Good evening Everyone..

I just had an unending series of arguments with both my Religious and Atheist friends about having a relationship with God.

Some claim it's impossible without going to church and Mosques or serving God the religious ways, while the other side claims following and adhering to the basic principles of life is enough to set and maintain a relationship with God.

I have brought this issue to nairaland for experienced and knowledgeable people to have their says.

Please let's keep the ball rolling...

Must be religious? How so? Nowhere in the verse you quoted does He instruct that the way that is He is a religious one. Nor does He state that His truth is religious. And He certainly does not state that the Eternal Life He offers is a religious one. So how do you leap to conclude that religion is the way?

Yes it is. Many have turned Christianity to certain laws and rules and doctrines you must follow to win God's approval. If this is right, Christ wouldn't have said He's come to fulfill the law. Christ introduced God to us as Father. He used "Father" more than He used "God". Jesus also said the way to the Kingdom of Heaven is by being like a child.

How do children behave with their loving fathers? They talk to them about everything, play with their fathers, believe everything the fathers tell them without an iota of doubt, and allow their loving fathers hold their hands while their fathers lead and direct them.

So that's my answer for you. That's the relationship we're to have with our Abba Father through Christ Jesus who is the Way, and the Holy Spirit is there to guide us concerning the laws, as it is written that He'll write His laws in our hearts. So, forget about the rules and doctrines and allow the Holy Spirit to lead you in doing right and having a beautiful relationship with your Abba Father. When you know how much God loves you, you'll be filled with love and naturally begin to love those around you and find yourself doing the right things.

That's what I believe our relationship with God is supposed to be.

Honestly. I don't know if there's a Bible verse in the new testament that Jesus called us God's servant or slave. He introduced us as God's children, heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ. People see God as one tall old man with white beards holding a scepter and ever ready to hit their heads when they fail. Whereas it is written that He'll never leave us not forsake us. Emphasis on the NEVER. Why didn't the scripture say He'll never leave us ONLY when we are doing right? It doesn't say that.

Again, in John 3:16, Jesus said God SO LOVED the world. It doesn't say "Christian world". He loves every soul out there. It's just up to us to choose to receive His love and flow in it, and watch as we're being led to believe right and do right.

It's really a beautiful relationship when you see God as your loving and lovely Abba Father

Your knowing comes from a place of revelation, the revelation comes from a place of what we call, the burning altar of a thriving relationship. It's from a relationship with the right posturing with God that true understanding comes. That's where you are.


It's not as simple as plain knowing. It comes because you have a burning relationship that makes you function and flow In a place of knowing that He's a lover and bridegroom and not a punisher and emperor.


When people have better understanding and revelation, they begin to become more Christ-like, I admire your understanding

Religion means Regular Practice like drinking bear, clubbing or taking time out to seek The Lord!

The funny thing about those who claim to have a relationship with God is that they are the most scared to meet him...if in doubt.ask the driver that just took me to sapele road....

It is called human BEING..We are spiritual entities, trying to be human being. At the end of the day we go back to our initial stage..

The only way to show we have a good relationship with our creator is to obey the rules of our nature as human being...The most of which is us not worshipping any other thing beside our creator..it is the height of insurbodination to worship sonething else. Those worshipping a man as God are not different from thise worshipping a snake or river..

But most people know that the spirit of the creator is in every of his creation. So they are tempted in reverencing the creator through those entities or other creation. But he has forbidden us to from doing that "do not have any other god before me"..

So the creators laws are quite simple, let us all up hold them, we will have a good human experence..it is working for me..and i am enjoying it..

None of the four godpels are eye witness account. So nobody knows any thing about him if at all he even existed. There are strong reasons he did not..

So you are following what people who never met him or met anybody that met him...if this is not a long short, i dont know what is..
