find themselves in a different country as ours, we could say that the Igboid language is multi-national.

Don't get it confused

Uche Okwukwu and other opportunistic Ikwerres are all part of Ohanaeze Ndiigbo because Ohanaeze is a useless organization that is obsolete and not in sync with modernity which exactly why the organization has no grassroot support in Igbo land.

Even as UK pulled out of EU, if the EU leaders are stupid enough to make an opportunistic English man claiming to be anti Brexit the Secretary general of EU with the pay package and power that comes with it,do you think such British will decline? The answer is No.
But does EU making an English man the Secretary general of EU change the fact that the British back home have no interest in being part of EU.

That Uche Okwukwu an Ikwerre man is even allowed to be part of Ohanaeze let alone rise to post of Secretary general is a testament to how useless Ohanaeze Ndiigbo is as an organization.
No Ikwerre or any one whose majority of his people are Igbophobic should be part of Ohanaeze Ndiigbo if the organization is a serious one.

So you IPOB should stop quoting this Uche Okwukwu, because you are only underlying the failure of Igbo leadership as epitomized by Ohanaeze when you use Uche Okwukwu as example of Ikwerre being Igbo.
Funny enough, all these abokis/afonjas that are clapping for you guys are the first set of people to remind you that you are Nyamiri/Omoibo when the chips are down. For example, when you go to the north and casala burst for there, just stand on the road when they're killing to tell them, I am Uchechukwu from Ikwere. I no be Igbo, I am Igboid. Rubbish.

But the igbos on the other hand can be really overbearing....you stay in someone's land, he doesn't attack you or rape your wives because of tribal reasons, you do business in his land, he even sells land to you which even most SS won't even do, you even hold your traditional festivals in his land which you dare not do in places like kano, you prosper in his land but for some reason you see him as an enemy and turn around calling his land "no man's land".....

Igbos should really look inwards and refine somethings about themselves, there's a reason for the hate you get in South Africa, Ghana, Guinea and even your SS cousins...apart from this I hope they produce a credible leader come 2023 that would push for restructuring.

Ikwerre not being Igbo all depends on the Ikwerre you meet. An Ikwerre man and former Governor, Chibuike Amaechi, will tell the whole world that he is an Igbo man. Another Ikwerre Governor like Wike will say he is not Igbo

Meanwhile, an Ikwerre man called Uche Okwukwu is Ohanaeze Secretary general while another Ikwerre man called Elechi Amadi wrote a book to say Ikwerres are not Igbos

Its for Ikwerres to go and sort out whatever identity crisis that has engulfed them

And it's for the Igbos not to force there own tribe on others!

Maybe it is because of their "bad work ethics and temperament" maybe it is because of they are in another state (on this front I have seen people try to say Anioma are not Igbo but Anioma always say they are Igbo), but before 1969 anybody that will identify Igbo as an ethnic group will include Ikwerre there. Maybe as you said they just said they were Igbo for politics but similar things have happened like in Yorubaland, Egba didn't used to be called Yoruba but now are. Maybe the reverse happened with Ikwerre.

That’s because until recently there really wasn’t any one “Yoruba” (or Igbo) race; they were all—at least for the Yorubas—separate independent States.

Governor Wike have the right to his ethnic identity but must never forget that hating on the Igbo tribe does not in any way make us less Igbos.Ken Saro-Wiwa & the Ogonis made the same mistake but till today they are regretting it.

We must not agree in all things but there are some things that intersect all of us-oppression & marginalization by a common enemy

So your an igbo? Most of those attacking buhari are from that side

Are the Ibibios Igbos too? asking for a friend
I don't see them as ibo.i like their character anyways.
They work hard unlike the ikweres who believe because they have oil,oil that ondo state have, imo, abia, Delta all have oil but ikwere is the most useless group in southsouth,if they live in the same compound with you in Port Harcourt, they will refuse to pay nepa bill citing that they are indigenes.
And there is no oil in ikwere land,it's the ogonis and kalabaris that have the oil that ikwere are making noise on top.
Actually ikweres are igbos, their names betray them.
Why they are denying their ancestry is because of past grudges against the hinterlands pre colonial.
The second reason is political, denying ibo is the only card they will play to make their neighbors accept them.
They have been playing the kalabaris and ogonis since 1999,from Peter odili to wike were all igbos deceiving the kalabaris and ogonis.

There is nothing like THE IGBOID LANGUAGE. You are being derailed by the "Igbo" in Igboid". For your information English is a Germanic language but that is another story

The point is The term "Igboid" was introduced by Kay Williamson the foremost research authority on Igbo linguistic studies before her death.
Igboid is a family of languages which include Ikwerre and several Igbo dialects according to a classification established by Kay Williamson.
By a similar token English German and Dutch are Germanic languages.

Does that make the English or Americans German?

Does it make Nigerians German?

Ameachi is saying his lgbo because of his political ambition, offcause we know his trying to play smart for the lgbos to accept him.lkwerre is not lgbo,I have read so many articles about the history of the lkwerre tribe and all points to the fact that lkwerre people migrated from the ancient Benin kingdom. Their names and cultures are similar to lgbos because of the early contact with the lgbos and their fore fathers then married a lot of lgbo women.
So the Igbo women overpowered their husbands and started giving igbo names to their children till date.

Please you people should learn to lie logically
The Igbo women even erased their Benin culture and named their villages with igbo names
