Gone are the days of passion.
Now, most people venture into medicine just because of Job security and the quick pathways abroad. I don't think money is amongst the reason though, because the course is no longer really lucrative in Nigeria. Just the job security.
There are mouth watering pathways to the abroad with other courses nowadays too so it's just the job security.

i had 288 in utme am i good to go for mbbs in usmanu danfodio from kwara state
288 is a nice score for MBBS for an aspirant from places like, Jigawa, Nasarawa, Gombe, Sokoto, Katsina, kebbi, zamfara.... Kwara is grossly competitive... Change to another course or you'll be given a course that will spoil ur mind(something like Applied chemistry, pure chemistry, botany, zoology)
If you change to MLS, you stand a chance

Smiles. Water is wet!
Passion won't feed on air. Passion for a particular field of study, especially medicine, is grossly misunderstood.
What do you think will be the fate of the passion of someone who got a medical degree for N20m+ only to be paid with CONMESS?
Meanwhile, a significant number of medics thought they had passion for medicine till after house job grin grin
Who will be more disappointed than someone who felt he had passion for a job for which he's being poorly remunerated? The facilities available for him to enjoy his passion are grossly limited. Patients will hate him, patients' relatives will curse him. Other health workers will beef him. Govt will owe him. His "passion" will laugh at him. He will be grossly demoralised with battered morale, him self go hate himself.

There is what I call the economics of real passion in third world countries cheesy cheesy

A child that can conveniently be given a private medical education will definitely have to keep getting stipends from home if he end up with govt work here in Nigeria because CONMESS will most likely not be enough to fund his average lifestyle.
Something must keep the passion alive for a course as demanding as medicine, else, na easy ride into depression.
I like you sir! you made a very serious and valid point, yet with a lot of humour.

Good day to all.
I'm an aspiring medic, I have also done plethora of research about the work ahead, so I came about posts where Doctors talk about how hard it is to get a placement for Residency. One doctor said it took him 5years to get a residency placement.
It's quite sad to see that happen, I must confess.
I will like anyone with a good knowledge about how residency placement works to kindly explain.
What are the things that can make one secure a placement almost immediately? Does it have anything to do with merit, state of origin or tye University one attended?

Bro can one get a placement for residency in neurosurgery here in Nigeria?....are there surgeon who perform the operation here or dey fly their patient out?.... and what is the cost of getting a residency in neurosurgery ?

Also bro.... kidney transplant surgeon nephrologist I guess shea Dem dey do ham for naija also how can one specialize in it here....abi na only medicine dem dey practice here not surgery.

Pls don't get bugged with my questions, I'm just seeking to know. Thanks.
What is a Doctor's Working hours like?
How many hours does a doctor work in a day?
I read about Dr Lagusta, he said in one of his diaries, that he goes as much as 124hours without sleep, OMG.
I'm solar-powered so I'm sure I can't survive staying up in the night for long, how will I cope?

You just made me remember my days as a house officer grin

For our UNN brethren that’ll soon write the Post-UTME, it’ll be super helpful for you to know the previous cut off marks to set your mind on which score to target in the test.
As we all know, you might have heard about folks who had high scores but weren’t admitted into medicine and surgery. And most of them go complaining and crying that Universities in Nigeria do cheat. While that might not be completely true, they fail to know the cut off mark the institution set.

If you’re a UNN aspirant for medicine and surgery, you’ll find this post helpful. In the guide, we’ve simplified all you need to know about Unn cut off mark for medicine and surgery.
If you got any questions, feel free to ask on the page. Good luck!

Okay

For those Predites, what they did was to convert their final PD score to 40 points , their UTME score to 50 points and their Olevel grades to 10 points.

For example, if a predite scored 320 In UTME and his final PD score is 85 and he had 9 points out of 10 in Olevels, the score breakdown will look like this:

UTME score ÷ 8 = 320 ÷=8 = 40
Final PD score ÷ 2.5 = 85 ÷ 2.5 = 34
Olevels = 9

So, the final aggregate score of this particular predite will now be: 40 + 34 + 9 = 83%

pls,can I have your whataÀpp digit?

One thing I know is that AAU is poor in MLS and that is the fact. I hope they don't over admit this time like Last year because it's their Niche and were prevented from admitting Students for medicine this year. Anyway congrats and make full use of your time

When you were born, were you dropped on your head? Someone shared a good news and that was the first thing that came to your mind?

In future, let me teach you how to present your thoughts when you feel the insatiable need to show everyone you are better than them. Read below.

"Congratulations, Andrew. MLS is really a great course. It's one of those courses that you have the chance to have your own practice after graduation. However, boss (this word is important cos you don't know who you are talking to), being successful in this course relies solely on personal improvement. Try your best when you get to school and see things fall into place after graduation. And don't let down your guard as I heard that AAU MLS is really not impressive and quite competitive. But with personal determination, then sky is your starting point. Congratulations once again Boss"

U said that you are in 100 level abi? Come on don't spill rubbish you are a pre-med student not a medical student yet. Don't complain they switched your course to biochemistry or Anatomy. Even Ebsu medicine is safer than UYO. I prefer to go to a school with 75 quota and above than going for one with 50. We must be watchful. Although I pray you will scale through
