WHEN YOU CORRUPT GOVT DOES NOT WANT TO DIVERSIFY ACCESS TO SEA PORTS SINCE EVERYTHING COMING INTO NIGERIA COMES THROUGH LAGOS SEAPORTS YOUR ONNE PORT THERE WASTING AWAY TAKE SOME LOAD OFF LAGOS PORT LETS BUT OTHER PORTS IN NIGERIA TO USE TILL YOU DO THAT LAGOS SEA PORTS WOULD CONTINUE TO BE CONGESTED BUT GREED WOULD NOT ALLOW YOU TO DIVERSIFY SOME IMPORTS TO OTHER PORTS CAUSE YOU WANT ALL THE PORT DUTIES TO YOURSELF

Just yesterday, we were asked to pay 900k to move a 40ft container from Tin Can port to Warehouse bust stop!
Wow... That is beyond crazy... For those of you not familiar with this route, in ideal circumstances the journey should be about 10mins max.

I went to mile 2 on Thursday, evenon the badagry expressway from trade fair down to mile 2 is full with trucks going to apapa. The bus got stuck at first gate . Even orile and Iganmu side inward mile 2 whole service lane blocked. Then the Construction company blocked the fast lanes in both sides at mile 2 to renovate the portion this one now added to the injury.

It has never been this bad.

I couldn't even pass costain or orile back from Iddo side, passed ajegunle via marine bridge came out through suru alaba, entered korope to mile 2 , it didn't even get to the mile 2 barracks at all before it turned resume trekking again to join bus turning from the bridge after mazamaza.

The trekking no be here.

That Nigeria has an economy is a wonder.

So many crazy things that beggars belief.

These are things we expect govt to solve.
Things so little but makes a big difference to the economy.

This is how you know a working govt.

Instead buhari supporters will show us one highway or one locomotive as a sign that buhari is working.

Corruption is the major reason why those trucks are there

When they have been extorted by endless unions and task forces, Police, Army and the rest, how do you expect such a driver to go and park somewhere else?

Those trucks are not leaving in the next five years. Corruption has come to stay in port activities

These days it is crazy and it is affecting business. Imagine truckers charging 650k for a 20ft truck to Ikeja becaus of the congestion
if I see 650k I go rush am. Now it's between 900 to 1 million to the nearest warehouse.

The Nigerian government is the same as the colonial system of governance. Only interested in exploiting the resources with no plans to provide and connect with the people it governs. The people are just part of the resources that have to be exploited and decimated.

We really need to also curb this victim and paranoid mentality. It's always about southern business, eastern business, western business. I think this is one of the reason we can't gather as a people and fight our common enemy: the politicians. If the lag happening at Tin can is aimed at southern businesses, do you think there's no way people from the north will suffer from it? Are southerners the only one using the Tin can road?

If the road is well maintained and law and order enforced while Tin can road remains the major route for container transportation, don't you think the road would still operate without a lag? Is there a part of Nigeria that's exclusively like Dubai? Why then should we be focusing on ethnic or regional aspects of our problem while this same factor is what has brought our development to a standstill since over 60 years ago?

They should say why they're really going on strike, it's not because of the Access roads that they've been using like that for ages.
They need money to celebrate Christmas, they want to cash out.

They don't really want to use Onitsha port. And they don't want to open a riverport in Abia. They will choke on their own poison.

My dear brother, I was discussing it with someone today. There is so much corruption in the sector, the biggest gainers being the custom officers themselves. We cannot move forward in this country until we change our mindset as a people. Business owners are the worst hit because when we transfer some of these added expenses to the customers, they start complaint and shove off to find other alternatives.
Lol I work in these port terminals and if I open my mouth to tell you what we see daily with the level of corruption going on there, you will scream to the high heavens.

Btw if your uncle or anyone you know is a customs official in these terminals, he is on money.

The congestion has been terrible of recent. The roads are bad. Trucks still stuck in Mob for weeks now. Why won't they charge high to carry containers?

While coming back through Liverpool this evening I discovered they have blocked the bridge.

Nigeria matter don tire me

They are clamouring for the wrong things. Lagos is not the only state with functional ports. Decentralize the ports , open up all the ports in the south south and south east. bad governance is the issue. nothing will change until govt is changed .

Well said.

Warri have a standard port
Sapele have a standard port taken over by the Navy
Rivers have standard port
Likewise Calabar

Government should remove politic and utilize all the ports. If 30% shipment is destined to Lagos, 30% to Rivers, 20% to Warri and 20% to Calabar congestion and delay experience in clearing goods at Lagos port will be the things of the past.

I continue to wonder why truck container from Lagos to Anambra when there is port in Rivers, Delta and Calabar which are far closer.

Open eastern sea ports to decongest Lagos they say. NO.

Let them continue to develop only Lagos and later be complaining of congestion and traffic.
How can only one port be serving 200 million population when there are other alternatives in the east. Where else in the world does this happen?

Just because you don't want development for the igbo region and you don't want them to leave Lagos.

Which "eastern port" is not working? Is it government that chose port of destination for importers? Tribal bigot.

Its not working. They only use eastern ports to export oil and then use policies like high taxation for ships berthing in eastern ports to discourage importation through it.

If not for govt biased policy
Tell me how sensible it is for me to import through Lagos, then use roads with high risk of containers falling and the attendant costs to move it to Onitsha

Or don't you think something is wrong for people not to use the Eastern ports.
Government can reverse such trend through target policies which they are not doing so that they can free Lagos so that citizens can stop dying by ramming their cars on parked container trucks. I lost a friend like that two years back from your tribe ooo. You can see that no tribe is immune to this biased policy

So tell me
Is this government policy against the east which you people are upholding not tribal?

I am suggesting how Lagos can be decongested so as to avoid another "Yoruba ronu" and you are fighting against it.

Lagos is congested, open other seaport in Rivers, Onitsha to function at full scale so Lagos will be free, quiet and peaceful.

Decentralize things and see tribalism disappear. But no, you wouldn't.
You put all the economy of each region in the exclusive list and you expect non tribal accusations.
Nigeria cannot develop under this structure. Tribalism must continue to exist as far as we maintain this unitary system for a diverse people.

Somebody wrote : Any move geared towards improving and growing Nigeria is always against Northern interest.
How then can we grow
