Rugaria: You need to do more research about the local rice available. There are indeed very good brands of Local rice...my wife buys a particular brand called Umza... very good and free from stones. We haven't eaten imported rice in my house since last year. Local rice all the way. By the way...a lot of eateries use local rice for their meals...do your research 2 Likes

TruthinAction: Which is technically easier for Nigerians to produce (food or automobiles?) The government is doing the right thing by adjusting automobile import levies so importers can ship in agricultural equipment that will create more low/high capitalist agropreneurs to stimulate the dying economy, as more jobs mean more corporate and wage taxes. Setting up an automobile factory is capital and technically intensive, so any government stimulus in that sector is a long term investment circa 20yrs and that requires the energy and steel mining sectors to be fully efficient. Opening the borders for tomatoes paste from Togo is very unwise as there are many Nigerian investors waiting for yield farming sector to jumpstart. |

This Buhari govt is very tribalistic and anti-people. All in a desperation to cover up for the failure of customs under his paddy, they closed land border and now want to kill the local auto industry which is southerners dominated. Same govt gave Fowler the boots for not meeting up his KPI at FIRS while they pamper their own Hameed who has failed woefully at customs. The matter of this car import duty underscores the readiness to sacrifice anything and anyone to get the badly needed funds which have become dire due to their mismanagement of our resources and most importantly our forex. Why don't they lift the ban on cement for example or rice so that importation can increase if that's what they really want to achieve? Instead of Customs to think out of the box about how to improve their revenue generation, they are prepared to sacrifice the auto industry to satisfy their cash lust. Shameful!! |

Rugaria: How is it going to bring more revenue when forex demand would hit the roof and further drag down dwindling foreign reserves? What about the assembling plants? Don't they pay taxes? You will lose that, new job creation and even plunge Naira value with persistent scarcity due to potential high demand for the US dollar. Made in Nigeria, patronise locally made goods goes out if the window. However, these were not the reason the whole policy was adjusted. It was to reduce cost of transportation of farm produce and ease food item prices, the whole policy is a joke. Purchase is one off, what about maintenance and sustainability? What about rising fuel price and costs (spare parts and services)?. This is another poor policy!. 1 Like |

Rugaria: Chasis can be made locally, but procuring engines is the bigger issue. But producing different brands and product line that fit into Nigeria needs is better than trying to mimic foreign brands. Look at Philippine they see that Tricycle will work for their people and they make it happen 1 Like |

I knew thing will get bad in Nigeria and they will some day realize that when they banned importation of used cars they closed the gate to a lot of wealth and forex transfer into the country. The change in policy is at a desperate time and will not guarantee anything. The need to make port operations easy and transparent in the first place, so people and export and import with ease 1 Like |

olaboy1: I don't just know how and what to say. U will not understand the untold hardship people are going through because you are not there. The foreign rice we are trying to prevent from coming in still finds its way in through illegal routes and settlement of security personnel. The result is high prices which automatically pushes up the price of the local rice and other food items. Our porous borders will not make any policy that has to do with border closure work. This is my point. Things were much better before the closure. Our local rice producers should just get into competition and produce rice at a cheaper and affordable rate. 1 Like 1 Share |

I wonder what help you want from God when Nigerian Christians got up and left their houses in 2015 to go vote for the worst religious bigot to ever run this country. Then when a few of them got sense 3yrs later they realised that the man had ensured removing him by election would be impossible. Leave God alone from the outcome of foolish personal decisions. Just receive Grace to carry the cross of both Buhari and his morally depraved Media Crew whose fake monikers number in their hundreds here and everywhere online. We that knew what was coming got prepared. By the way Dollar will cross N1000 long before this govt is done with you. Niger Republic is being built up with the wealth of Nigeria. That's the goal. These BMC's on here will suffer also as their stipends will not rise enough to beat inflation. That's the least of their coming woes anyway Acjohn: |
