This wicked diabetes killed my dad after 18yrs of battling with the disease making us sell all our properties & money. It is better to have Hiv than have diabetes at least u can get free drugs but with this useless disease it will make u go broke and u will still die cos it hasn't gotten any cure till date. |

Francisayo: Sorry to hear this but she really needs to make adjustment and diet change some of which are not so expensive. E. G Guinea corn meal for swallow and eating plenty vegetables. If she goes back to eating normal meals the diabetics might return and she would spend more money and time in treatment. So be strict with her. All the best. |
I lost my mum on Jan 3rd from complication due to diabetes In the last 6 months I have technically reversed mine by have a strict meal plan I eat Beans and plantain in the morning I eat fruits in the afternoon I eat sweet potatoes at Night. I jog for about 30mins. 3x weekly I take my drugs daily My sugar level now for fasting blood sugar is usually below 100mg And after meal about 120 or lesser I have also lost weight from 108kg to 98kg. I feel alive significantly. And I don’t eat sugary things anymore. I was addicted to it. In fact I have banned the 5 white poisons No rice No flour Low salt No sugar My mother is diabetic and I am trying to lose weight and avoid the same story. Do you do your fast blood sugar test yourself? 1 Like |

AIT1: I think about 10k So I need to address a false Mis conception generally that diabetes is expensive to maintain. Yes drugs like glucophage can cost about 8k or so. Diamicron 4k... But the best food actually are extremely affordable. Until last year. I used to listen to that crappy statement that it is expensive crap. I hired a cook and was blowing almost 200k monthly Now I spend less than 30k monthly. 15k on food. 15k on fish. And add 8k on olive oil. My most expensive food is roasted Titus fish. I just came back from the market. The 2 bags of sweet potatoes cost me 2k. And this is me in city center. I will easily eat this dinner meal for next 3weeks. A crate of egg is 1k and that can take me up to 1 week. Beans. Is very affordable. Also I use olive oil. You have to watch your blood pressure too. Also the general hospital have great diabetic support doctors. That give excellent advise. I think the real issue is whether you decide that you want to be hospitalized (by then it is becoming late as it could have affected organs like kidney ( which occurred in my mom case ) ) first or you want to deal with the ailment first

Hygizee:It's quite sad, man. I spent the little savings I had from my NYSC on my mum, because she was hospitalised for more than 3 months before died. This life no jus balance. Diabetes and cancer to me are the worst diseases ravaging humanity. 1 Like |

damola1:It's affordable when you start managing it early. But if ignored and the complications start, it's quite expensive to manage because then you'd be needing insulin shots. |
Re: Global Diabetes Compact: WHO Announces New Programme On World Diabetes Day by damola1: 6:51pm On Nov 14, 2020 |
Mekanus: Mine started showing up in my early 20s and now almost 13years later I am just sitting to get a grip of it. I was getting to almost 500mg when I was just forming ignoramus This is primarily the reason why I am sharing this detailed information so people can see that the earlier the better they catch it. Especially those with type 2 diabetes. They need to study the role of lifestyle in it. 1 Like |

True. But only by checking daily you can get some control and consequently know the type of foods you must avoid, quantity of food you should consume etc. 1 Like |

Re: Global Diabetes Compact: WHO Announces New Programme On World Diabetes Day by Hygizee(m): 7:13pm On Nov 14, 2020 |
Mekanus: thats it bro funily enough some people think it's not expensive to manage. When it 1st started we were buoyant and bought all drugs and food diet judiciously but as yr went by nd situation worsening we spent everything on hospital bills. 18yrs isnt 5yrs and as a business man if ur expenses exceed your gains sooner or later you will go bankrupt except you are a government worker who receives pension. 1 Like |

damola1: Thanks for the expository write up. If I had heard about glucophage and the other drug you mentioned, I would have bought them for my Mom. Although, before her death she was already on daily insulin shots. Her food was regulated just like you're doing now, however Mom could go to church fasting for days without eating. The last church session she had aggravated her and condition and she died. Always try to eat early and eat more of beans and vegetables. 1 Like |

Mekanus: My mom is diabetic and she has been suffering severe pains in her legs since 2months ago. Doctors have prescribed different pain relief drugs to her, but none is helping her condition. I don't know how to help her. She cries everyday due to the pain Please could you suggest any drug that could ease the pains? |
Re: Global Diabetes Compact: WHO Announces New Programme On World Diabetes Day by Mekanus(m): 6:30am On Nov 16, 2020 |
Topshow4real:We used Diclofenac then, the injectable one works very fast. But just know it doesn't cure the pain permanently, it just relieves it for the moment. Other non steroidal anti inflammatory drugs should work too. |
Re: Global Diabetes Compact: WHO Announces New Programme On World Diabetes Day by Topshow4real: 6:50am On Nov 16, 2020 |
Mekanus: She has taken diclofenac tablets, imbrufen, ciprofloxacin and anti inflammatory drugs, but the pain isn't relieving her at all. Where can we get the injectable diclofenac please? Now she can't walk, sit and sleep because of the pain. Her vision too is terrible because of this crazy disease, she could barely see. I'm really depressed because of her condition. She's really suffering |
