The SS governor's will have a hard time convincing anyone , because the Nigerian government can easily claim that the SS receives 13% extra.
The government can even buttress their points by claiming that some states produce oil without receiving any derivations eg Anambra, and yet Anambra is not complaining
You are just saying your own part, there are international laws to everything, as far as it is the leaders of that region and there's a legal petition it can cause a hurt to crude oil drilling at the moment, it can cause a uproar and Las Las your silly Nigerian government will come to the table. Ordinary militants they Bleep their ass to negotiate talk of ss leaders.

How much of Nigerian oil wealth is onshore though. Because I think up to 70% are offshore on the Atlantic ocean.
Nigeria only claim them because of Nigeria land mass which North contribute a greater part of.

If the Niger Delta were to exist as an entity without the rest of Nigeria, she would lose most of the oil they are currently receiving allocation in form of 13% derivation for. Especially Akwa ibom state, as countries like Gabon, equatorial Guinea, Cameroon, etc will have a claim to those offshore oil fields.

So the northern land extends into the Atlantic ocean, last time I checked, their land extends into the arid Sahara desert, many lies are made to be truth to favour the north just like your 1999 constitution, dont you know that if Nigeria breaks up, the north will not have access into the Atlantic ocean, so what is the connection bw the northern land have with the Atlantic ocean?

Please Oga.
This is strictly SS. It has nothing to do with other part of the South.

SS got snubbed by the presidency, its that simple, it happens, its not the end of the world. Their leaders should go to their private meetings and restrategize. Its all regions for themselves.

I'm sure if it comes down to it, the entire country will vote against moves by SS governors to have more share of "our oyel" national cake to themselves. The 13% derivation they have is good enough advantage, there should be no more especially now that crude oil revenue isn't as great as before.

Any SS governor or person not comfortable with current state of things know what to do.

If you read carefully through what the guy posted, you'll realise that you're the one not seeing the big picture here. The simple point the guy you quoted made was that what happened to south south could as well happen to south east and south west. Buhari does not care about the south and southerners ! You need to check out the facts on ground ! What we have now is government of the North, by the North and for the North only !

You don't understand it.
The distance to the sea a country can claim is directly proportional to its land mass.

If you remove the North land mass, many of the current oil fields accrued to Niger Delta will be either lost or shared with other littoral nearby countries like Cameroon,Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, etc.

I think SE should join hands with the North to work for abolition of 13% derivation for offshore oil fields currently being practiced and replace it with only 13% onshore derivation.
And such inshore derivation should be paid to LGA account directly with the towns and villages in the LGA that produce the oil entitled to a lion share of the fund in form of projects. This is a better template than the current one where we have some people shouting "Our Oyel" while in true sense, their own ethnic group or community produce no single drop of oil.

With the above we protect the interest of Igbo communities like Obiigbo and Egbema, and ensure they directly control their resources.

I support this argument. Akwa-Ibom for instance is enjoying the largese of offshore oil on the Atlantic and this is wrong. The oil in the territorial waters of Nigeria should go to the federal account while the onshore oil must be sent directly to an independent and private agency that would allocate to the oil bearing communities monies gotten from their land.

They will be accountability and these monies rather than find their way into corrupt government officials will be monitored and used in the host communities it was made for. This is what the SE parliamentarians should help push in the national assembly and not shouting Biafra up and down with miscreants.

If there's accountability, then we won't have to enrich ex-militants under the guise of amnesty but the communities themselves. Developments, roads, companies and investments meant for my community in Egbema will not have to go to River State account or the NDDC but come directly to us.

You will only block the onshore wells and pollute your environment blowing things.

States like Akwa ibom will have nothing to block
Nigeria will simply focus on offshore oil fields far away in the Atlantic and sink any militant boat that comes near.

Very wonderful suggestion.

The map of Rivers state doesn't include the Atlantic ocean territory. I think this issue is worth pursuing.

So first of all, oil and gas resources extracted from the Atlantic ocean should rightly belong to the federation.

Secondly, the inland oil and gas resources should be weighted in favour of the LGAs and communities, they're extracted from. I believe this is fair, and should be pursued vigorously.

Any region that has this point of view should be partnered with, so that it can be achieved. This will help bring in more money to the central government coffers, and so ensure that the real oil bearing communities are well taken care of.

The north will not have access into the Atlantic ocean but Gabon and Equatorial Guinea, have huge access to the Atlantic, and will be justified to stake their claims on a good chunk of the offshore oilfields, since the Igboland, and northern land masses are no longer attached, to qualify you for the offshore oil fieds claims.

In such a situation, Igbos may back the Equatorial Guinean claims especially as Igbo is a recognized indigenous ethnic group of the country.

The bold is a good suggestion.
It would end the marginalization of Obiigbo and Egbema by Igbophobes like Wike whose community produces no ounce of crude oil yet shouts "Our Oyel" on top of oil on other peoples land.
It will make sure communities in Ibeno, Eastern Obolo, Ikot abasi who produce onshore oil in Akwa ibom have lion share of the money and not have an Annang/Ibibio man whose community produces no single drop of oil be shouting "Our Oyel" up and down and once he occupies the state government house siphons the funds to build up Uyo(Ibibioland) or Ikot Ekpene( Annangland) , while Ibeno, Obolo and Ibibios in Ikot Abasi look on.

The same is applicable to Abia state and Imo state where Ukwa West that produce all the oil has nothing to show for it, while someone from far away Bende sitting in Umuahia government house uses the money the state made from Ukwa west oil wells to tar roads in Umuahia and Igbere town.
Likewise communities in Ohaji/Egbema/Oguta communities in IMO who produce the state oil wealth which some people stay in Douglas house and use it to start building up Owerri up down.

I don't think many people including the ones shouting "Our Oyel" are ready for this resource control conversation.
Because when we look well, even within the SS States, many people and groups are leeches feeding fat on the "real" oil producing communities in their own state.

The very idea of some states making billions on crude oil found in territorial waters of Nigeria in the name of offshore derivation is fraudulent and should be challenged and rescinded.

Derivation should only work for onshore oil fields and should be paid to a private agency who would partner with "real" oil producing villages and their families and disburse the money according to the amount of oil each family land produce.
That's the real resource control. It should be on family and then community (villages and towns basis ), the governors of the state such crude oil field is found on should have no access to such funds.

This will serve justice for all and free up more funds from the offshore oil fields currently unfairly enjoyed by few states , for all States of the federation to enjoy.

SE should partner with the North to push for this.
Politics is all about interests.
5 SE states plus 19 Northern states, that's 24 states. It would be a flawless victory and win win for all. More funds available to be shared to non oil producing States from the offshore oil fields account( Which will benefit SE and the North) as we are not littoral), and funds directly made available to Real oil producing communities, villages and families in onshore producing States.

The idea of making the onshore funds available to communities directly producing the oil and not for state government would also divide communities in Bayelsa, Rivers and Rivers where the bulk of the onshore oil fields are found as oil producing communities would vote for the idea, while in the leeches hiding behind other peoples oil they share same state or LGA with , to shout "our Oyel" will protest, making for a divided house and easy victory for those of us on the side of Justice. cool

This is true justice. I was disappointed to observe how squalid, Oyigbo LGA looked during the recent massacre, and probably still looks, in spite of the fact that it produces huge amounts of oil.

Your proposal is beyond reproach, I must say. This should be the Igbo interest oil-wise. This is exactly what resource control should mean to Ndigbo.

The slight adjustment I will make is this. With regards to the derivation, I am proposing a sharing formular of this nature, families get 30%, communities get 30%, LGAs get 20%, state governments get 20%.

The funds should be disbursed from an Escrow account or a Brokerage

Wonderful idea, especially the sharing formular.

This is exactly what resource control should be all about.
Do this and there would be no need for ministry of Niger Delta or NDDC where people embezzle funds without the real oil producing communities and families getting a dime.

Obiigbo has really suffered in Rivers state.
