That was 1991. The elderly man who was a cleaner in our office then was from Abijo and was telling us the young one to come and buy land there. I did my industrial attachment at the establishment and was retained Our DG and the Directors and Deputy Directors are all leaving in Ikeja, VI and Ikoyi. I have a 15 years plan of either been a deputy director or a director by which I will move to VI or Ikoyi. What is my business with Abijo was my though at the time.
My 15 years plan was frustrated by incessant strike, when my HND program that was suppose to lasts for 2 years was going to 4 years with no end in site, I "fanchy" out

in 1991, Lekki area should be around 25k per plot

Chekitaut tried to guilt and ridicule me for building in lowly Omi Adio and not Lekki. I laugh at him in Arkansan grin

My people buy land, buy abandoned projects. Build a portfolio. If the place na ghetto sef, buy and build and charge commensurate rent.

I don’t know it all but I listen to experienced doers.

Quick Question about painting

My initial layman Idea was to screed my external walls and use satin. However the 2 painters that ve checked the work so far has suggested I go for velvet and skip screeding/satin for external walls. Their argument is that satin peels off after some time due to harsh external conditions.

Can anyone confirm if they ve used velvet instead of satin for external walls? if yes, is this method better than screeding/satin?

More so...How do you prevent soaked wall during painting..I did German floor with the water proof stuff as advised here but I am thinking there is a "painting method" to further reduce this problem. If anyone has an idea of what works...please inform me.

Thank you very much in advance.

I also will like to thank everyone here..amazing work you guys are doing pro bono. it was here 4 yrs ago I realised I could build a house 5000km away from home with lil penny I was earning as Doctoral candidate and in the coming weeks, my 180 m² home will be ready.

For this I say thank you @all and keep the thread alive.

Happy Holidays!

Thank you sir my able chairman.
I really don't understand what they meant by velvet. Maybe they meant matte or silk.
If the plaster is smooth, you could prime it and apply matte. A primed wall looks much better than un primed wall with matte. It would make the final colour appear bright.
The sheen on satin would eventually dull outside and it's too light to be very durable on external surface.
Painters use different terms to describe paints. Some call satin rubber paint.

Abeg no vex. Which one be moisture theories regarding tiling?
Moisture Theory is the general assertion that kitchens, toilets and bathrooms must be tiled from the floor to the ceiling to prevent water or moisture from getting into walls.
I believe in the theory of as long the space is well ventilated, the right primer and paints used only wet area requires tiles...... it's a interior deco in practice where I am and it WILL also work in Nigeria, I prefer a lively interior not a shrine!

How do you cope with snow?
SUV is not immune against snow slip, you can perfectly drive on snow with a normal car....I don't live where severity of snow fall are rampant. With winter tyres and tire chains you can drive up snowy hill without problem but it requires maneuver skills though.

But I'm still trying to understand the bolded. Will the 5k take the door to the owner's house in Lagos or to the motor park where he will still pay another 7k to move it to his house?
I will ensure that I get it to the closest park to your location. I can't predict what happens after that. But if the quantity of the job is much, I can arrange to have them delivered to your site. Thanks
