It was the end of the semester we were to wait behind for our clearance before NYSC, there I was with my 8k transport, after spending 2k from my transport on consumable vanities.
The clearance was taking long, my food stock was running short. I was later stranded with only groundnut oil beans and some two sticks of match sticks. Chinedu had told me already that transport fare from owerri to Lagos is 8500 I shock. So I strike the first stick, it went off before it could make an inferno with my cylindrical gas burner. I looked up facing my ceiling as if there is a big eye watching " Abeg God make it light". Wooooosh the last stick of match did the job I boil my beans, when it was done I fried it with groundnut oil and salt. I looked for garri, no single grain. All my Neighbors were long gone saving one foolish boy George who dey always come beg.
I saw my some cold water starch about 2 or 3 I boil water make it and add small sugar. Believe me this starch for washing cloth looked like low budget tapioka. I sat down to bless the abomination I took the first spoon of beans, I squeezed my face like those squeezed cloths in the dirty laundry; I knew I fvcked up at least I still got my starch, I took the first spoon, only God knew I couldn't push that nonsense down my throat.
My inner voice whispered so you have chosen death. I packed my bags went straight to the park asked for how much be T- fare them talk 9k one sienna man come talk 5k, I shock. I look him face well if maybe an potential ritualist, I enter I ordered fried rice with jollof mixing and salad and top it up with fish and later washed it down with fearless.
