Could it be the shorter holding period that makes MMF more attractive for retail guys?

But sir, these YTD and 2019 returns for the FI fund are crazy o shocked. This is the highest in the market by far. How are they able to do it? Isn’t it the same FGN bonds that other FI funds that are yielding 5 to 8% are invested in?

By the time you take away the expense ratio of around 1.5% for MMF, won’t the investors be better off just investing directly in Tbills? grin

Money Market fund is currently better than Treasury Bills, the fund managers Invest in money market instruments like Treasury Bills, Commercial Papers, Fixed deposits and call deposits. If you have up to N100 million and above you can still negotiate 6% and above for your fixed deposit and call deposits, average yield for Commercial papers is still more than 4%

Okay. But those returns are gross returns. Take away like 1.5% for expenses, and the MMF returns will start looking like what you will get if you just kukuma did CP or T bills directly grin

But I was talking about the Fixed Income fund. It looks very interesting. How are they able to make such returns?

Fund managers have tens and hundreds of billions of Naira, so they can get such rates. I gave reasons why they are currently better than Treasury Bills

But other FI funds are also invested in the same FGN bonds and their returns are currently around 6 to 8%. The yields I’m seeing there for FI fund are over 20%. Anyway, I was just wondering aloud.

Good evening people.
Following the FEC resolution to open land borders, what are the likely implications on the forex, food inflation and the economy in the coming weeks?

Smart investors are cashing out, some bonds bought at N100 are now selling for N150. Very possible the fund managers sold some and invested in fixed deposit.

The balanced fund is also not doing badly, they invest in equities, money market and fixed income
Re: Treasury Bills In Nigeria by emmanuelewumi(m): 6:10pm On Dec 16, 2020
A bond of N100 that was supposed to pay you a coupon of N15, if it now sells at N150 in the secondary market and still pay N15. The investment is still better than Treasury Bills
