Oasis007: Corruption in Nigeria cuts across all corners. No region, tribe, or ethnicity is exempted Even the one that is being allocated to us, what exactly have they done with it? Bayelsa still owe salaries, despite having only 8 local governments and getting 13% derivation The only solution for Nigeria is for everybody to unitedly retire these 1960 thieves and their generations forever..and also start to hold any political servant accountable If we decide to scatter or practice regional autonomy, every region would just be keeping his or her own share of the thieves. Nothing changes I may be wrong sha 2 Likes |

Oasis007: Corruption, lack of accountability, ethnic inequity. Those are our major problems, probably in the order of importance. Division or autonomy would likely only lead to 6 banana republics instead of only 1 that we have now. |

Oasis007: You think it was different in Ghana? Why do many Nigerians go abroad and work for 20-30 yrs in private and public sector with clean records but come home and become corrupt? Lack of accountability. No repercussion or consequences for their crimes when they are back home. Corruption started from the top in Nigeria and if it will be cured it should also be cured from the top. If a group of young detribalized officers can delete the last 2 or 3 generations of politicians and generals that ruined the country it will start the long road back. 4 Likes |

R9 is the only other player that can hold his own against Messi when it comes to football in general...He scores, dribbles and creates chances at will. I still rate Messi just a bit higher cos of his longevity but prime R9 was just as good... 2 Likes |

Oasis007:GEJ was fortunate to be president after yaradua's death...and his boss had 7point agenda wch he had to follow to some extent and u can't be expecting him to restructure... besides,,northern powers were on him,,so he couldn't even do much for his own state rather he concentrated more on d North thinking it will favour him for a 2nd term,,unfortunately he couldn't return.. maybe he would have set d pace for restructuring in his 2nd term... so dat leaves us with only OBJ as d man who would have restructured,, instead he went about privatisation policy... Instead of privatization,,, he should have restructured,, dat would have been d way forward for Nigeria... wat do we have today? all privatised Institutions are failing,,, our refineries are not working and Atiku was still thinking of selling it instead of dem handing it over to states or regions and see wat can come out.... I still blame OBJ |

izzou:I don't fully agree with your take, Regional autonomy although will not turn Nigeria to an Eldorado of any sort but will breed healthy rivalry, and competition among regions for growth on terms of infrastructure and human development, Citizens from region A seeing the level of advancement in region will more inquisitive of their leaders and be more prudent with their choice of leadership. To some extent too partisan politics might have little to no influence in deciding political office holder. The short-lived period of Regionalism in Nigeria if carefully observed might give one more insight about this. |

schurley: Well, I think we would be putting the cart before the horse with your ideology. It's not that it isn't right, but it shouldn't be primary. Until we have a system, a structure that would make leaders accountable and ensure justice is served for corruption, we would be doing the same thing differently Lets assume that Zamfara has been keeping all their royalties from gold mining to themselves, how come the state isn't developed yet? How come Bayelsa still has underdevelopment written all over it? If we don't retire these old thieves and their gang, we would just be deceiving ourselves. That's one of the reasons I saw Jonathan's ConFab process as a joke. The same set of thieves were the ones representing their people, and that's what regional autonomy would produce too. Obasanjo would speak for the Ogun people Tinubu would speak for Lagosians Babangida would be the Father of those in Niger Uzor Kalu would speak for the people of Abia 3 Likes |
