n3xt: I understand you clearly bro, as I said I’m not here to markdown the product at all. The purpose is to see how we can make some impossibility to possible by reducing cost drastically without much time wasted. Bcs time is money too. They are many product before lafarge and many will still come again. But the bottom line is it’s not cheaper to use. More so it’s best practice to lay tiles with sand, not just local practice. It’s in building tech text book and I practice it in sch then which was supervised by the lecturer. With mixture ratio of 1:3 So it’s not only Nigeria method as you stated. But new innovation is what we lack here In Nigeria, and it’s simple to apply this superflex But it not cheaper to OPC cement according to the percentage of structure in Nigeria 40kg of superflex is 4K plus 50kg of cement is 3k plus Sand 50kg N300 2 Likes |

zuraking: If you’re buying 50kg Elephant Cement which can cover 4sqm at 3,000 and you’re buying 20kg Supafix Tile Adhesive which covers 5sqm at 1,950, which one do you think is cheaper? Use a well plastered bathroom wall as a case study 2 Likes |

rotecch77: I'm with you on this. I've said it before, to achieve economy using adhesive, you must level and polish-off your German floor or decking from start. If you have done your German floor and decking the Nigerian way, sorry. Superflex can't help you. But truthfully, Superflex is the right way forward. |

n3xt: I like that your last statement bro “ A well plastered wall” If it’s regular then we will be talk of 2 bags of flex or more 1950*2 or *3 If it’s floor then it’s no go area ... higher cost |
Re: General Topic Thread-To Discuss Anything And Everything in Building Construction by n3xt(m): 4:06pm On Dec 01, 2020 |
rotecch77: By my understanding, we are only paying more for tiling because of shabby flooring job done by our builders. If it’s done right, you don’t have to spend fortune to lay tiles. 4 x 20kg bag of Supafix (sold at a little less than 8,000) will cover a standard bathroom wall of 4 x 10ft (provided you have a straight wall). I’m not sure my tiler has ever asked me to bring just 3 bags of cement to do tiling of a 4 x 10 bathroom. By default, our mind has been pre-configured to believe that tiling requires a lot of cement. In fact, I do tell my clients tiling is the most expensive stage in building. 2 Likes |

rotecch77: ”If it’s abnormal German Floor...” However, if it’s a well laid floor supervised by Nairaland Engineer Egunmogaji2 to international standard, Supafix is far more cheaper to use than cement. ______ Lafarge is also planning to introduce some new product into the market (engineered plaster sand, mortar, pre-mixed concrete etc). Things are getting better. Las las, we go dey alright. 3 Likes |

Good morning my wonderful people, am at the point of doing concrete parapet and roof carcass. The first question is, is it true that the 12ft(3.6m) hardwood planks are not the true length, that's what am using for my calculations but my carpenter is saying the lengths are shorten now adays, and what are the true lengths of hardwood planks in Lagos and surroundings. To minimize cost, what's the best way getting the concrete parapet and roof carcass done, since am not on ground to get somethings done myself. Thank you for your responses. |

Abbeyb1ack: Change tack. A lot of project managers only know how to buy, what to buy and where to buy. They don’t know how to save, what to save on and areas not to bat an eyelid. I’m sorry to say this but “Smart people rent formwork. They don’t get tricked into buying planks because they can reuse it in other stages.” |
Re: General Topic Thread-To Discuss Anything And Everything in Building Construction by saydfact(m): 4:23pm On Dec 01, 2020 |
jeffdaniel: You won't get 12ft in Lagos ooooohhh... for hardwood the best is 11ft BUT most wld be just a lil over 10ft.. so use 10ft to do your calculation and hope you know for overlap, you'll use about 3ft. leaves you with 7ft (if you understand) 3 Likes |

jeffdaniel: Have you considered using steel mold for your concrete parapet instead of woods? For roof carcass, I’d suggest you buy from Lagos in order to minimize cost or get a reliable person to help you source from other state and deliver to your site. You can get standard wood in Lagos a little more expensive though. |

At time you will have good concept couple with critical path analysis programming of the job but workers will still Bleep you off after much payment to there pocket actually this happens in finishing. That is the reason why I like carcass work mostly. But as a builder I need to do all, that is What I know to do both in theory and practical. My passion for building is second to non 2 Likes |
