The U.K. government said it plans to create a Digital Markets Unit (DMU) to enforce "a new code to govern the behavior of platforms that currently dominate the market, such as Google and Facebook." https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.cnbc.com/amp/2020/11/26/google-and-facebook-to-be-scrutinized-by-new-uk-unit-from-next-year.html 4 Likes |

Other countries are making laws to harness social media for economic benefits of their citizens. In Nigeria, social media regulation is to control free speech. The guilty are always afraid. 207 Likes 17 Shares |

How i wish Nigeria can implement this type of law, it will be nice. Google especially has an unfair advantage especially in advertising of their subsidiaries, no other companies can compete with them on search engine. For example, Google has a subsidiary called YouTube, if a small competitor wants to do similar video sharing as YouTube, that startup wont get traffic at all because once a user type in any keyword relating to video, the search results shows all videos from YouTube on the first page. That is bad and unfair..Google with their search engine kills small businesses. With Google search engine, Google acts like a very big global monopoly that wont allow small competitor to survive because they want advertising money for only themselves 96 Likes 3 Shares |

For those that might come here to rant...there regulation is different from APC...they are looking for a way to make financial profit from social media whereas APC is looking for a way to shut down oppositions and their critics. 16 Likes 1 Share |

Quite a mischievous and sensational headline They mean they hope to achieve a level-playing ground for businesses in the UK who can't have their ads on some of these social media and search engine sites who have far reach. UK will NEVER muzzle free speech. Somebody is twisting the facts to make it look like it is okay to regulate social media. Remember that breakfast in Sheraton is not the same as breakfast in Mai Shai's kiosk. A regulation of social media in Nigeria will be worse than Armageddon. UK is regulating so that her people can reach out, Nigeria wants to regulate so that her people can not reach out. 73 Likes 10 Shares |
