davodyguy: Idumota is a name that always give me some feeling. It was the place I shell out #25000 to buy Sonny TV and VCR when a plot of land was going for #12000 in Abijo. Every time I am in Lagos island the memory always hunt me. The foolishness of my youth. I could have bought NEC or Goldstar(LG) for half the price and be watching that plot(with a 4 room face me face you) appreciating today |

Quick Question about painting My initial layman Idea was to screed my external walls and use satin. However the 2 painters that ve checked the work so far has suggested I go for velvet and skip screeding/satin for external walls. Their argument is that satin peels off after some time due to harsh external conditions. Can anyone confirm if they ve used velvet instead of satin for external walls? if yes, is this method better than screeding/satin? More so...How do you prevent soaked wall during painting..I did German floor with the water proof stuff as advised here but I am thinking there is a "painting method" to further reduce this problem. If anyone has an idea of what works...please inform me. Thank you very much in advance. I also will like to thank everyone here..amazing work you guys are doing pro bono. it was here 4 yrs ago I realised I could build a house 5000km away from home with lil penny I was earning as Doctoral candidate and in the coming weeks, my 180 m² home will be ready. For this I say thank you @all and keep the thread alive. Happy Holidays! C. 4 Likes 1 Share |

topsy23: That was 1991. The elderly man who was a cleaner in our office then was from Abijo and was telling us the young one to come and buy land there. I did my industrial attachment at the establishment and was retained Our DG and the Directors and Deputy Directors are all leaving in Ikeja, VI and Ikoyi. I have a 15 years plan of either been a deputy director or a director by which I will move to VI or Ikoyi. What is my business with Abijo was my though at the time. My 15 years plan was frustrated by incessant strike, when my HND program that was suppose to lasts for 2 years was going to 4 years with no end in site, I "fanchy" out 1 Like |

Beframia:Curious about this too. Terrazzo was common in the early 90s. But I have seen a shift from that to tiles and marble in the last 25 years. Any reason for the shift except for cost? Are there still people doing it and how much does it cost on average? 1 Like |

diordaves: I looked recently into hardwood. It's expensive. The additional costs of shipping and clearing might make it even less appealing. Depending on the scale of the project, it might not be cost effective and then the installation in Naija might not be the best since not many people do it but I'm sure there're people who can still do a good job. My gripe is seeing expensive million dollar projects in lekki still using low quality tiles everywhere and poor finishes. Quality of materials in these expensive homes are just distasteful. I mean these are $500k to $1m homes. Surely the budget is big enough for more quality finishes. 1 Like |
