IGP: Nigerians Have Lost Confidence, Trust In Us by ijustdey: 9:18pm On Nov 18, 2020
The Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, has said the loss of confidence between the Police and the Nigerians was one of the major challenges hampering effective discharge of the Force responsibility.

He said introduction of community policing was part of the efforts aimed at rebuilding the lost confidence.

Adamu, who was represented at a policy dialogue on policing organised by the House of Representatives to collate views on a bill to amend the Police Service Commission act by DIG Olushola Oyebande, said management of the Police was working on regaining public trust.

He said: “We all know that constitutionally, the police have legal rights to live and legally speaking, the constitution guarantees a position where they can even use their fire arms to defend themselves when the situation demands.

“Within all that, we have asked them not to do anything that will bring colossal loss to members of the public.

“Going forward, there’s a lot of confidence building mechanism that’s being put in place to retrain the police to bring back confidence.

“Now a major problem is lack of confidence between the police and members of the public.

“That’s why the present administration came up with community policing and we are trying to see how it will work.

“It’s the best form of policing and a global phenomenon. I was part of the team that went to do the research.

“There’s a lot of distrust and disconnect between the police and the public. So the community policing will try to bring this into focus and to bridge that gap.

“It’s going to be community driven and problem solving. We want to involve the community, the locals to be part of policing of the area.

“They know the culture, the language, topography and that’s why we’re having the community policing initiative to train the locals to join us. So we don’t prevent proactive policing, rather than being reactive.”

He is just coming to terms

Shebi he was talking tough.

No single word on using police cars to bring thugs to attack #EndSARs protesters.

No word on confirmed videos of police killing unarmed people in broad day and shaking themselves after.

No arrest of a known thug that attacked #EndSARs protesters.

The police have lost the trust completely.

And if they don't retrace their steps.

Any unrest in Nigeria, they will always bear the blunt.

Let him not investigate his men and apologise to Nigerians.

This IG is even occupying the position illegally

He should proceed on retirement already.

When a Nigerian sees a policeman, instead of seeing a saviour or a hero, he sees a thief, a dishonest rogue, a murderer, a tomentor who would not hesitate to lay false allegations so as to profit from same.

It has become a norm for donkey years and the IGP should stop pretending he didn't know about the rot in the police system.

@ bolded.
Who and who agreed that community policing is the best form policing? What happened to state police that is apparently the best practiced all over the world.

Community policing is a northern idea in defiant to agitated states police which captured restructuring of the country.

Northerns keep postponing their doomsday.

You cannot lose what you don't have. We've never had confidence in you at all. Oga IGP, just respect yourself and resign. We will *NEVER* have confidence in the police as long as you are in charge

OK
That one dey
The problem of the police is with their top hierarchy that are not sincere, the NPF is not only under funded and equip, the little funding it got the big high ranking officer shares it among themselves leaving the low officers to source for finances to perform their duties, the road block officers fuel their vehicle, repair their vehicle, make returns to the office, for an IPO to do his work he will need to collect money from a complainant to buy case file, charter car for arrest etc, while it now seems that police is not working is that the officers are now afraid to request this money from the public to perform their duty so they just ignore doing their constitutional work cos the authority provided none

We never had confidence in police. When you have a case, if they will work at all, you need to get top politicians involved and provide the resource for them. To work.

In 2020, you hardly see a well organised police station. No database of citizens, no computers, just block wall and jazz.
