Beware ,igbo Culture Don't Accept Traditional Marriage Outside Igbo Land by SGANIVA(m): 2:15pm On Dec 14, 2020 |
am from awgu enugu state Nigeria .in our tradition and culture, as an elderly well experience man . marriage in Igbo land is between two communities (your family, umuada, umunna, and the youth )in as such ,a family don't have full authority to give out there daughters hand in marriage without following the full tradition.every traditional marriage of an Igbo lady is done at her ancestral home (village) and not in township or cities . if you fail to do so ,there is heavy consequences , 1.you risk loosing your children to the girl's family ,in case of separation because your marriage is not recognized 2.you as a woman is barred from participating in any thing , traditionally organized and can't be accepted in umuada because you are not legally married traditionally. 3.in case of death , your uncle's , kindred and umunna may decide to punish the self acclaimed in-law if death occurs between both parties . before you buried the dead you will do all the traditional rite double accordingly . 4.igbo traditional marriage is well design to protect the girl child and marriage institution , in some cases making it difficult to divorce . 5. burial of a married woman in Igbo land can be complicating some times , there are requirements some times, how will you explain to the people you are there in-law . Igbo traditional marriage is very organized follow due process or have your self to blaim . a man looses his five children to a girl's family after ten years of township marriage , because of domestic violent , the case is still on from nkanu enugu state |

SGANIVA: You sound like a niggah who will make up numbers just to prove a point Dafuq did you come up with that number- 80% of all igbos? Every other thing in the article seems to be in order. We currently have a case at hand. The man is deceased. Had kids from both wives including male kids but he became separated from the first wife.. and they also returned her palmwine and dowry. He now got himself a 2nd wife and identified traditionally with the 2nd wife people (did introduction).. before he died. Now the first wives children are doing everything possible to secure his ancestral Villa and properties. But his (the deceased man) kinsmen don't recognize the first wife.. They're insisting that she can't have a place in his inheritance.. except her children remarries her into the kindred. That's some ducked up shii. PS: Even if you no get money for white wedding try and do introduction with your kinsmen and in-laws ohh! E get why |

people typing things are changing,is not totally true,if you didnt married your wife according to tradition ,your wife can't inherite your properties if the man dies, unless your husband have a will, even with will, you have to battle your husband brothers.ask many igbo widows what the are passing through.always ask your husband to be to use due process |

you can marry an igbo girl as a northerner ,depends on the family ,religion, town and money .most towns in anambra, enugu ,abia dont accept outsiders .though if you are rich and famous you can marry from anywhere, but you must be a christian to smooth your journey. Quality20: |

Tradition is strickly guiding their marriage rites expensively, but how is that same tradition not guiding the way Igbo girls share their grace to the world, at cheaper rate? |

All these bush boys powered by Tecno phones and free data just talk nonsense. Igbos do traditional marriages every weekend outside Alaigbo. If them born you and your elders well, come scatter am. |

Womanizer: Even when they don't make sense? Deprive people of basic human rights? Worse still, so-called well cultured Africans are the poorest set of people in the world. If you really want African cultures to be respected, tell them to become rich like the Asians and then, most people will not see anything wrong with the culture. If African countries were to be rich, some of her cultural practices will be revered in other countries. However, no one wants to associate with a culture of poor people. Question is: if their culture practices are good, how come they are poor? After all, culture is a way of life. 1 Like |

What OP wrote might be wrong or right but if it is the latter, anyone who is well-to-do (P-Square comes to mind) can do the opposite and nothing will happen. Besides, it makes sense that the traditional wedding be held where the vast majority of attendees are residing to reduce costs and avoid security/logistical issues esp in an unsafe country like Nigeria. So because tradition demands that trad wedding be held in the bride's place, majority who are to attend will have to travel long distances just to fulfil these traditions even with attendant risks? Have you seen why some cultural practices are nonsensical and poverty inducing? |

i dont think a man who have lived and worked in four different countries, done businesses in three major commercial cities of nigeria is a bush man .a man who cant afford ordinary traditional rite of his people ,stock some where in lagos should be the bush man either.oga if a married man dies now in igbo land without doing normal traditional rite of his wife according to traditional ,the wife may loose all his husband properties ,including land to his husband brothers or uncles expecially if his children is still young .please ask any widow around you and you will understand better Whiteshield: |
