World Diabetes Day takes place on the 14th November every year. It has grown from humble beginnings to become a globally-celebrated event which increases awareness about diabetes.

Comprising hundreds of campaigns, activities, screenings, lecture, meetings and more, World Diabetes Day is proving internationally effective in spreading the message about diabetes and raising awareness for the condition.


WHO INTRODUCED WORLD DIABETES DAY?
World Diabetes Day was jointly introduced by the World Health Organisation (WHO) and the International Diabetes Federation (IDF). The global diabetes awareness campaign was introduced amidst concern over an escalating diabetes epidemic.

WHY IS NOVEMBER 14TH WORLD DIABETES DAY?
November 14th is a significant date in the diabetes calendar because it marks the birthday of the man who co-discovered insulin, Frederick Banting. Banting discovered insulin in 1922, alongside Charles Best.

WORLD DIABETES DAY LOGO
The logo of World Diabetes Day is a blue circle, and this is recognised by hundreds of thousands of people with diabetes throughout the world.

World Diabetes Day (which is a separate from Diabetes Week, a UK-wide event) is a truly international event, and having a distinctive logo is an essential part of spreading the message about diabetes to as wide audience as possible.

BODY How Does Diabetes Affect The Body?


Knowing how diabetes affects your body can help you look after your body and prevent diabetic complications from developing.

Many of the effects of diabetes stem from the same guilty parties; namely high blood pressure, high cholesterol levels and a lack of blood glucose control.

SIGNS OF DIABETES
When undiagnosed or uncontrolled, the effects of diabetes on the body can be noticed by the classic symptoms of diabetes, namely:

Increased thirst
Frequent need to urinate
Fatigue
Blurred vision and Tingling or pain in the hands, feet and/or legs

LONG TERM EFFECTS OF DIABETES ON THE BODY


In addition to the symptoms, diabetes can cause long term damage to our body. The long term damage is commonly referred to as diabetic complications

Diabetes affects our blood vessels and nerves and therefore can affect any part of the body.

However, certain parts of our body are affected more than other parts.
Diabetic complications will usually take a number of years of poorly controlled diabetes to develop. Complications are not a certainty and can be kept at bay and prevented by maintaining a strong level of control on your diabetes, your blood pressure and cholesterol

Next time when diabetes gets hold of your loved one or relative, feed him with bitter things( e.g vinegar), you must avoid carbohydrate (e.g fufu, garri, indomie etc) at all cost.
The end product of carbohydrate is still sugar

Diabetes is a very deadly disease and it's not even receiving the much attention it should. I lost my mom to this disease.

It's just so sad my mum was diagnosed 6months ago....after going for treatment, she was told not to eat some particular food again, she abstained but after she was ok, she has returned to d food.....I told her and advised her against it but she told me she's ok now and can eat d food back...

Having tried for so many times to discourage her what she told me was that if she did not eat all these foods what will she be eating as no money to maintain d food recommended to her and I'm not financially ok now as I'm still a job seeker...

I'm just praying nothing should happen to her cos she's all I got

That's one of the major problems with managing diabetes; finance. One has to be financially bouyant to properly manage diabetes especially when it gets to advanced stage. The worst complications of diabetes is that neuropathy, where there is severe pains in the legs and the person would have to be on pain relief drugs. Bro tell your mum to as much as she can adhere to the diets.

I lost my mom 2 months ago to this disease, she is being in & out of hospital for the past 2 years...

To come to terms with reality that she is gone,I find it hard to believe it our house is cold & empty deeply troubling hmmmm!!!
