It's true that I have no intense knowledge of his regime and what transpired during his stint as the longest reigned Nigeria's Head of State (1966-1975) but as a "Student of History and Research" I will speak from my diversified knowledge.

The UK parliament days back alleged that Gen Yakubu Gowon stole and stuck "Half of Central Bank" in London, now many Nigerians have since reacted for and against the statement.

My view is that, "No one can tell us that a man who was at the helms of affairs as at when we had the first oil boom in the country did not steal" Who Believes That?

It is in record that Gowon boasted to the world during his regime that "Money is not the problem, the problem is how to spend it" and some gullible and myopic Nigerians wants to cajole and coax us in believing that he (Gowon) is innocent and a saint?

It will only take a "Thief-like to defend a Thief", recall that “when Gowon was overthrown in 1975, late General Murtala Mohammed who overthrew him accused the Gowon government of being corrupt. Murtala Mohammed investigated all the governments under Gowon and all were found guilty of corruption apart from the Lagos State government of General Mobolaji Johnson. So, corruption started under him and has worsened now”.

“Corruption has always been with us from the first republic only that the scale was very minimal compared to what we have today. Before the first coup, there was corruption in the system but politicians were doing it with timidity because they knew there would be consequences.

One may ask why I decided to attach Gen Buhari to the picture? Buhari served under the regime of Gowon and was a right hand military personnel instrumental to the enthronement of Gowon as head of state and ouster of Gen Aguiyi Ironsi, Both Gowon and Buhari are synonymous with corruption and that was the institution of corruption in Nigeria and today it has heightened being that a student of the beginning of corruption is at the helms of affairs today.

Gowon and Buhari led the genocide war against the easterners and massacred millions of souls from the eastern region.

It would amount to induced stupidity, inconsequentiality and insanity for any easterner to hold brief for Buhari or defend Gowon in this allegation peddled against him.

Both Gowon and Buhari were mistake of a "Head of State" and today Buhari is mistake of a "President".

May the Long arm of justice prevail.
