Gerrard59: To be fair, China is trying but they lack the innovative culture seen in other advanced nations. They also have trust ussues and they lack they soft power that can propel the Chinese culture and lifestyle into hearts of many. Look at how western nations messed up 5G just because it's from China. Though, I also fail to see the usefulness of 5G. 1 Like |

Martinez39s:Oga, you are conflating two different issues in order to push your argument through. I clearly stated that wealth is acquired by employing the mental faculties in thought that identifies a multi-user problem and then finding a solution that people are willing to pay for. And I think we both agree on that point. if the question becomes who gave the brain, then we can argue about the existence or non-existence of God. Now to the point of if God exists or not, the jury is out on the matter. I am religious and I believe in God. You obviously don't believe in God and that is your prerogative but somehow we both agree that wealth is a function of problem solving and not exclusively a metaphysical outcome. so if someone is deliberately creating needless confusion then it is certainly not me. By the way, I can declare here that both belief or disbelief in God requires faith and I can engage on the subject but its usually a mute point as both sides end up holding stronger to their initial positions. I don't engage in that debate unless I have ample time on my hands to while away but I can oblige you... even though it is a futile exercise!!!! |

These are real billionaires that built their wealth using their intellect not these fake billionaires we have in this country that use our natural resources to enrich themselves. |

Raalsalghul: Nah. Largely because America attracts people from all over the world compared to say China, Germany, Japan or South Korea. Also, America is best at the commercialisation of research outputs compared to those countries. It's the mixture of capitalism and innovation that powers America's progress. Which is why in a field like biotechnology and associated industries, she has more companies doing amazing projects/works churning out highly valued products and services than China, UK, Germany, Japan and South Korea combined. There are some companies utilising certain technologies that aren't found in South Korea or Japan but are available in the US. Hilariously, one will read scientific papers from South Korea and Japan on the same technology but companies commercialising them aren't there. An example is gene editing. https://www.sciencemag.org/news/2019/08/its-crispr-revolution-china-becomes-world-leader-genome-editing If China's, Japan's and Germany's publications are combined, they surpass the US but there are more companies utilising said technology in the US than all of those countries even though China, Japan and Germany are the world's second, third and fourth largest economies respectively. Rather than Peking University, Tokyo Tech, Technical University of Munich leading the way since both countries are publishing papers in numbers, Harvard and UC Berkeley are the ones with the licence and making the money. Which is why across the top three higher education ranking agencies, schools in the US dominate disproportionately. The success of the US in scientific advancement is the combination of capitalism, attraction of smart people from all over the world and innovation. No other country has all three attributes. SIRTee15: China innovates very well and has really climbed the ladder in scientific research/publications but she isn't attractive enough to get smart people from other parts of the world to live and work in China compared to the US. Also, she's not as capitalistic as the US which has more venture capital firms than anywhere else in the world. However, compared to say Germany or Japan, China does well in commercialising scientific output but nowhere close to the US. Scientific research without capitalism makes no sense in my view. Kpata Kpata Nobel, Abel, Wolf's prizes here and there but the companies making use of these technologies and discoveries aren't available. Which is why Japan with all her scientific research/output in medicine and biotechnology coupled with relatively high number of Nobel laureates has less number of multibillion dollar biotech firms than the US. 1 Like 1 Share |

This man will soon overtake that Amazon guy, Jeff Benzo is only riding the wave of covid-19, once the pandemic is over, more people will be shopping in-store rather than online. Elon Musk is the true billionaire for the future. He will enjoy that spot for a long time. And this is a warning to Nigeria and other developing countries still depending heavily on oil. Tech is the future, people are moving their investments from the fossil fuels to renewable energies. The election of Biden will only help push investments in that direction, USA will rejoin the Paris agreement and the cause to save humanity from the danger of climate change will gain more momentum. |

wman: Na lie, na covid-19 gives Jeff Benzo that astronomical increase in net worth. Most people are shopping online due to the pandemic and lockdown, as soon as pandemic is over, you will see that Jeff's net worth will decelerate. And the tax cuts by Donald Trump for the super rich is another thing, Biden will levy more tax on them. |

yusman14: You made good points. Also, some people have natural grace or luck. They are blessed from birth with high IQ the same way some people are blessed to be great musicians or sport stars. It's just grace/luck. Like Jesus said "you will always have the poor with you". In other words, not everyone is born to be a superstar. That's just a fact of life. 1 Like |
