If the north were to have the oil in the south, I am very sure that the southern part of Nigeria will be highly neglected.
If the North had 1/10th of the oil in the south, there won't be a Nigeria nation to start with, They would singlehandedly kick the south out of the federation.

This is something we southerners know but our cowardly political elites pretend to be ignorant of.

We keep chasing shadows when the substantive issue is the Constitution (Section 44).

Nonetheless, state governments do not “grow crops or graze animals” - INDIVIDUALS/CORPORATIONS do!
Instead of moving control from the rent-seeking corrupt FG to rent-seeking even more corrupt state govts, move it to PRODUCERS!

That’s why I couldn’t be overly bothered about these resource control debates...
It’s essentially about moving stealing/corruption from Abuja to state capitals, and from one set of thieves to another.

Sadly, most Nigerians (leaders and the led) are obsessed about SHARING rather than PRODUCTION!

>

I agree with you on this.
The use of the farming and grazing examples was to get to what you said.
Thanks.

only oblivious people would have believed the rumor, the provisions of the constitution is cardinal.

Only an ignoramus will belief that the constitution of Nigeria was written for the benefit of Nigerians. It was written to cover up for the inevitable misdemeanor of the political class and punish anyone who dare challenge their almighty authority.

they just confirmed it that is true, they very well know Niger delta will never tolerate this injustice and evil. we have fed the poverty stricken republic of Nigeria for decades, our oil is what the life of all Nigerians is depended upon, SW poor, SE(1oil state), M.B poor, NE, NW poverty and dry. all of the poor regions depends on us for survival yet they promote this injustice and betrayal against us. we still have the memory of Isaac Adagaboro the Niger delta general who first raised move for actualization of Niger delta republic only for Hausa/Yoruba /ibo to join forces and kill him because of our oil now. now you poor lousy thieves are reaping what isn't yours but now I think the Niger Delta is reawakening, you guys will suffer for the treachery against the Niger Delta that has always fed your poverty states.

That's the truth. Southern politicians are just after their pockets. Very greedy set of people. They rather insult their people just to please the north. The juju the north use to control the southern region strong. Instead of the southern region to unite to fight for the Betterment of the region, they rather prefer to engage themselves in Igbo, cone head, ipob and afonja meaningless fight.

If you dont believe that's fine. If you have proof they're lying about giving them a license submit it. If you have proof other states were denied unfairly submit it. If CBN bought gold prove it. The governors are free to file there suits to prove all this. We'll see if they beat the FG in this matter.

.

The SS will be guided in their approach just like they have always been in resource control and derivation, their steps will be directed by the people of the region and the best of professionals in various fields and not by a brainless federal government saturated with all manners of spin Doctors....

Before I begin, let me state that I am from Edo state.

We mustn't blame anyone other than our leaders in the south for this.

Nothing stops oil producing states from setting up refineries to buy and process crude oil and then sell the refined products after which they remit royalty to FG. That's exactly what I believe Zamfara state has done. They applied for the relevant licenses to participate in the gold value chain.

Bottom line, southern states should position themselves anywhere they deem fit in the crude oil value chain and stop being passive stakeholders who just sit back and wait for allocation.

So instead of playing the victim, I believe we have something positive to learn from this unfolding episode.
It's not about buying refinery or processing crude oil. It is about the LICENSE to drill the oil and who is the facilitator of the drilling.

It was Zamfara govt that was the facilitator of their gold mining.

But the Niger Delta IS NOT allowed to facilitate the drilling of their own gold. That is to say, if Chevron or Total or anybody wants to drill oil in 9ja Delta, they just go through the FG, the State has no say. The FG allocates oil blocs, oil fields etc. So the FG is the facilitator. The State can only tax those companies for operating in their area. But who drills the oil, how they drill it, how long they drill it, what they do with whatever they drill out, the Niger Delta States has no say.

Do you know Osun State has its own gold and more gold deposits than even Zamfara. Did you ever hear of Osun State mining their own gold? The FG is the direct facilitator of gold mining in Osun. But they allowed Zamfara to mine their own gold, and then CBN bought the gold from Zamfara. Even the Deputy Speaker who is an APC member raised a motion on the ILLEGALITY of this Buhari regime fraud. The height of tribalistic nepotism.

We'll see when that day comes. The solution is simply devolve this matter to concurrent list and allow individuals the rivht to own land and natural resouces instead of the FG exclusively.

One chilled bottle of beer for you! you understood the tricks in this logic.
The Zamfara government fronts so Called unregistered artisanal criminals to mine FG gold on their behalf, while same is considered crime in South South.
When eyebrows are raised, they are now diverting everyone's attention with licence and all what not.

When Zamfara mined their own gold, the Buhari regime called it PRESIDENTIAL ARTISANAL GOLD MINING DEVELOPMENT INITIATIVE and CBN paid N5 billion for the gold.

But when Niger Delta mines their own oil, the Buhari regime calls it ILLEGAL BUNKERING and they send their army there to arrest and jail those involved and destroy their facilities.

Has anyone heard of the federal government denying any state license to do the same thing? If the ss governor have an issue the supreme court will always be there to settle it.

Correct! I don't know why prople are do desperate to create unnecessary rancor, amd. Infusion, when the message is obviously clear...

Zamfara state does nit owe the Gold in Zamfara, it only buy from licemced miners.... Gold is being mined in other parts of Nigeria for years no one is making any noise...

People should do well to research before jumping into conclusion..

how can they be mining as individuals and oil communities can't sell a cup of oil as indigenous explorers? this country is going down if resource control is not given to all communities,it has started

Most are simply too dense to read and research before commenting. They highly emotional people with perpetual victim mentality. Other commenters already pointed out states doing same in oil industry but that probably wont matter either.

If Zamfara "artisanal miners" can be recognized and allowed to operate like legitimate business outfits, "oil bunkerers" in the Niger Delta should also be allowed to operate unhindered. . That means soldiers should stop shooting at local folks that are branded oil thieves for helping themselves with the resources found in their land... Folks from oil producing areas should start oil and gas exploration whenever they want without licenses and sell to NNPC?

Folks, this government is evil! You can see the kind of argeument being churned out to defend evil. Rather than implement the law, Buhari is shifting the goalpost once again! The biggest problem with Buhari is his inherent inability to call a spade a spade, whenever the culprits are from his tribe/zone/party, dude starts to speak in tongues! The man will rather run from pillar to post, Scanvenging for excuses, rather than allow the law take it's full course! Buhari and his likes should never have been anywhere near a presidential house!

The best thought out response to the topic. You deserve a very cold bottle of beer.

Ironically the legitimate "artisanal miners" in the Niger Delta are the northern elite. Can any artisan from the south (irrespective of tribe) dare mine gold in Zamfara state?

Exactly! They just agreed the former proceeds from that gold was used in exchange for arms and ammunitions. Won't it be right to conclude the facilitators of the illegal mining are complicit in terrorism?
Nigeria as a country is just a big fat joke.

We are talking about permission to drill and you are talking about buying. Are the illegal miners buying to refine and sell or they are mining to sell?

But modular refineries are doing same thing in the oil sector. Buy, refine and sell.

The issue of oil is what is on the table. If the FG has total control of hydrocarbons, why is Zamfara in charge of gold?
Your 'get off your butt' retort is symptomatic of shortsightedness and ignorant of the indomitable nature of the human spirit.
This onesided way of doing things that favours only the north will explode catastrophically, unless the imbalance is addressed. Don't assume that it will continue unchallenged forever.

This piece lacks coherence and cohesion. As much as attempt is being made to illuminate on the issue, it hasn’t broached the bone of contention.
It doesn’t capture the issue that led to the highbrow raised by Oil producing states. Will the government permit the same for Oil regions in Nigeria?

Of course many would prefer to believe in fake news and rumors than listen to the facts. I see the above information as the fact and can be further pursued and fully verified. But for those whose objective is the to cause mayhem, hatred and destruction, the fake news from unknown sources are sweeter .

The only thing this administration is good at is to coverup. I watch the presentation of gold by zamfara state governor to buhari live on NTAi and i heard it clearly wen he said d federal government through CBN is buy the gold is zamfara for 500billion and the CBN will sell liecence gold to mining companies with internation standard in gold mining. Why are they trying to coverup now after the meeting by the governors of all oil producings states.

No , some part of the country has asked for it peacefully in the past but they were treated with lethal force and called criminals. The FG should start from there if they're sincere then the rest part of the country will separate peacefully.
