How i wish Nigeria can implement this type of law, it will be nice.

Google especially has an unfair advantage especially in advertising of their subsidiaries, no other companies can compete with them on search engine.

For example, Google has a subsidiary called YouTube, if a small competitor wants to do similar video sharing as YouTube, that startup wont get traffic at all because once a user type in any keyword relating to video, the search results shows all videos from YouTube on the first page. That is bad and unfair..Google with their search engine kills small businesses.

With Google search engine, Google acts like a very big global monopoly that wont allow small competitor to survive because they want advertising money for only themselves
actually there is daily motion but it does compare to YouTube in fact no other video streaming platform is like YouTube and I doubt it'll ever be out of business

YouTube is the only streaming platform that pays content creators

If you use another search engine it's still YouTube results you'll get

If you own a stake at Google you won't be complaining

besides YouTube pays content creators something no other one does

Tiktok is still the only video platform with major success since YouTube
Wrong none compares to Google plus a lot of them get their data from Google so what's the point?

There is nothing wrong with their strategy.. To keep your business alive you have to implement strategies like this... You can't avoid competition. Or are you socialist?

The way tech giants force ads on us is too much.
I wish social media regulation would mean thesame thing here in Nigeria.

For those that might come here to rant...there regulation is different from APC...they are looking for a way to make financial profit from social media whereas APC is looking for a way to shut down oppositions and their critics.

Just because that's what this topic is about doesn't mean there are no consequences for baseless claims and outright lies using the social media platforms in western countries.

There is everything wrong with their business model.

Google has unfair advantage, google dorminate the search engine market because of many monopolistic things they do.

Google is american, how will an American company be dominating everything in The world.

How will home startup grow if 90% of the traffic goes to google, no varieties for consumers

This why it needs to be regulated. Because youtube pays is not a good argument crom the regulator point of view.

The main importance is allowing other small businesses to also grow where they provide the same services as youtube, this is good for users and also for the market.

This big businesses kill innovation

How they do business.

They are regulated on how they use consumer data

They are regulated on what users can post online.

Also there are government agencies that regulate and fines social media companies if they break the rules

False, Google worked their way to the top and I followed their story all along. From little acquisitions to bigger acquisitions, from smart strategies to restrategizing after failures that was how Alphabet (Google's parent company) came to be what it is today, the only company that looks like it strangles its competitors is Facebook and there are proofs.

If you have any evidence of Google bribing their way into the market bring it forward, and I am very certain nobody forced Google's product on you or any other person (evidence are also welcomed for this).

Nobody has control of have the traffic on the internet works not even Google, small businesses die because startup founders don't understand how to play the long term goal and exit when its the right time.

The press stories is different from the blackhat methods they used in getting traffic for only themselves.

I hope you know that the department of justice of the United states is sueing Google for its monopolistic behaviors.

Google was accused in the long-expected lawsuit of harming competition in internet search and search advertising through distribution agreements – contracts in which Google pays other companies millions of dollars to prioritize its search engine in their products – and other restrictions that put its search tool front and center whenever consumers browsed the web.

Other countries are making laws to harness social media for economic benefits of their citizens. In Nigeria, social media regulation is to control free speech.
The guilty are always afraid.

You are very wrong. Each governments response is directed at the way such platform is used.
You are getting this response for Nigerian government because of our gross irresponsible use of social media in the name of freedom of speech.

Europeans dont use social media the way we do. Hence why her government is focused only on its pain points

Pls stop typing nonsense.

Google is the number 1 search engine and has control over traffic.

Google creates algorithms to destroy competitors by reducing traffic.

No small company can compete with Google and their subsidiaries, you will never rank on first page if the company only rely on seo.

Facebook altered its algorithm to prevent articles from certain news websites from appearing on its newsfeed, a new report states.

Google is facing new accusations of censoring conservative videos and pushing right-leaning news websites lower in search results

Provide an article from a credible source to show me that there is a law suit against Google for destroying competition. Facebook is the only company that oppresses competitors (i.e if they approach to sell and you refuse to sell they recreate your product immediately to their wider audience), Amazon too has a policy like that but it is not does not strangle businesses like Facebook.
