Opinion: Is Private School Teaching The Worst White Collar Job in Nigeria? by hector: 4:07pm On Dec 10, 2020
It is no longer news that most private schools in Nigeria do not pay their teachers good salary. Most graduates who have taught in private schools complain that the renumeration is very poor.

Access to reasonable industry experience or career development is almost non existent in private schools except for those who want to remain in the teaching line.

So for instance, as an engineering graduate, you can't gather any industry experience while teaching that will be beneficial to you in your future career in engineering.

These are my thoughts. You can add yours. What do you think??

The whole educational sector is bad hence the menace from these private educational institutions!!!
In a well organized state with standard educational sectors, laws guiding the educationists will automatically checkmate these private schools (Ranging from poor employment means to unqualified teachers to poor salaries to......)

Teaching has no future my brother. I can remember vividly when I heard of a school in Niger state paying graduates 12k as monthly salary. Can you imagine? It is high time the government looked into the salary scale of private schools

Government should not determine the salaries/wages of private entities

Is Private School Teaching The Worst White Collar Job in Nigeria? Because teaching profession is over saturated in Nigeria. Once you graduate and no job, you automatically become a teacher. Even a teenager that fails out of secondary school is an automatically a teacher here. Who will respect us?

Some schools are paying less than 12k as salary.

Government create an enabling environment for businesses to strive not determining the price of goods or services. The least government can do is to make it mandatory that employers who employs more than certain numbers of staffs should pay the recognised minimum wage. Some private schools have expenses to settle hence don't expect them to pay high wages or salaries.@ the bolded if this how your parent taught you to approach a problem then they didn't train you well. A well brought up child who may be young adult and probably a graduate knows how to critic without insults. Your behaviour and attitude is expressed in what you just post on the internet. That is the law of demand and supply for labour. When there are excess labourers in the market, their wages falls. This is why jobs like doctor, nursing and pharmacy are still lucrative because they experience less supply of labourers

[/s] You have already graced this thread with your stupidity. What measures did this Jihadist government put in place? Kindly tell us. Or are you referring to the incompetent APC-led government that cannot pay striking lecturers outstanding salaries...? Where is the "enabling environment "...oga mumu? Is the enabling government the one your father Buhari created...? Idiot

Who enforces minimum wage ? Mumu answer. Is it not the same government that can barely pay minimum wage? You are just talking through your arse!!!

Next time learn to express your thoughts logically without insults. If you must critic, critic wisely without exhibiting your attributes on public forum. And yes there are things on the pipeline for private schools teachers just that your traits wouldn't let you see them

I have heard of such before. Infact, there was this guy who graduated with us with a 4.52 CGPA, but he was working with one private school paying him 35k as monthly salary. If not for our HOD who intervened on his matter and made recommendations that he should be employed by the university , he would have been languishing on such a poor salary.

Thank God for the HOD, but Ur school should have retained him after he graduated, that's what most schools do.

Maybe mushroom private schools. The big ones pay very well and send their staff abroad for retreats as well as local and international trainings

We are talking in general terms here. And besides, such schools still exploit their staff by making demands such as dress codes, taxes/levies etc
