I think Next Rated is a voting category hence why that category has yielded enough disputes and fights over the years with unmerited artistes winning it. Think back to Burna Boy losing out to Sean Tizzle, Lil Kesh losing out to Reekado Banks and the ensuing war of words between Don Jazzy and Baddo Sneh, Fireboy DML losing out to Rema who had a lot of fans more than him, especially starry-eyed female teenagers.

Omah Lay should be the rightful winner of that category. The likes of Bella Shmurda & Cheque are worthy mentions that should equally win it if Omah Lay loses out. Zinoleesky, Bad Boy Timz and co are just to fill up the category.

But while I believe Laycon shouldn't win it, I disagree with you that he shouldn't be in that category. It's true that BBN platform and BBN fans gave him the fame that brought his album and songs to the limelight, but last I checked, how you got your fans or the platform you used doesn't count against any artistes in getting into that category. With an album with millions of streams on various music/video apps, you can't deny that Laycon has gotten his songs into airwaves, radio stations and various medias and households.

He has merited getting into that slot 100% but what I don't agree is that he'd win ahead of Omah Lay or Bella Shmurda and co. Sadly though, if Next Rated is by voting, I'm sad to say that Omah Lay MIGHT lose out because you can't trust humans, especially Nigerians, to leave behind sentiments and do the right thing. Laycon has got more online NAIJA fans than Omah Lay, and while Omah Lay might have more foreign and offline fans than Laycon, the online Naija fans are the ones that will hear about the voting and vote which might cause Omah Lay and others to lose out.

If Laycon enters that category and it's still by voting, forget it, only a miracle and common sense would stop Laycon winning. He's got the fans and hype to win him any award that has got to do with voting. Let's hope Headies uses their brains and employ professionals to judge that category.
