DexterousOne: Many of the investors in those schemes are not educated. They are typically financially illiterate folks that just want to double their money and do not know how investments work. They hear their neighbors doubling their money and they run to join. Hard to sensitize folks like that. They won’t even believe you have their interest at heart. 4 Likes |

ukay2: I concur Anyone who buys Zenithbank at current prices is SURE to get a 9-10% dividend return in April (and as side bonus, some capital appreciation too ) However Zenith may drop in Jan/Feb (not so likely; but it is possible, hence anyone buying then may get a higher dividend yield then) But a 9-10% return in less than 6 months is not such a bad idea if you ask me 1 Like 1 Share |

Lazyyouth4u: They should have banned the advertisement of such offers. Just like the Victoria Island based corn farmer who promised investors 40% in 3 months. I am sorry for the hasty generalisations, but when I saw the farmer in tattoo, Jerry curled hair and ear ring, I knew that was a one chance 2 Likes |

ukay2: Yes they can. But they will make big time losses on this bond as it will be sold at a discount when rates go up. |

Lazyyouth4u: It depends on many factors....the bonds maybe selling at premium price then...the economic variables in this Emefiele time.....na case studies even in Harvard Business School self... Investors that bought long term FGN Bonds are in good profits now despite getting good coupon yields at discount prices |

ukay2:I hope Emefiele keeps the status quo like this (for my own selfish reason anyways, not really that what he is doing is 100% right) Because once T Bills rate and other rates inch up again Asset prices in our equities market will collapse Now I cant say the extent of the collapse But guaranteed it wont bode well for equities Nigeria don take style enter the same trap America don enter 1 Like |

Re: Treasury Bills In Nigeria by Nobody: 7:59pm On Dec 15, 2020 |
ukay2: Sir, when rates increase, nobody wants a bond with low coupons. They always sell at a discount. That’s why it’s always good to have an idea of where rates may be heading (if possible) before locking up money in bonds. When rates fall like what is happening now, the old bonds with higher coupons become more valuable. That is why bonds issued before the rate crash are selling at a premium now. 1 Like |

ukay2:Like you said Never say never I mean if accessbank is still dragging legs like this despite all the prospects Then indeed anything can happen If Zenith just slips into 19.95, fishermen will cast their net en masse And before you know it Its back to N21 Those fishermen (you inclusive lol) are many and are waiting That said Sometimes this our market mind boggles me (if that English is correct) How can a company like Zenith have a P/E ratio of less than 4? Despite everything If Zenith were to be listed in NYSE, I'm sure it will be selling for N60+ if not more based on the fundamentals and prospects It's my thoughts sha |
Re: Treasury Bills In Nigeria by ukay2: 8:03pm On Dec 15, 2020 |
DexterousOne: I haven't seen much effect of low NTB rates in NSE..... Most stocks in NSE are still undervalued. I think if the low fixed income rates remain low, stock prices may peak more next year.....as more fixed income investors will start paying attention to NSE. Also, Pension Fund Managers will prefer to go into dividend paying stocks that are still having at least 10% dividend yield. Am not seeing further naira devaluation till 2023, so more FPIs may come into NSE and japaa before 2023 election. |
