Neddstark:If it's coming from UK then it's true because they obviously help him out. See they did not force gowon to loot his country but they knew such amount of money will be good for their economy, so they will help him out. 1 Like |

Neddstark: We love to believe the worst in people. In those days, we have corruption and was rather mild compared to what we have today. You don't even need to be corrupt to make money. Many you halo as Head of State will give you largesse and that's the truth. He also came back from exile broke. More importantly, no one is asking for his head on a plate if he was as corrupt as alleged. 1 Like |

uncleinans: True! This is one of the reasons why Gowon keep shifting the power transition then. The "black gold money" was just like money ritual. Even Gowon tried coming back to power, after Muritala's death. 1 Like |

BafanaBafana: You are not even close to the reader that I am... So, don't even go there!!! Who wrote those things??! God or angels??!... Leave matter!!! I stand by my statements... If we have had honest and transparent leaders, even for just 4 years, the transformation of this nation especially her economy will not only be amazing but reverberate for decades. The nation has declined economically since 1960, and you all are here trying to make cases for statesmen you adore, while the truth stares you right in the eye. 3 Likes |

Yes! remember the 10 years of Nigeria Independent by Sam Amuka Kpemu aka Sad Sam the then editor of Nigerian Sunday Times. See: Ten years of Independent ; "Oil flowed blood flowed the men of the people chop until the redeemer of the people came but ALAS! we just exchanged monkey for baboons"; and that was how Gowon sacked and removed Sad Sam from The Nigeria Daily Times Newspaper. See the Sunday Times: second week of October 1970 . |

ednut1: Figure of speech. Have you heard it before? The west will enable corruption since the owners of the money are too clannish, tribal and myopic to bother. |

uncleinans: IBB looted we know. Abdulsalam did too but was overlooked by Obasanjo then because he gave way to democracy. There are records of that. See I did not say Gowon was a saint. I know he has big money for him to be part of IGI and some big companies in Nigeria. My point is half the central bank is a very strong allegation. There may need to be some proof for this. |

ibietela2: That figure was exaggerated. Nigeria civil war death toll shouldn't be more than 500,000. Just the way people will come and say Nigeria is 200 million population, without conducting genuine census, but if you use other indices you see that Nigeria is not up to 160 million people. 2 Likes |

fredylee: Abacha died while in office. Did he steal all the monies after his death? Was he buried with billions of dollars in his coffin so he can deposit it in foreign banks from hell? Did he know he was going to die? You don’t deserve clarifications. 3 Likes |

AfroKnight: During the conflict, there was a time Gaddafi indicated that they will do elections and transform the country into a democracy. NATO rejected, the rebels knowing they have foreign backing rejected. Now here is Libya, a failed state with 3 different governments. Some regions in Libya are controlled by Warlords. As we speak, there is a movement in Sirte to bring back the previous Green Flag under Gaddafi. I am not against a revolution. But a bloody one is just going to be an opportunity for bloodbath in Africa. Imagine if Mandela wanted a bloody revolution you thing SA would be any better? 1 Like |

Neddstark: You are sounding like you know how much our CBN then worth. Do you know that OBJ inherited a little less than two billion in Nigeria reserve? What if Nigeria CBN then was worth 2b and this guy (Gowon) stole 1b? The way Abdulsalam emptied Nigeria CBN and left nothing for OBJ, we could as well say Abdulsalam stole Nigeria CBN. 1 Like |

Hypocrites! Seriously? Gowon took the money to the UK more than 50 years ago and the morons are just revealing that now? This idiot is unwittingly indicting the UK and UK banks as accessories to criminality. That the UK is the devil himself! But we know better, Gowon did NOT steal and could not have stolen any money given the circumstances of his ouster from government and the fact that the Federal Military Government at the time he was a student in the university in the UK paid for his boarding and school fees after a lot of pressure. This mumu needs to give us more proof of this imaginary pilfering by Gowon; Where and when was the money stolen? Before the OAU meeting in Ethiopia or after? Where did he warehouse the money? In a bank? Which bank? His University dormitory? Under his bed? Gowon had only one house until the government of Plateau State provided him a befitting one. Hypocrisy of the highest order, all the way from Westminster! |

Neddstark: Why did Ghaddafi wait till there were rebels before offering democracy? Indeed if Ghaddafi had started some form of democratic transition things could have changed peacefully. He might have even gotten concessions for himself like Pinochet in Chile. Ghaddafi was the cause of his own problems. Same as Mobutu. 1 Like |
