Well, unfortunately, the Government that should be in the forefront of tourism are not really doing much. This was built by the Ooni of Ife. The last part about reading agreements does it relate to this post or just a general advise. Thank you

If you paid attention to your story ,you would understand that he was referring to the Queen whom signed an agreement With the gods without understanding it first.

This is the tallest Statue in Nigeria, It was made from locally sourced materials and local artists in Ile Ife. It is 42 feet tall. making it the tallest statue in Nigeria and the fourth in Africa. The statue was built by the Ooni of Ife Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi. He is one of the few Kings in Nigeria passionate about tourism.

It may not be as big as the Statue of Liberty in the United States. But it is a symbol of hope and strength and it shows the huge role women have been making in history.
So I am using this medium to shout out to all the women across the world making our world a better place. God bless you all.

Entry to this place is free, please ensure you tip the caretakers of the place. Let's promote Nigerian tourism.

This is really a nice writeup,well-done ! I have actually visited the place severally; such a cool place to visit. The statue is gigantic ; very huge ! The location is not far from the palace.

Op,why is it that when the story of Iya Moremi is being narrated, people don't actually talk about where she came from originally ? Are you aware of the fact that Moremi Ajasoro ,who sacrificed her only child,Oluorogbo ,for the people of her husband, was actually an indigene of Offa in kwara state ?

Moremi Statue is the tallest in Nigeria and it is one of the tourist attractions in Ile Ife Osun State. The story behind this place is about a woman known as Moremi Ajasoro who played an important role in Yoruba history. She helped in liberating the people from oppressors. She paid the price with her only child. The people of Ile Ife made a promise to her that they will forever be her children. This is why she is being celebrated to date.

The story behind it is there was this tribe known as the forest people who are always dressed in leaves that comes to attack their villages and kidnap their people. The people have tried so many things to prevent them from invading their villages but nothing worked. SO she approached the gods and the gods offered to help her liberate her people. However, the gods demanded her most precious asset for sacrifice. Without asking, she accepted the offer.
She followed their instructions and allowed herself to be captured by the forest people. After she was captured because of her beauty, the forest KIng couldn't resist her and he married her. This gave her the time to study the people and she learned about their tricks.

Well, I celebrate Winston churchill despite the man committing gruesome murder (and being a racist and boorish fellow)because if he hadn't done so, but joined most of the people of his class in calling for peace the whole world would have been under the rule of mass genocidists...wh by the way had some nice plans for us africans that would have made british colonial rule look like the fabled Shangri-la...

If Moremi hadn't done what she did...maybe most of her tribe/region would have been either dead, or in perpetual sllavery

Human history is not perfect. Nigeria in the pre-colonial era was a LAWLESS place. Your village could be raided and everyone killed or enslaved. You did what you had to do to survivie.
You shouldn't have responded to the dimwitted fool.
Those forest people were killing the people of ife, raping the women, slaughtering the men and taking them as slaves before moremi was able to learn their tricks and they fought those that came to their land and finally decided to invade those forest people.
So the fool will be happy if they succeeded in killing all the ife people, right?
Saying moremi should not be celebrated....kai dummits plenty for this country.

Exactly...and not only that... she's is being celebrated for leaving her husband's house and allowed herself to be captured by the people of the forest.. not only that...she married another man (cheated on her first husband) ..snitching on her second husband to be wiped out by the soldiers of her first husband...like kilode gaaaan...why is the OP shying away from the questionable attitude of moremi... Perhaps she thought she didn't enjoy enough satisfaction from the second husband...she now ran back to the first husband and as a cover up for running away the first time..she went on to snitch on her second husband .... Logical huh wink wink wink grin...Afo'nja

Yes! I literally travel everywhere I post. I do not post places I have not travelled too. Travel blogging can be stressful, time-consuming and lots of investment. I just completed a one week South West Trip. From Lagos to Ogun, Oyo, Osun, Ondo all the way to Ekiti. So right now I have completed all the major tourist attractions in South West Nigeria. the plan is to visit all the tourist attractions in Nigeria by 2022.

You are making the mistake of judging historical figures by modern standards

Nigeria back in the good old days was a lawless place. You could be sitting in your village and a group of invaders could wake up and enslave most of your village. So you did what you had to do to survive, and if survival meant sleeping with the enemy so be it.

A lot of kings forcefully married their daughters off to foreign kings in the past. Today we would call them bad people but back then such marriages often times saved thousands and millions of lives. Because the alternative was chronic warfare.

So stop laughing. Moremi lived in a time when there was no UN,no police, no standing army. Sometimes it was just you and your enemy. Might made right. And in times like those times you either used what you had including cunning and making appalling choices to survive or you became someone's footstool for the rest of your misreable life or worse

Yes she's from Offa but she is not being celebrated by her people.

They only named her after one old secondary school. (Moremi high school)

They just recently build a Hall of Fame named Moremi Hall of Fame beside the central mosque at the front of the Olofa of Offa Palace.

Yet to be completed tho.

Below is a picture of the Ile-Ife celebrated Moremi in Ugbo land being punished for her betrayal. She pleads everyday for her wrong doing. It is believed that she betrayed the good people of Ugbo kingdom in Ilaje local government of Ondo state hence the need to get her punished.

She's been whipped yearly for her atrocities.

The Ugbo people have their own version of this same history. If OP could also journey down to Ugbo kingdom, he'd get first hand version of theirs.

NB: While being celebrated somewhere, she's also paying dearly for her betrayal.

Well you're right.
Ugbo viewed her as a betrayal
Ife viewed her as Hero.

either ways, both parties are correct and the version OP started out is actually correct.

Which 42 feet tall? What made it 42 feet? A stature that is at most 18 feet tall was put on a staircase of probably 20 feet high and you say it is the tallest? undecided

So if you are 5 feet tall and you climb a tree of 30 feet in height, then you will tell us you are 35 feet tall when asked of your height? cheesy

Since OP is trying to visit all the tourist attractions in South West, it would have been good if he also add this place to his sites. No knowledge is lost.

Check the below picture, the place is also home to tourists from far and wide.
