Having read a lot of comments here, both true and otherwise, I ll like to drop few words.
I ll begin by letting you know that I was in your shoes (an applicant ) for 2017 NIS Recruitment Exercise which was finally concluded in 2018 (Superintendent Cadre - ASI II) but didn't make the final list. I was pained at that time considering my previous efforts on different Uniform Jobs and that one in particular.
However, to the glory of God, I made the final list in the 2018 NPS recruitment which was finalized in 2019. And today, I am a TRAINED COMMISSIONED OFFICER of Nigerian Correctional Service hanging two shinning stars . i.e Assistant Superintendent of Corrections I (ASC I).
Now, to the main points I ll like to share...
To those doubting their statement of results of whatever Academic Level and Year, lemme tell you that you have nothing to fear so long you actually got it from a recognized Institution. I used MSc statement of result which I got in 2017 and didn't face any challenge during certificates submission. At my station, i just recently met an officer of 2016 set who also had his BSc in 2012 from the same University i did my Master's degree. He told me he hasn't collected his Original Certificate from the Uni and it didn't affect his promotion. The department just promoted all officers of 2016 set from one to a month ago and backdated it to 01/01/2018 (It is called advancement/ confirmation)
Although, the Permanent Secretary to the CDCFIB appends his original signature (NOT SCANNED) on every single APL. Be aware that appointment for Superintendent Cadre (Commissioned Officer) is from CDCFIB while the appointment of Senior Inspector to lowest cadre is from the Controller General. That's the reason Superintendent Cadre are given the Presidential Commissioning. One particular paragraph spells this out on the APL unlike APL of SIC downward. However, with the recent Harmonisation of Ranks, I cannot categorically say that APL for HND holders WILL or WILL NOT carry Presidential Commissioning. One thing that is certain now in all four departments is that HND holder now wears same rank, gets same pay and now enjoys some privileges hitherto, exclusively reserved for BSc holders.
On the next thing after JAMB CBAT? Of course, a lot of applicants will still make the next stage _ Certificates, physical and Medical screening. Take Note: Paramilitary is not like Military where you ll be subjected to Strenuous Physical, Mental and Medical tests. (I once did that of NAVY DSSC so I can bodly say what obtains in the two) For NIS, they may decide to conduct few physical exercise for Applicants or they may just ask you to come along with a tenable Medical Certificate from a recognized hospital. On the academic certificates vetting, they may want to fish out some anomalies in your age vis-a-vis dates on your certificates, expecially in your FLSC or Testimonial (Both are acceptable in Paramilitary). You will be given some official forms to fill too at this stage. If you have falsified your age, try and perfect your documents to avoid any questioning during this next stage. This, however doesn't even prevent you from getting the job if you ve got semi-gods up there. Many of my colleagues were far above 30, some were even in their early 40s. While some decided to reduce their age, few used it like that and today, they are officers. Most applicants tend to reduce thier age cos they wanna enjoy more years in the service not necessarily considering old-age ill-health.
To finalise my long epistle...
✓ Not everyone who makes it to the next stage will eventually make it to the final stage of APL collection and IPPIS capturing.
✓ I ll advise all and above to-be-officers whose Appointments come from Board to intensify their efforts in connecting to the God Almighty and semi-gods if they have one. Appointment from the Board has numbers and it is obviously countable.
✓ those applicants for other ranks too should ask for favour from the Supreme Being. A very significant number of Assistant Cadre in my department, expecially those of 2019 set which I know very well got the job without knowing any body nor paying a dime. Infact, three among them who are somewhat close to me are undergraduates and just decided to apply with SSCE and they got.
And just to add this, you guys are coming on board at the time when lots of reformations are happening across all four departments under Interior Ministry. Efforts are underway to implement One Level Forward pay where you ll be collecting the salary of your immediate Senior.

What if one does not have a FSLC? The last time I checked, FSLC still remains a very important government certificate (It is used by the Ministry of Education). So government agencies don't joke with it during recruitment exercise. However, Testimonial issued directly by our individual primary school is also acceptable by Paramilitary Agencies. People have argued that some government agencies prefer FSLC to Testimonial. But for me, I don't have FSLC because I didn't sit for the exam then. I have always been using my Testimonial for all recruitment exercise I participated in including the Military before I eventually got commisioned in NCS. 8 Likes |

1, What is the salary range of Assistants cadre compass 03 - general duties?
2, can one still tender his/her bsc certificate during service for promotion?
3, which state is the screening, documentation and medical stuff is going to take place?
4, I read previously that someone with a bow leg will be disqualified, how true is this? (the bow leg is not obvious thou)
5, lastly, after training, will they just post people randomly to any state?
thanks. 1) The Four Services under Interior Ministry operate four salary structures which include CONPASS, CONMESS, CONHESS and COMPASS. You ll be given the one commensurate with your what you are employed for. For General Duty Officers and men, we are placed on CONPASS, CONMESS is for Medical Officers and Vetinary Doctors, CONHESS is for other health officers like Nurses, Laboratory Scientists and so on. The Gross Salary of personnel in all these four departments are the same across Levels. But the Net Pay differs because of differences in deductions. Compulsory deductions for all are TAX, PENSION (both employee and employer), NHF - National Housing Fund and NHIS - National Health Insurance Scheme. Apart from these, one or two of the four departments make another deductions from Gross Pay. That's why your counterpart who is of the same Grade Level and Step in a sister department collect a little higher or lower than you. Now, to directly answer your question is not possible for me because i duly appended my signature on OATH OF SECRECY form. What i can tell you is that you ll be placed on CONPASS as a GD personnel and your Grade Level and Step plus deductions from your department (apart from statutory ones) determine your NET PAY. 2) The answer is Capital NO. It is always boldly written that Certificates not presented during documentation will NOT be considered again. What usually happen before now is that applicants who have had higher degrees (either HND or BSc) may decide to take appointments for lower cadre (SSCE or ND/NCE) perhaps because of what their sources could afford. After two years of joining, they ll quick enroll for Master's degree so that when opportunity for upgrading comes around especially for those on Level 7 (Inspectors), they can apply with Master's degree they acquired on the job and get commisioned to either or depending on the recommendations from the department to the Board. But with the Harmonisation of Ranks in place, nothing like upgrading again. Once you join as an Assistant (now Constable) your promotion in whatever Service you belong depends on years in Service just like in the Police we copy and not by acquiring additional academic qualifications. Special or accelerated promotion can happen though. 3) It is the Service that determine the location suitable for them considering the cost and prevailing situations in the country. They may decide to do it at either State Command Level, Zonal Level or Headquarters (usually for Commissioned Officers) 4) Like I did say in my previous post, Paramilitary is far away different from Military. That one you mentioned and other are minor stuffs do not prevent you from getting NIS or other Paramilitary Job. The only thing is that you may not be able to join special unit within your department and remain Conventional personnel (ATURA) throughout your stay in the Job which is even preferred by some folks. 5) If you eventually get the Job, every body both Commissioned Officers and other ranks will first report to their respective state Commands to under what we call INDUCTION TRAINING/COURSE. This is done to familiarize you with the job ethics and modify your Civilian Ways of thinking. This may last for six weeks, two months or three months. With this, work has started already. Thereafter, some or all (depending on your number) will be asked to report to Training Institutions (College for Officers and Schools for the Men) to undergo Basic Officers Course for Officers and Basic Recruit Training for Men. Then, after your POP, you ll be posted back to your State of origin while some folks ll lobby to be posted out to places of choice directly. 13 Likes 1 Share |

Thank very much sir. We are proud to have you in our midst. My question is, will the 4,460 Available slot be shared equally to all States of the federation or according to Local Govt Areas 1 Like |

They may decide to do it at either State Command Level, Zonal Level or Headquarters (usually for Commissioned Officers)
4) Like I did say in my previous post, Paramilitary is far away different from Military.
Your explanations are valid. My younger brother applied with his OND because he graduated with his BSC last December and just received his statement of result. He will be going for NYSC by March next year. In his case, I advised him to take his BSC SOR to the screening if shortlisted and explain to the he just obtained his SOR last month. What would you advice? |
