It could be that someone made use of her phone to purchase airtime. It could also be possible that her credit card detail had been copied before. She might have revealed a code to them.

Let us be sincere, account cannot be wiped unless you revealed your details. Why don't people cover the numbers when entering their details especially on the atm page.

Some yahoo boys would just turn their phone camera one and would get details about people's pin, atm card number, and account number.

I have a Sister who lives in the UK and occasionally deposites money into her Nigerian First Bank Savings account for over 10years now.

I visited the ATM this morning to withdraw some cash for my Mother via my said Sister's ATM card but I got the shock of my life when I saw INSUFFICIENT FUND displaced.

I Thought it was an error, So I checked the Balance of the Account which was supposed to be over NGN4million but NGN 418.09k was all that's left in the account.

Note: She doesn't receive alert on that account, she doesn't use Ussd, she doesn't use Mobile App.
We only operate on the account via That ATM card which is always locked away by My Mother.

Please, Who know the steps to identify the cause of this and possible rectification.

We don't know what to do because the account owner is currently in the UK.

I asked him one simple question he couldn't answer...why will a bank call a customer with an MTN line. Don't they have a land line or can't they send me an email or text message like they always do? He hung up.

Truth is most people (and most likely your sister) might have innocently given out those vital information making it easy for the criminals to gain access into that account. Cos no criminal can gain access into your account without you assisting them in one way or the other.

ATMs have a limit to dispense at once and I'm certain it's not even up to a 100k.

It is really an unfortunate situation. If it someone suffering from hypertension, she could collapse if she hears the news that her life savings was wiped off.

Imagine saving for close to 10years and it was stolen by someone in less than a day.

If you have the app on your phone, go there and view your statement of account... you'll see the transactions there. then from there, you'll know who the culprits are.

If you don't have the banking app, then ask your sister to mail her bank and request for it, the details of the transactions, time and location would be revealed on the account statement.

Ya I think it's possible fraudsters have gained access to that account.
Sometime ago I received a fraudulent mail from one of my bank account I haven't operated for almost three years, I quickly called someone from the bank who did some background checks and told me my account has not been compromised although it's possible for fraudster to access your account using just your account number. I think he made mention of one app they normally use; zappers or something I can't really remember.
But all the same you can go drop a complaint at the bank.
It might even be an inside job.

That particular fraud was perpetrated by bank staff who knew the account holder was based overseas with no access to transaction notifications.

You can check for accounts without transaction notification and then get an accomplice to reset the password on the card...or simply hack it in case of people that use predictable passwords since you already know the dates of birth, next of kin etc. First Bank is notorious for insider fraud on customer accounts, they experienced a wave of it in 2010 or so, guess there's another gang working within their employee rolls again this time

Yahoo boys now work in banks, they knot tie and wear suit like every other bankers but their job is to monitor accounts and fish out those ACCTS with owners outside the country, they have access to social media to confirm names, photo and exact location the account holder resides. These guys are mostly pickers and there are plenty of them working in first bank, zenith, Gtb and access

The phone wasn't stolen...
Infact.. my mother travelled to the UK last year... She just came back this September and she locked up that phone in her room b4 she travelled, it was also intact when she came back Plus the fact that I personally transfered 200k into that account last month(October)..

So, I don't think it's about that phone number

OP!!! its been a week, any update? I think I’d be speaking on behalf of many of us who are really interested in the outcome of this issue

From previous Looting of my Niece on this particular account...
We interrogated the House help who is almost same age with my niece... We found out that my niece had a spare key which she uses to open the wardrobe where the ATM card was kept... And withdraws the money via POS at will.

Finally we found the Criminal (My 14 years old Niece) and her accomplice (Our 15 years old House help).
They House help saved 10k out of the money but my beloved niece Used hers to buy clothes, do make up and snap pictures at photo studio plus other orishi rishi she was wasting the money on for almost two years.

My mom wan carry dem give SWAT but My sis wey born the gal just dey beg... she came from another state where she resides to drill the Yahoo gal yesterday.
