That's effect of poor journalism in Nigeria...Dewormer is a general name there are different classes of Dewormer drug with different application, MOA, and adverse effects.

The headline is attention grabbing,so it is presented in a way to grab your attention.

If the drugs are administered as required, there shouldn't be any issue.

The two pupils affected are from the same compound. One has a history of diarrhea at the hospital... I'm looking at cholera, not deworming drugs

An autopsy should be carried out and then the result will determine if it is the drugs or not. That is the only option here, you can't just go about speculating that it is cholera when there is no evidence backing the claim up.

My brother's daughter who attends Lisabi Grammar School in Abeokuta also managed to get home from school when she took the deworming drug.
She hasn't gone to school for two days now, though she didn't vomit but she was assisted by her friends to get home as she became very weak.

Those kids definitely died from complications from that drug.
If they investigated very well, some of those pupils from that school must have fell sick and absent from school. That nobody reported a case doesn't mean it didn't happen.

rip to the two pupils. do gastrointestinal issues kill? I do have recurrences of diarrhea myself and doctors have suspected gastrointestinal issues with symptoms like indigestion, diarrhea, constipation and stomach pain.

the parents should sue the FG/State Govt for indiscriminate administer of medications without knowing the health condition of the pupils first. They should get compensations too and governments will learn their lesson.

Ogbeni gastrointestinal issues kill...it's the leading cause of death in children and infant..the question is what is the cause of that gastrointestinal issue? There are different causes

Mr! no let me vex for you oh. Are you a beneficiary of the largesse this useless govt always share to their corrupt cohorts? why are you hell bent on defending the indefensible?

Is it when 50 or possibly all the kids who took the drug die that you'll hold somebody culpable for the deaths?

Like I said earlier, without autopsy the cause of death can not be verified. Until then, everything is speculation borne of inference and the inference in this case is pretty clear; deworming medication.

This is just preposterous!, I can't even begin to understand why it's now the government job to dewarm children... The govt killed those children, they have no right to forcefully dewarm people's children for them. There are plenty of more reasonable and pressing matters to tackle like providing jobs for the parents of those children. angry
This govt is crushing my nerves at every Wake... Foolish clueless unreasonable corruption infested people lipsrsealed (spits)

The parents should have been approached for approval in the form of signed forms.
The administration of any drug should be voluntary. It's not rats we are dealing with.

The parents should sue their asses off. Oh I wish this was a western country, they will be able to pay for their actions but here the parents will have to accept it as an act from God after crying their eyes out and the negligence of these stupid people will not be brought to book.

The death of the kids is unfortunate and a huge loss to their parents but this reaction is just sentimental.

If it was a western country like you referred to, a proper autopsy will be done before any verdict is reached.

But in this case, the relatives of the casualties are not agreeing to an autopsy.

If there is no autopsy which indicts the drug, there is no case. Evidence always wins over speculations.

More reason why homeschooling is the way to go...you just can't tell what a maniac will order your kids to swallow while you are away. If the child were taken to a hospital and checks were done before administering a drug this shit could have been avoided.

Hello sir/ma ,

If you have kids at school or not yet old enough to be at school....

Please, avoid all forms of injections (example: child immunization) drugs from any government health facilities.

I guess, they are on strike .

The dirty ones persisted and continued to work illegally.

Definitely, your kids are being injected with either

1. Expired drugs

2. Cheap/locally made drugs sold at black market suppliers (same way people started producing sanitizers during COVID-19 lockdown)

3. Wrongly stored drug (there's one that spoils within hours if exposed to sunlight or if you don't put a chilled water on it).

4. Drugs not supplied from the proper government agencies.

They are not wicked.

They just want to earn money to feed their family for that day instead of begging/stealing.

Here's my suggestion:

Always go to well known , registered private hospitals than the local ones.

For instance , its better to visit 'Living word hospital' and pay higher amount for quality service than to go to 'Akpamu community development health infrastructure clinic' and pay peanuts for your death.

A mother that neglected this had her baby injected at a cheap price .

Now, she's running around with more money trying to cure her baby's SWOLLEN LAPS that was the aftermath of the cheap care.

Anyway....

I need to make sales today.

I sell grammaly premium accounts and other quality softwares .

Grammarly would correct all those errors in your projects, reports, term papers, job/business letters, etc.

It features a plagiarism check tool that tells if your work is original or has been copied by someone else.

Give me a call/message now to get yours.
(Details in my signature)
Point of correction ---they are wicked! Some of them know that people could die from wrong usage of drugs, but they still go ahead to poison people with drugs.

I lost my dad due to drug misuse caused by a quack nurse who administered wrong and deadly drug on him. Just recently, I almost lost a cousin due to wrong combination of drugs from a quack patent medicine vendor that caused her heart to start mis-firing until I intervened. The list is endless!

Due to poor regulation, drugs in this country kill more people than we know, but the government isn't doing much to stop the ugly trend.

Albenazole and mebendazole are quite simple to use..
Children above 2 years use the same dose as adults..
Why those between 12 months and 2 years take half the adult dose.
It's not advisable to deworm a child below 1 year.

The deaths were very likely not caused by the deworming drug.

Recording 2 casualties out of over 200 pupils who received the drug is not convincing enough to say the drug was the cause. Deworming medications are well-tolerated by both children and adults.

Moreso, the two children who died lived in the same compound. The plausible explanation is that they were both exposed to an infectious pathogen days or hours before that day whose onset of signs/symptoms coincided with the day they took the deworming drug.

The only way to know what happened for sure is through an autopsy but as usual, people are already getting sentimental about the matter.

Let's pray it's not cholera as suspected because if it is, occupants of that vicinity are in danger.

No need for long sentences. What gave the government or school any right to administer any drug on children without parental consent?

You've indicted the teachers already. Where did they or the government got the right from to administer drugs on minors without parental consent?

Read the story well aunty!!!

Out of 235 pupils, only two(from the same compound) were affected. One of the two had a history of diarrhea. The well in the compound should be checked.

Oga, who gave the school or government right to administer drugs on minors without parental consent? This should be your primary concern, not the lame statistics you're trying to point out.

No insult given.

Your POV which tacitly endorses the administration of drugs on minors with total disregard to medical history and parental consent is an insult to enlightened sensibilities.

Oh, quit the grammar bla bla...makes you sound weak hommie...

My POV points out a clue about the well water and the diarrhea susceptibility of one of the kids. Since they both stay in the same compound and suffer similar fate, while none of the other kids did, my POV is maybe the drugs didn't do that but cholera. More investigation is needed of course..

Its really not my fault that you got emotional bro.

I don't understand how laziness would prevent you from reading and still go ahead to make uninformed comment about the write up.

The same drug you called expired was given to over 200 pupils and only those 2 who happened to live on the same street were affected.

If it were to be a case of expired drugs, what about the other 198 pupils that took the same drug? Why didn't the drug affect them?

When ikorodureporta created the news, he only dropped the link and the topic. He wrote nothing. I wrote all I did due to the headlines. It was after several hours that he modified and wrote all he did up there. Don't be quick to judge.

I'm as savage as they come. Keep the tough talk underneath your underdeveloped sense of judgment.

Your POV is only a reflection of your cognitive limitations. The first pertinent question on this issue is "who gave them teachers authority to administer drugs on minors?" Everything else is secondary.

I believe your dysfunctional sense of judgment comes from your exposure to perennial societal abuse.
