Fabuloski: Hello, I also did industrial chemistry and wanted to go for chemical engineering but the school I mailed said I will have to take some prerequisite course of some graduate courses and the courses will be paid for which can be expensive but if you're seeking a fully funded degree I would advise you stick with chemistry as you will get good funding. This is all I know tho someone else can know better. 1 Like |

Fabuloski: Please, stick with PhD chemistry. You have great chance of ease of admission and funding, with your profile. 3 Likes |

You are a smart guy so please be smart with this issue. A lot of schools offer Chemical Engineering, check like 20 of them particularly the prerequisites. If you don't meet up with the prerequisites, it should tell you that you might not qualify in most schools. If you end up applying, you might be denied or asked to take those prerequisites at your own expense. Fabuloski: 1 Like |

Fabuloski: From what I noticed this year, funded Chemistry admission is easier to secure than Chemical Engineering. Also, the number of schools offering MSc and PhD in Chemistry is more than that of Chemical Engineering. It is better you stick to Chemistry at least for now. It seems to be easier pathway right now. My opinion though |

Walesherbey: Thank you for your response, it's not like I am making a switch directly to Chemical Engineering. 90% of my application is for Chemistry Ph.D. I just want to risk adding 1 or 2 chemical engineering program since I won't mind doing it if offered. 1 Like |

Fabuloski:I also studied Industrial Chemistry and wanted to apply to Chemical Engineering graduate programs as well but the chances were slim even though I took quite a number of Chemical Engineering courses during my undergraduate study. Try Ohio State University though. But try also to find another branch of Chemistry you're more passionate about. Industrial Chemists tend to like Analytical Chemistry and Nanochemistry. Just take your time and make your research properly. Your profile is strong. Cheers |

Since it is like a Plan B, you can try University of Alabama. Earlier this year, one of their Professors tweeted about looking for grad students Fabuloski: |

EmeritusR: The first thing you need to do after you've been sent your I20 is to pay your sevis fee. It is after then you can go ahead to fill your Ds160 form and pay visa fee. then send an email to the Lagos consulate asking for an expedite interview state reasons why should be considered and attach your I20 and sevis fee receipt. |

Fabuloski: If you took undergraduate courses on thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, etc. you could gamble on 1 or 2 chem. engineering applications. Look at the University of Utah. Just make sure to check the prerequisites carefully. If you decide to focus on chemistry, I'd suggest you look at energy storage. This is an exciting area due to the transition towards cleaner energy. I'm an engine guy though.... 2 Likes |

pompeiimagnus:Thermodynamics, yes. Fluid mechanics not so much, unless rheology of polymers count Sha. However, can't they use other materials to determine this thing, correct me if I am wrong but 90% of Thermodynamics and Fluid mechanic is abstract mathematics, which won't be a problem for someone will a good mathematics background. |
Re: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 15 by pompeiimagnus: 10:08pm On Nov 17, 2020 |
Fabuloski: Yeah, with a solid Maths background you should fit in well. It all depends on how firm the program is towards those prerequisites - because of the Graduate level expectations...There are some Nigerians studying chemical engineering at the University of Toledo. You could reach out to them on LinkedIn too. 1 Like |

Good day dear nairalanders. I'm completely new and would need your counsel my elders. I just got admission with Wright State University for MSc in biomed enginering, To start Jan 11th. Its so short a notice for me to wrap up work issues and apply and get a visa. My plans were that the Spring admission would be in March or so. However, if I can tidy up work and other domestic issues, my questions: 1) How possible is it for me to obtain a visa before my orientation start date of 5th Jan 2) How can iI be better prepared for a successful interview. 3) If i choose to defer, what are the implications especially with scholaarship obtained? Note, I was given about 1/3rd tuition scholarship and I have only my 1year total fee( balance of tuition + living expenses) in my account as I am self sponored. Thanks and awaiting your propmt response |
