As a user of the original Mi Band 4 I can't let you come and mislead folks here, truth hurts.

The MR whatever you're referring to is a cheap clone, go and create a thread for it if you're so desirous of writing about it rather making it seem it's same as the original which this thread is all about.

Yes through Bluetooth. You download and install the MiFit app then pair through the app.

If you update it with notify app you are likely to end up here
Just enter telegram search for "mi band 4" group likely to get help from there.

If you update through the notify and fitness app and end up here you just have to download a compatible resource file and font then install still through the notify and fitness app, it will come up.

The Xiaomi Mi Band 4 is a wearable activity tracker produced by Xiaomi Inc. It was released in China on 16 June 2019, in Europe on 26 June 2019 and in India on 19 September 2019.
It has a super capacitive AMOLED display and features 24/7 heart rate monitoring, fitness tracker (swimming, cycling, walking etc),
Sleep tracker (to monitor your sleep) on how well or bad you are sleeping.
App notification alerts (calls, whatsapp, Facebook, sms etc).
If you own the device or intend to own one, let's all gather here so we can all learn a trick or two and as well help each other out.

You can you both or independently. I've come to realize that notify & fitness app has more features. So that only what I use with a little tweak, You will have to first install MiFit, pair and connect your band, then uninstall MiFit and install notify & fitness app, goto your root folder and copy the authentication code from the MiFit folder and paste it when notify and fitness app asks for it while installing and you're good to go from there.

Is it advisable to do away with mi fit since I already installed the notfy app since it is much more laden with other functions not found in the mi fit

Try plugging securely and leave it for upto an hour and see if it comes up.
