Yea, some interviewers ask some weird/silly questions, however, I think the question is ideal for the post you applied for.
And I wouldn't think it has anything to do with the colour of your lips. Besides, you already affirmed/confident that you'll get the position, so why worry?

Lady: Do you smoke
Bumble: No I don't
Lady: Why are you lips dark
Bumble: It is natural. I grew up with it.

She then went on and on to give tips on healthy living, dietary advice etc and asked me to report back to her after two weeks of following her dietary advice.

Some of the questions you termed unnecessary are very necessary. You are free to lie about them, but know it that sooner or later, the truth will be known by the interviewer or the employer.
You will not understand until u become an employer or an interviewer.

During my time I work for people, I was by an interviewer.
Him: Which State are you from?
Me: I;m from X State.
Him: I heard that the governor of ur state is just looting u guys fund and making thing somehow hard for you people in the state. He even stole money meant for road construction.
Me: (very quick smile): Sir, I have heard something like that, but to me, I still regard it as rumour since I am not in government and cannot verify the rumour. So I don't talk about it because I can't defend it. So I don't know much about that sir.

You may think that this question is unnecessary. Due to the nature of job I was to be offered which need lots of confidentiality, they were testing me on my level of gossip. I beliv my answer made them beliv I don't give ear nor talk about unfounded rumours. Finally, I got the job.

Actually, what the interviewer said was true about the then governor. If I had started rattling to them how the man was bad and wicked. How he was looting, they will keep asking me more questions that will make me talk more and at the end, they will see me unworthy of taking up a position where confidentiality is the keyword.

Most Nigerian HR officers are just highly unprofessional and stvpid... Instead of concentrating on what the applicant most likely has to offer based on his CV and how he answers the interview questions thrown at him, they will focus on looks and be asking irrelevant questions... So when a person has dark lips, automatically he's a smoker? In saner climes, job applicants go to interviews with dreadlocks, tattoos etc and the interviewers are not usually bothered about all that but instead, focus on the likely personality the person has.

Guy, don't deceive yourself. The interviewer asked appropriate questions here and if you think such questions are not necessary, then better start planning not to work for anybody. Start building your own biz.

Let me tell you. Every job has it's no go areas when it comes to interview. Even if you are over qualified and u appear in a certain way that goes against the ethics or requirements of that particular job, my brother, they will throw u away. Even at that your "Saner Climes", they take it more serious than down here.

Even in a common party that requires you to come dressing officially, if u come on a casual dress, u may not be allowed in.
So when u talk about the sane clime, be sure u are saying what u know,

The other day I was just walking on my own ohhhh... Somebody just called me and started telling me that "if u rub this pink lips cream nobody go know say you dey smoke"" I was like Wetin be all this pone self I have been asked this awkward question since 1980.......

While it's truly a possibility, that's not always the case, sir. Contrary to what an average man thinks, women don't generally live their lives to impress men. Fashion is a very personal thing. Just like a guy who has tattoos, dreads, ear piercings, etc., people generally dress in a way that makes them feel good about themselves. Men like to woo and attract girls but it would illogical to say we buy expensive shoes solely for that purpose. Dressing (appearance generally) boosts one's personal confidence. While there are many things that could boost one's confidence, most of them are not easily within our control but dressing is. And that is why both men and women would dress whichever way makes them feel confident even when it appears unacceptable to others. A girl who dresses shabbily is still likely to dress that way even after marriage or in all female gatherings cause that's her sense of fashion and possibly source of confidence.

My brother. I just want to say if this is how you respond to interview questions, you wont be able to get a good job.

Whenever you respond to a question, don't just say yes or no.

Say yes, explain your reasons for saying yes, give some examples of why you choose your reason, and then some lessons learnt in the past. It helps tune the conversation to your advantage, and boost the believability of your responses.
