Weather wood is eliminated from the building process or not ... the wood sellers will still chop.

There are other uses of wood out there.. people will still buy it for varieties of different projects.

it's called 3" by 1½". Next time, use angle bar for the frames. Pipes are prone to rusting quickly no matter the guage. Let me guess, the pipe used is 1.5mm thick. Same pipe used in making doors but remember this gate will be under the weather both rain and sun. The expansion of the steel in the day and contraction in the night due to change in weather will definitely affect it's durability.

Best to use at least 4mm angle bar for the framing especially the part that goes to the pillar because it carries the weight of the whole gate then use 1.5mm 2 by 1 for the slats to ensure durability.

Please how many rods will be enough for this project. I met a welder and he gave me the following list of no of rods for this 4 Bedroom bungalow. But the list looks much.


His list include :

2 tonne of 16mm
2 tonne of 12mm
1 tonn of 10mm

Firstly, the number of iron rods is much.
Secondly, it is not the duty of a welder to place the iron rods, it is a iron bender that is responsible for such.

Your 2 cents are really not needed here but I guess it makes for general thread conversations. You’re really not teaching “me” anything with these pointers.

I used USA measurement. You can’t find 3 X 1 in Nigeria so naturally you’ll slide up to the next size it’s logical.

What I used are exactly what I wanted to use as designed. There’s a specific look that I’m going for. Mine is more than just having a gate with slats.

You’re free to design and use what you want on your own project. Thanks.

I agree pipes do react to weather element when it’s not well treated.

Below is an 8 year old gate. Still solid like new without any visible sign of defect.

If anyone know TCC Ogere on Lagos/Ibadan expressway, the gate on that property is more than 2 decades old without any visible sign of defect.

yes maybe the time frame I gave is short and this gate has surpassed it. That doesn't disqualify my statement. Btw, how many people know treated and non treated pipes. Like in this thread of professionals, how many people can differentiate between the two

Do you have formwork for rental?
If yes, just provide the rates and qty for the plan. i do not need an analysis unless you plan to that for public knowledge.

I will do the cost-benefit analysis myself for this project.

That was how a welder weld reinforcement instead of tying it. He said it’s faster and cheaper to weld
