How many will be needed. The foundation needs piling because it is a swamp area. So that the building doesn't sink in later years

Do a structural design and also soil test to avoid story that touch.
By the way, where is your plot located?

Piling is also a type of foundation like strip, raft or pad.

It's commonly used in a very water logged site which has a poor load bearing capacity. Also the soil strata has been established through soil test or site investigation that such type of foundation (piling) would be suitable for the proposed structures.

As regards the cost, it's very expensive depending on the number of piles and diameter, concreted depth and pile cap designs.

However, if the client is advised to go for piling foundation without any technical site investigation, then that would be a wrong approach.

My advice is to have technical site investigation carries out so as to know the suitable foundation for the proposed building.

diordaves:

It would be most helpful if the concerned professionals could cool down and breakdown the process to the poster.

Please start from the drawings vis a vis the nature of the soil. What is pilling? Why is pilling necessary; need for soil test to determine extent of pilling with regards to cost. QSFemi, please shook your mouth put as well.

It is obvious the poster is overwhelmed and probably drawn with too much information they don't understand. Please help.

I thought you were the No 1 roofer in Africa.

So the harsh realities of things has finally hit you.

My brother be humble... You might be good at your job, but without a good attitude you would never go far in life.

Lemme shock you with some statistics.

Top 10 roofers in Nigeria don't personally have time online. They employ people to advertise for them.

Only slightly above 5% of Nigerian "Big boys/girls" are online here on Nairaland. Most of them are in diaspora.

Simply put, there are about 95% client base still untapped as many of them are not online not to talk of Nairaland.

My advice to you... Be humble and use your good works to conquer a fraction of the untapped client.

Alternatively you can continue insulting the 5% online prospect. And let's see if kneeling down online would help you. cheesy

The work we started today and where we ended it today. Check out the base of the station and see how it was welded and the attached clots to ensure quality.

Third photo is the gate Oga Valencia2012 ordered for. Work started on it today as well too. Kindly see the use of 4mm angle iron for the framing at the side going to the pillar and the other one touching the floor. Those areas are most vulnerable to rusting.

I don't know it all so I will be very happy if you have suggestions on how to do better than this. You start dying the day you stop learning

I don't have structural design . Just architectural plan. The area is a swamp
neduboo:

Sir, can you please explain to me in a simple term so that I can understand you clearly. I was told that piling will prevent the building from sinking due to the nature of the soil there. Or is it that bungalow doesn't require piling?

For a Bungalow, a structural design is not a requirement but it is good if you have one.
Now, a Bungalow does not require Pilling, even if it is in a Swamp.
The weight of a Bungalow cannot sink the building, in the worst Swamp, if you do a proper Foundation.
Sinking is caused when the weight of a Building exceeds the bearing capacity (Upthrust) of the soil.
The above can be tackled in three ways:
1) Increase the weight bearing capacity of the Soil, using a Pile Foundation (so that it sits on a layer of soil with better capacity, deep down in the ground)
2) Reduce the downward weight of the building (especially a Bungalow, which is already close to the threshold upward thrust capacity of the soil) by using lighter materials to build
3) More importantly, design the foundation is a manner that increases the foundation base of the building, to increase surface area and thus reduce its weight/downward pressure on the weak soil.

#3 is achieved by designing an INVERTED T- Raft Foundation.
Upthrust = Force/Area
Since the downward Force of the building is considered static/unchanging (total Weight of Bungalow), by increasing the area covered by the raft Foundation, you are reducing the Upthrust of the Floor, on the building and thus its carrying capacity, without a Pile Foundation.

If a Pile will cost you, #6M - #8M, if you get a good Engineer to do your Build, the Foundation l described above will save you a minimum of #3Million.
Contact an Engineer on this site, @Abdulwatecx, give him your build to do for you.
He is honest, reliable and good at his job. Yes, l can vouch for him
but l dont know if he is free right now..
I am trying to think of who else l can recommend but my memory is empty right now.
Dont try to do it yourself, you dont have the knowledge, dont use just a Bricklayer and you will be wasting money doing a Pile foundation for a Bungalow, its an over-kill.

BTW: I am not just saying this, l have put it into practice on a One Storey building, in the worst Swamp you can think of and the building is standing for over five years now. It has settled to its final state.

If you need a reliable bricklayer, let me know.

The only con of machine drilling is that it is more expensive than handddrilling.

Pros
1) You get accurate drilling.
2) It can break rock or hard stones encountered during drilling. Manual cannot do that.
3) It is les labour intensive than manual drilling.

Oh really! What do we know.

Please homeowners positive economy to consult professionals for structural work and then save cost at painting and decorating stage of the project by employing baba Lati.

I have seen homeowners cut corners with foundation stage and cry they can't afford best practice and then later be asking for spanish tiles.
