DeKen:on the issue of using inorganic fertilizer like urea is a double edged sword,it gives rapid growth and vigour if applied correctly, and it also Burns and kills without mercy if applied incorrectly,we have long since accepted some loses after urea application to colletral damage, loss of 5% after urea application is common and negligeable, even in our current tomato farm we have lost close to 7% since we applied urea+npk 201010,it is a sacrifice so others can grow fast |

DeKen:we found out in cabbage production weather, temperature all plays a vital part,if you transplant cabbage and the next day temperature touches 32c-34c,I don't think non will survive or even if it survived and grow, with temperature like that it may not form head, cabbages are best planted in the mid rainy season with cooler temperature (june-september) |

DeKen:we planted the melons and it grew and formed heads ,hundreds of heads, but sadly every rodent and animal decided to take a bite from our melon, unlike cucumber that can have fruit damage and still grow to be saleable, melon if damaged or punctured even on a thiny level will spoil and be unsaleable,we are planning a melon come back but it will be staked, every ball will be lifted off and suspended with twine and old bags off the ground. |

okoroemeka:Oh, so sorry about your loss. Looks like rats are so plenty in your farm area. If there is a farm house where people reside, I think raising several cats can reduce rat population in the area. |

okoroemeka:. Bozz from your quote on nematicides, which good one can some1 get that will reduce ur use of insecticide, because this dry season na every days to use insecticide. The backing of knapsack no funny at all. |
Re: 500,000 Naira From One Plot Of Land In 90 Days. by ideepaul: 3:15pm On Dec 07, 2020 |
fiddzy:spraying every 3 days is necessary sir. Nematicides control soil borne attack and can't substitute foliar insecticides (organic or inorganic)! If you can't carry the entire 16L load at once, carry half full knapsack or pay someone to do it for you...even greenhouse farmers dey use knapsack Oga |
Re: 500,000 Naira From One Plot Of Land In 90 Days. by okoroemeka(m): 4:08pm On Dec 07, 2020 |
fiddzy:what we noticed is that a good nematicides will control not only nematodes but visible insects like cucumber bettles, hoppers, caterpillars for 20_30 days,,but during dry season like now the insect attack has moved to the microscopic level, you will have a full insect invasion and you will barely see them,i highly doubt if nematicide can control spider mite, broad mite, thrips, whitefly, aphids, these are the common insects during dry season and they are the most difficult to eradicate., 1 Like |

okoroemeka:. Tragic! I suggest u build a low fence (<knee height) round the farm with sticks, dry grass etc. But leave some entry points for the rodents and set traps there. Those rodents (except the tree ones) don't know how to climb, so they will enter thru the entry points. |

Padma f1 tomatoes flowering, the flowering pattern is a clutch of 4-5 flower buds and immediately above will be another clutch,it continues like that while growing,I am baffled if this is how it will fruit, and if what am suspecting is true then it will be an interesting adventure.
