Gurus in the house, pls My 100ah AGM battery makes a hissing or boiling sound when ever d voltage reaches 14.2 during charging....what can b d problem. Am using 250 watts single panel with pwn charge controller. this also happens when charging with a 20amp suoer battery charger .....

Hi, I plan on installing a 2kva solar system in my apartment, could someone help me with an estimated cost to get this done?

Also, does one power his apartment only on the batteries, or can the apartment be powered directly, that is there's power in the apartment while the battery keeps charging?

I hope the battery is not being overcharged. Does this occur throughout the charging process?

Possibly, it is most likely taking in more than 10A

Start by telling the house what is in your apartment.

18 energy saving bulbs in total ( their ratings are unknown)
My laptop rated 150w
A 32inch tv ( plan on getting a 55-60' later on)
Sound system (total max power 300w)
A standing cooler rated 65w
Refrigerator/freezer rated input 100w

That's all I have for now.

There's a future plan of getting a 1.5hp air conditioner and a 1hp air conditioner (I don't think I want to load that on the system tho, but maybe with the energy saving types they make now) and a front load washing machine.

Thanks.

Hello ,
- Approx 1500 cycle on 30% DOD , 1300 cycle on 50
- It's an improved technology to the older lead acid , comes with thicker plates and accepts faster charging as entailed in snapshot below
- Yes distilled water which I also have available at affordable price !
This battery would also need the periodic equalization right?

What's the rating of each energy saving bulb? Add that detail too to your post.

A 63A breaker is rated to carry 63A indefinitely - it may or may not trip at 70A.

The breaker response to current depends on the current response curve rating - Type A, B, C, D e.t.c Most of the breakers I see locally are C-Curve.

If you have a very rapid rise in amps over and above the rated current (such as a short circuit) then a breaker is likely to trip quickly. A slow and steady ramp up may not cause a trip.

See screenshots below for the various ratings and working tolerances.

This is one of the reasons why there is a market for those electronic voltage and current protection devices you sell since they have a much more precise response. I have yet to see a DC version though.

Good info.

If you can closely match the open circuit voltage (VOC) of the 250/300w panel then you are good. Though you may lose some power due to mismatch, but your overall yield will be much better than running only the five 150watts.

So in practice, most VoC range of 150w is from 18v to 20v and that of 250w is from 36v to 40v. So if you connect two 150w in series and parallel it with the other two, you will have one left unconnected. You may need one more 150w to balance up the VoC then you can parallel with a 250w or 300w. The power loss then will be minimal. Still better than running only the five 150 watts cool

Or to avoid the headache, just buy more 150w or sell off the 150w and go full 300w or 250w.

Nice...

They ain't located on same side. One is west while one is east but roof structure is virtually flat

I believe you were not able to use rails to mount your panels due to the asbestos roof right? But how were you able to hold them in place?

Yes Sir but electrolyte gasing losses are minimal since recommended equalisation charge voltage isn't even upto 14.9vdc .. Cheer's

You obviously are charging it beyond manufacturers charge voltage recommendation.
Is the agm battery quanta?... Its the make that easily comes to mind cos it has the lowest charge voltages i have seen.

Simply check the float and absorb sertings as written on your battery and set your charge controller and inverter accordingly

So sorry boss, I missed it reading and typing from my phone. I actually read the thread backwards from the last post so my Nairaland time may run out before I see all posts.

The sheer madness!!! I don’t even want to get started. I have just accepted the sad reality that it takes me n every other willing individual to start off the change we want to see n we must do so in a timely fashion (especially in matters concerning basic human needs) else we will keep having people die from easily preventable causes while waiting on our govt to get their act together.

This is not realistic on ur budget and estimated load, except u're going solar and ur batter bank will be quite an investment.....

The capacity of the inverter is not the issue, the main issue here is the capacity of his battery bank for someone wanting 24hrs power
