Etinosa1234: Lol. There was never a time that Benin could ever dream about encroaching into Igboland. 1) Around 12-1600 saw the rise of new monarchical states in central and southern Nigeria. That was where mushroom empires started popping up all over the southern portion of the country. Igbos already had a large democratic population in the core of Igboland stretching back millennia, a proud and prosperous people that were extremely resistant to monarchy, a system they considered primitive. Therefore Igbo aspirants had to settle in more sparse areas in the peripheral of the Igbo heartland in order to establish this new system where only a few people (the new settlers) were on top. e.g western Igbo states, arochukwu, etc, etc. 2) Nnamdi Azkiwe claimed that some of his ancestors came from Benin. This can mean many things. Most Igbo people who say this actually trace their root to a wealthy Igbo man called Eze Chima, thought likely to be of Aro ancestry. He settled in Benin generations ago and many of his descendants returned back to Igboland to take advantage of the opportunites there. 3) During the age of Olaudah, the European knowledge of Africa was next to 0. Europeans then only knew about the people of the coasts, and generally attributed to them a reputation greater than they actually where. Europeans, having only met Benin, assumed that it was an 'empire' that stretched all the way to modern day Ethiopia. Not realising it was actually a collection of villages surrounded by a clay hedge. So in their primitive understanding, races like the Igbo were immediately put into this mythical 'empire'. Olaudah made sure to record his skepticism of this by stating in his book that he nor his people had never heard of the 'Oba', or Benin in their life. 4 Likes |

unshakablejihad:so to you the asian/european styled crown originates in your mythical arochukwu ? Oh, you didn't notice those crowns in your "arichukwu" amblem ? Next you will show me a product on which you can read "made in china" and claim it belonged to your precolonial ancestors. this makes me wonder how old you are. You reason like a teenager who has been skipping school.

Shiver99:From the 12-1600, there was the rise of top Empires in Nigeria.. these were the Benin Empire, the Oyo Empire, the Kanem bornu Empire.. and this so called mushroom empire that u call it traded with the Europeans and improved their standard of living.. and the So called sophisticated tribes that live in the bush have nothing to tell abt their history... The Benin Empire by the more eyewitness reports as at then specifically said that Benin was a prosperous city... An eyewitness report as at the 15th century compared Benin to London and said Benin was better than it.. that goes a long way to tell u abt how prosperous the Empire was.. But ur Igbo land... There are no eyewitness reports that ur people were prosperous... U guys were basically shut out of the outside world by ur waywardness and barbarism.. it was late 16 century that the Aro confederacy started falling after the decline of ur Nri kingdom
Here... This is clear proof that u didn't read his Odyssey.. he clearly said that his ancestor Ezechima was a Benin person who left Benin as a result of feuds that were going on in the palace... Nnamdi never stated the Aro bullcrap I are loading here... He stated that his ancestor emigrated to Onitsha in the 15-16 century .. there is even a place called Onitsha n'idu in Onitsha... which is thought to be where ezechima stayed This is another lie that u can't prove..... As at the 18th century, the Europeans were getting to know Africa well... They knew abt the Yorubas, benin, itsekiri, hausas , nupe, Songhai and the likes... .. . The fact that ur people were known in the 19th century doesn't mean other tribes were like that And also Olaudah was born in Africa before he was taken in to slavery at the age of 11... That's enough for a child to know abt the area which he grew up and was born... It can be forgiven that he made a mistake abt where the kingdom borders because of the lack of information at that time Haba... Guy.. take it easy with ur lie First of, this Olaudah in his biography stated that he was an Igbo man of Benin kingdom... Then he noted that he lived in the remote part of the kingdom.... He also noted that due to distance, the rule over them.was nominal... He even said that the people from the kingdom were the happiest people he has ever seen So if having written this in his biography, then where did u get the lie that he never heard abt the Benin kingdom Also do well to read abt most of the tribes in delta and u'll see their connection with Benin kingdom 7 Likes

unshakablejihad:so showing me a piece of wood and telling me a story about it proves there was an arochukwu kingdom ? Indeed i should have noticed the european letters also. I don't know why but the most obvious for me was the crowns. i saw that and stopped there. You haven't proven anything. I might as well go and carve a piece of wood and start claiming there was a jupiter kingdom. |

Etinosa1234: I have read his book, it seems you haven't however. He stated that the Kingdom of Benin started from modern day Benin and ended in modern day Ethiopia. He was regurgitating what the Europeans thought, because they had only met Africans on the coast. So of course, from that primitive perspective, the area would seem much better than the actual reality. Of course, we as more learned folks know that is by no means true. In the same book, he stated that he nor his people had ever heard of the Benin kingdom while living in Igboland , nor had they seen any traces of their existence. This is what learned people call a historical blunder, it is commonplace thing. Like how some Eurasians thought that river Niger was an extension of the Nile river. When you have a better understanding of things, you can correct those previous false impressions. 3 Likes |

unshakablejihad:You are basically just wasting my time and trolling. You clearly confuse being civilised with being weak. China, Rome and Athens also had walls, it is actually proof of military know how and great civilisation. All civilised kindoms had walls around their cities, paris had walls, florence had walls... Don't confuse the fact your ancestors were barbarians with some sort of "bravery" or strenght. I already explained to you that fighting fleeing canibaks in the forrest is not the same as fighting an established civilised Benin in a conventional war which by the way continued for a long time after Benin city was already captured. Now you have had me repeat myself. No more reply from me. Troll. |

Shiver99:Apparently u haven't... Otherwise u won't be saying this below . So in their primitive understanding, races like the Igbo were immediately put into this mythical 'empire'. Olaudah made sure to record his skepticism of this by stating in his book that he nor his people had never heard of the 'Oba', or Benin in their life.Well I've Posted an excerpt from his book.. do well to help ur self First of, this is another lie... Most of ur posts are just lies and assumptions.. Apart from Olaudah error, can u boldly quote any book from the legion of European that came to Benin who said that Benin borders Abyssinia? No... Because they know it isn't true If he was regurgitating what the Europeans told him according to what u want to believe, there would have been many books containing such error.. we all know that he made a mistake there ... But that doesn't take away the fact that he knew the place he was born which is expected from every 11 year old u come across today This is an excerpt from his autobiography...Why do u keep insisting on a lie that has been debunked time and time again.... And to think that u said that u read,.. I think that's another lie Lol... So does the fact that they made an error in that aspect make their whole life work a lie? Top philosophers once thought that the world was flat... But now that it has been debunked, does that make all their philosoph research a lie? So are u concluding that because of one error in a work, u decide that the whole work is false? 7 Likes

Etinosa1234: How do I know that Igboland was prosperous? Well, I can talk about their iron smelting history, the oldest confirmed in the entirety of Africa, or the fact that they were recorded to be manufacturing carnelian jewellery, brass bronzes, and fine textiles of varying quality, centuries before anybody else in Nigeria. However, instead, I will talk about one thing; their population density. Before colonialism, Igboland was believed to have the highest population density in Africa after the Nile Valley. One of the first signs of prosperity is population retainment. It indicates economic power and human advancement, and this was wholly concentrated in the Igbo heartland. Look at Nigeria, where are the most densely populated areas? Lol, if there was one thing I found admirable about the Benin, is that they had literate people describe their conditions before the slave trade and its eventual destruction. By the 1600s, Igboland had already entered into their dark ages. It had been hit by floods and weather changes between 15-1600s that devastated farmlands (a huge source of employment for Igbo people) and permanently relocated entire populations. Then soon after that, was hit by the devastating slave trade, which intensified hostilities between Igbo states, depressed the economy for centuries and regressed cultural and technological attainment back centuries. By the time that Europeans had entered Igboland, it was still reeling from this back-to-back centuries of devastation, but still managed to be one of the foremost economic powerhouses of tropical West Africa. 4 Likes |

Shiver99:Guy... Stop lieing... There is no proof that Igbo esp the nri people basically being the biggest kingdom then doing all this... Stop telling us fables and give us facts... According to Nwachuku, Levi Akalazu; Uzoigwe, G. N. (2004). Troubled journey: Nigeria since the civil war. page 5, it is said that the Nri people Main aspect of economy were hunting and agriculture... I can bet my 2 balls that u can't prove that Igbos are the first to manufacture bronze and the likes One thing I've noticed abt u is that u tell lies a lot... Firstly there is no pre colonial account that says that Igbo had the highest population in in africa... ITS A BIG LIE Secondly different European account state that population density is everywhere.. in old Oyo Empire, it was believed that Oyo had a large population... Same with the Benin and also the Hausa... It all depends on wherever the historian went to.. Thirdly if u believe that the Igbos had the highest population, then tell me, who did the census to come to such a conclusion Lastly densely populated areas are everywhere in Nigeria..in Lagos, Kano, aba... Not specifically Igbo land
Firstly I have to say this.. Stop lieing and do research... At first u claimed that in the 18th century, the Europeans knew next to 0 abt Africa ... Now this... Europeans had made contact first with The Igbo people in the late 15th century... They never made mention of all this coçk and bull story that u are saying here... I guess u are writing all this lies to gain sympathy... There is no eyewitness reports from any European present nor a historian work that says all this lies u are putting up here 6 Likes 1 Share |

techmo: If you are a Yoruba person, you need to do your homework very well, Ask yourself what you want in your life. To me, I think most Yoruba people including most of our present and past leaders do not know what they want in this world. Yorubas are living in a country in which they are begging to be a citizen, a country that you called yours and you don't have the right to be president without begging the slave master. Igbo produced something, tell me what your Yoruba people with all their fraud education produce? Nothing, again Nothing. We are even afraid to stand on our own with all the so-called education. |

Brown2012:True! Azikiwe was a Yoruba man who was offered by Awolowo to be the prime minister in a coalition but rather choose to be ceremonial president in coalition with the north. Ekwueme, the vice to the first executive president who was a northerner was a Yoruba man from Anambra. Nzeribe who helped Babangida annul June 12 election was another Yoruba from the south east. Orji Uzor Kalu who is running around for Buhari's sake is a Yoruba who only happened to be a former Abia governor. We understand the blackmail and propaganda. It has never worked. Gracias! 3 Likes |

unshakablejihad:lol OSU liar! So you wish that Yorubas should be as lilly livered as the documented generational cowardly Igbos? One Fon woman is equal to One million Igbo wrapper tying men....lol,they tie wrappers just like women, the generational cowards. Only Egba,a tiny part of Yoruba defeated the Fons...four times without breaking a sweat.. Just like only a tiny part of Yoruba....Ibadan....defeated the Fulanis when there was no Afonja to save them anymore.. Just like the tiniest not up to 200 Yoruba soldiers defeated battalions of Igbo biafran armies at Ore without sweating. Yorubas.... The Documented Warriors. Read how the Egbas defeated the Dahomey women.... For the most part, too, the enlarged female corps enjoyed considerable success in Gezo’s endless wars, specializing in pre-dawn attacks on unsuspecting enemy villages. It was only when they were thrown against the Egba capital, Abeokuta, that they tasted defeat. Two furious assaults on the town, in 1851 and 1864, failed dismally, partially because of Dahomean overconfidence, but mostly because Abeokuta was a formidable target—a huge town ringed with mud-brick walls and harboring a population of 50,000. https://www.smithsonianmag.com/history/dahomeys-women-warriors-88286072/ 2 Likes 1 Share |
