There hardly any business you can do in Nigeria without physical presence , if not the workers will so steal from you . Even relatives can steal from you

It's a shame really. We complain about the government but really the problem is almost everybody .
@ the Bolded, that is the only kind of business I DO!

could have spent far less to do due diligence to know the real stat of the land.if you go to the property section of Nairaland there is a dedicated page on this issue

Land was in Anambra. Where do you want to start due diligence from?

P.S: the king sold the land. It’s the king that my dad sued. What’s more “due diligence” than trusting a Nigerian king?

Due diligence is paying a quality lawyer to do the investigation and all red tape for you! every land I have bought in Nigeria I have even at the point of inspection gone with my lawyer each time. Every stage is documented and filed! There is a sure way to buy land in Nigeria and if your lawyer sense foul play ahead he/she will advise you to leave it!

Count your blessings that he didn’t need hospital treatment in Nigeria. There are no controls on the food that the public consumes in Nigeria. The food is killing people in Nigeria but ignorance and poverty have blinded them. I remember during the launch of my bakery I tried to do some health awareness to some locals in Lagos. I refused to use any chemicals in my bread as a result it was a little yellow/ cream colour inside, if I wanted it to be veery white all I had to do was add bromate sulphate this will also help the dough to double in size, this is dangerous to the body cell after continuous use. One of the local suppliers told me that her customers preferred the one that is whiter inside and that’s what she will buy to sell. I told her I would rather shut down my bakery. They always claim that they have been eating it for long and they are okay? But are they ? When they fall sick and don’t know the cause, they blame the innocent villagers.
The plantain and fruit you buy in the market, are laced with carbide to ripen them and make the skin have a nice look. Water melon is injected with food colouring. Beans is loaded with insecticide to get rid of weevils etc, I could go on and on. Nigerians are used to people dying around them, most of the deaths are unexplained because it’s never investigated.

It’s very easy to sit on a fence and point out someone’s fault.

This isn’t the first land he has bought in the same state. If the king told my dad that he was the owner of the land, he would have told the lawyer the same thing. I don’t know the details of what transpired cos I was abroad then, but I’m sure my dad did his due diligence; the same way lots of people do due diligence when buying land but still get duped.

Quite unfortunate!

There's no value for life in Nigeria. Normality is absurd in Nigeria.

Personal and corporate greed is ingrained in every act regardless of the impact on others and the nation at large.

We can't build a nation on greed and graft.

A revolution of personal and corporate values is needed in Nigeria.

This is the conclusions I always arrive at when ever I get stuck in discussing Nigerian problems and issues.

The government, and the masses are all meat cooked in the same pot.

We need Orientation, and reset of morals and mindset.

Because as it stands now, if all the current politicians are replaced with all new youth. Same things happening now will keep happening.

As a confirm Gentleman that I am not cut out for down and dirty style. Any purchase I can't do with clicks of the mouse I try as much as possible to avoid

Had similar experiences with previous posters, bought land from the king/chief ( every street seems to have a king now in naija) about to start proper building we started the back and forth for several months then eventually we got offered another plot few plots away- we accepted

Half way through construction they started seizing trucks not for Omo onile levels o but new conditions-- we must buy sand from Mr A,b, or c and stones from xyz "we are promoting business from this area only" this one didn't last long

First structure complete with tenants, now to pay rent another God no go shame us levels

You want to start legal proceedings with the king over his fake ancesteral land?

Catching up on the last few pages has been fun and educating grin grin. Thanks @Aphrodite007 for a good laugh early morning.

Me dey learn from all this investment talks, its just scary of what business owners goes through in Naija.

I grew up watching my mum go through lots of businesses from selling fridge parts, to shoes, owning a restaurant and finally a supermarket.

She barely made any profit and from frequent stealing of staff to restrictions on locations and all. Although location do matters, probably if she did all this hustle in a place like Lagos would have made a difference, but any other location in the SW would end up being the same old story.

P.S: some business owners still dey owe her for shoes she supplied and sold to them for more than 10years now.

To sidetrack to another form of investment oo, which is my Child grin grin, Its time to fill in application for reception school for next sept. When filling the local authority application, how important is the write up on why one is choosing the school? It is not a compulsory question so just wondering if this will affect ones application if not well written.

Also, must one write a detailed one for each school (total of 5)? Abeg help a sister oo, all this school processes still confusing.

P.S its feels so surreal I moved here with a 10months and now talking about school application, testimony write up loading wink wink

You could have asked on Google and gotten an answer faster.
After a simple Google search, here's what I got

Fees. A Standard Visitor visa costs £95. The fee for a long-term Standard Visitor visa depends on its length: 2 years - £361.
Make una dey try check Google first.

Lycaremit is good. I can now recommend them. My first transaction with them was a nightmare. It took calling them out on trustpilot before they attended to my request after 2 days. I guess it was due to verification delays.

All my subsequent transactions with them have been wonderful. Beneficiaries get credited within 10mins of transaction. So, thumbs up to them. smiley

Moneyfex is also good.

I was checking FCA register to see if Lycaremit is approved and noticed they have a restriction on payment initiation service.

Gurus in the house, is payment initiation service linked with money remittance?

Lol Oga stop arguing. Even if you are buying a land from your father, you are required to do your due diligence because situations change very quickly. Even if the king assures you that the land belongs to him you still need to go to the land registry and make findings. Trace the origin of the land and any contrary claims on it. After buying it you also register your purchase at the registry. Now your father has contacted a lawyer to sue the king. This could have been avoided if he had engaged a lawyer initially or atleast made the process easier for your father. The lawyer would have taken steps to make it difficult for another person to buy the land without losing their money. Now that money wey una no wan give lawyer una go give am x10.

I don't think write up affects application as long as the school is prioritised. Usually the child is considered on catchment area and your personal preferences like religion, private or public, OFSTED rating, location etc

Privates are competitive. If you want to write a well written statement, just go for Private jare .. . You can do it wink
